THE highly-successful Camel Supercross International Championship Series 2006 resumes its island-hopping sorties when it visits Ormoc, City, one of the premier destinations in the Eastern Visayas, on Nov. 12. Venue of the event is the Ormoc City Sports Complex.
No less than Ormoc City Mayor Eric Codilla is expected to personally welcome the participants and guests in this prestigious supercross competition sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) and organized by Xtreme Worx Phils.
This marks the first time in almost 10 years that Camel and NAMSSA are bringing international supercross races to Ormoc, giving residents in this northwestern part of the Leyte island the rare opportunity to watch world-class racing. Never inthe history of two wheels motorsports races that the National Sporting organziation thru NAMSSA has organized 6 international Suepercross events in the country, showing hte advance state of NAMSSA with regards to international competitions.
The Ormoc race will also serve as the second leg of the three-part Camel Supercross International Championship Series. The event formally kicked off with the first leg in Bacolod City last Oct. 1.
The third and final leg will be held in Iloilo City on Nov. 25-26 at the Sta Barbara Intl Raceway..
The Camel MotoGear Promo Tour, which started in Bacolod last month, will also continue for fans from Visayas. Entries from Bacolod, Ormoc and Iloilo will be drawn on the same dtae and place in Iloilo. Teh grand prize shall be a 2006 BMW 650cc enduro and lots more of supercross prices.
“We’re looking forward to holding the first-ever Camel Supercross series in Ormoc after several years of absence,” said Edward A. Cruz, brand marketing manager of JT International Phils.
Cruz said the region’s leading supercross riders, led by Bacolod leg champion Glenn Aguilar of the Philippines ( 2004 FIM Asian SX Champ ) and James Robinson of New Zealand ( 2005 FIM Asian SX Champ ), are expected to come in full force to Ormoc City and display their superb riding skills.
Robinson failed to compete in the Bacood leg due to a knee injury he sustained a few days before the race proper, leaving Aguilar and the fast-rising Kenneth San Andres to battle it out for top honors.
