MCPF and MAP form alliance with SOFI

July

On July 6, 2005 the Motorcycle Advocates of the Philippines (MAP), represented by Richard Santiago, and Motorcycle Philippines Federation (MCPF) Directors Jake Swann and Jojo Medina met with Safety Organization of the Philippines Inc.(SOFI) president Eros G. Zuniga and Mandaluyong vice mayor Atty. Jesse Cruz, president of the Vice Mayor League of the Phils to form an alliance between the 3 parties. Discussion centered around Motorcycle Safety and Riders rights. SOFI is consulted by government agencies before they act on certain laws and regulations especially pertaining to traffic. Vice Mayor Cruz on the other hand pledged support to MAP and MCPF to protect rider rights especially at municipal and city level, like the backride and fullface helmet issues. Vice mayors who lead the city councils can now monitor ordinances being proposed by the councilors in their respective towns and cities and can call on MAP & MCPF for consultation before filing a bill that is motorcycle related.
This is a major breakthrough for the country’s biggest motorcycle federation which has been busy lately fighting rider rights at the city and national level. Other issues talked about were the Freeways Ban and possibly forming a Party List for the group in the next election. Vice Mayor Jesse Cruz is also an ex LTFRB chairman (land transportation and franchise regulatory board) so he has detailed knowledge of traffice the rules and regulations.
