THE BIG UNDERBONE ROAD RACE SERIES UNFOLDS SEPT. 17 AT BRC
Promising underbone road race riders will now have their chance to shine in the forthcoming three-leg 2006 Philippine Underbone King Championship Series kicking off on September 17 at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
The competition, sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA), is open to all riders with Philippine homologated 4-stroke underbone motorcycles locally available under homologation rules.
Participants may either join the 150cc. Open class for with the maximum displacement of 150cc and the 110cc Underbone Superstock using 110 underbone stock models available in the Philippines.
These riders must secure NAMSSA competition licenses to race as they will battle each other in a mass start road race format in this series.
They must meet the minimum weight requirement of man & machine post event at 145kgs. Underweight riders are suppose to bolt on lead weights on their machines in order to pass post event technical scrutineering. Fuel must be unleaded and locally available at retail outlets, as fuel tests shall be done.
“This will be the grass roots talent search that will serve as the spawning ground of motorcycle racing in the country. This is the cheapest form of road racing and there are a lot of talented underbone riders who are raring to get into action and be discovered, and eventually elevate them to the international scene,†said UAM Asian Motorcycle Union, Vice President & NAMSSA Managing Director Stephan ‘Macky’ Carapiet.
“Eventually, the best of these riders will move on to superbikes, thus ensuring the transition of talents as provided for by the thrust of NAMSSA, together with the Naitonal Superbike races these underbone models will se a total of around 90 motorycle road racers in these classes which shows the growing popularity of motorycle sports in relation to the fuel economies here and abroad †he added.
Practice and qualifying time trials will be held on Saturday to determine their grids in the two races to be held on Sunday, right after the riders briefing to be conducted by race officials at exactly 9 a.m. right after the warm-up period.
The other two legs are slated on October 15 and on November 5 for the championship round.
Leg winners in the 150 c.c class shall receive a cash prize of P15,000.00 and trophy with the runner-up getting P10,000.00. The third, fourth and fifth placers will also receive P5,000.00, P3,000.00 and P2,000.00 respectively.
Leg winners in the 110cc Underbone Superstock will also receive P6,000 while the runner-up and third placer get P4,000 and P2,000 respectively.
The rider with the highest accumulated points in the series will be declared overall series champion.
