Ride For the Kids

Ride for the Kids

The Xplorer Riders Club went on an inspiring outreach project for the needy kids in the community. This is their story.

In one of the Regular Board meetings of the XRC (Explorer Riders Club), the Board came up with the idea of breaking the traditional “fun-rides”.

The Board decided to do something for the less fortunate children, one Board Member reasoned out…”We usually spend P300.00 to P500.00 when we ride or just hang-out… and we indeed we have a lot of fun but in the end, it’s just us… same old faces… laughing and enjoying the moment. Wouldn’t it be better if we bring the laughter and joy to those who have little of it?”

With that, a plan for an out-reach project was hatched… since children are the most owe-struck and excited when they get to see bikes rolling… why not spend time with the orphans?

It all began there… the Asociacion de Damas de Filipinas since it’s the oldest yet less noticed settlement house in the country. The only time the orphanage got media exposure was when it was burned to the ground.

Members gave their share and the Club was able to raise enough money for food to cater 100 people and a few school supplies. With the help and cooperation of the members, the club was able to pull-off the activity.

The society often perceive riders as the “leather clad, speed buff, trouble maker, menace of the road’ guys on death machines. Who can blame them when it has always been presented and movies like that and worse, when in-fact some of our brothers-in-wheels act out the role. But then again… where can we start to make a difference? Like a song line… “I’m starting with the man in the mirror…” we have to start with ourselves.

With this ride… we proved one thing… “Nothing is more precious than the joy in the eyes of the children.”

On a personal note… I guess there is no place that I can ride to that can match or even come close to giving me the same high as I had with those children.

Hataw! Mas masarap pa sa full throttle on an empty, twisty road! Your activity should be emulated by the clubs all around the country–or even by individuals in their own little way. MABUHAY KAYO! Good job. Ride safe always. Let me just say if you guys decide to all run for president, you get my vote!
