Aguilar Sweeps NAMSSA Camel International Supercross

Multit-titled Glenn Aguilar whipped up his own storm in the Visayas, ruling the Talisay leg of the 2006 Camel Supercross International Championshop Series before a rain-soaked but wildly-cheering crowd at the Talisay Stadium here Sunday.
Nicknamed “The Flying A”, Aguilar came up with a performance as devastating and as one-sided as super typhoon Milenyo which wrought havoc in Luzon recently, sweeping both the pro open and pro 125 categories in the three-part series sponsored by Camel Filters and organzied by Extreme Worx Philippines sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA).
Not even a late afternoon rain which turned the long and demanding racetrack into a sea of mud prevented Aguilar from putting up another spectacular show, prompting long-time motocross observers to install the former basketball player from Las Pinas as the overwhelming favorite in the next two legs in Ormoc City on Nov. 12 and Iloilo City on Nov. 26.
Overall, Aguilar has a perfect score of 50 points under the 25-20-18-16-15 scoring system.
Only Kenneth San Andres, dubbed as the heir-apparent to Aguilar, managed to put up a strong challenge in both the pro open and pro 125 categories.
A sophomore student at Manila Central University, San Andres stayed with Aguilar for most part of the race and actually kept the crowd to its feet with his own gravity-defying moves in the whoops, double and triple jumps.
“I’m satisfied with my performance this weekend, even though Kenneth gave me some anxious moments in the racetrack with his daring moves,” said Aguilar, the FIM-Asian supercross champion in 2003.
In fact, both Aguilar and San Andres were literally mobbed in this motocross-crazy Negros Occidental city, located some 3.5 kilometers away from Bacolod City.
The absence of perennial rivals James Robinson of New Zealand, who was sidelined by a knee injury in Malaysia a few days before the race, and multi-titled Jovie Saulog, who failed to arirve, only made things a lot easier for Aguilar and San Andres.
Robinson, who remains hugely popular in this motocross-crazy Visayan city, saw action in the pro 125 race despite the injury, but later begged off due to severe pain on his leg with 17 stiches.
Another foreign participant, Frank Rios of Guam, competed but ruled himself out of contention following a career-threatening spill near the table top.
Rios was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention and analized to have 3 -5 broken ribs and is now recovering good in hospital, after he nose dived in a finsh line 30 meter triple jump.
For the Saturday pre finals event of the NAMSSA Philippine National Supercross Series “Future Young Stars” event for the 50cc class it was Maclean Aguilar, for the 50cc B class was TJ Alberto, Jacob Orbe & Maclean Aguilar, for the 65cc class it was Jercik Mitra, Patrick Orbe & Joey Aicardo and for the85cc Junior Championships were Jensen Mauel, Jeven Lagrado & Jerick Mitra.
JT International Phils. brand marketing manager Edward Cruz and Jonapril Lim of Fortune Tobacco awarded the trophies and cash prizes to the winners, assisted by NAMSSA president Ken Falco, vice president Arthur Valdez and Asian Motocross & Enduro Commission President Macky Carapiet.
