Castrol-Scooterista Magazine Scoot & Cycle Festival
08
July
There weren’t any roaring engines and burn-outs, but it was one bike fest that made a lot of noise for the motorcycling community.
The Castrol-Scooterista Magazine Scoot & Cycle Festival held from July 8 to 10 at the Festival Supermall was the first project of its kind by Scooterista Magazine and main sponsor, Castrol Philippines. The three-day affair brought together most of the country’s top motorcycle, scooter and riding accessory manufacturers and distributors.
Opened by Muntinlupa Representative Rufino Biazon and City Councilor Rene Cayetano, the show featured exhibits by a “who’s who” in the local motorcycling industry: Kawasaki, Yamaha, Kymco, SYM, Motorstar, Toro Motors Corporation (Zong Shen Motorcycles), Motozentrum Philippines (PGO scooters) and Smart e-Bikes, all of whom put their latest models on display for riders and enthusiasts to check out.
The Motoworld booth also managed to draw a lot of attention thanks to the latest riding gear from Zeus Helmets, RS Taichi, Komine, Spidi, Sinisalo, Oxford and Accu Gard. Fuji YKL was on hand to showcase its latest compact digital cameras and offer visitors personalized souvenir photos, especially on the pocket bikes put on display by GP Racing from Cavite. The Fury Eyewear was also a favorite among visitors, showcasing affordable eyewear from Italy and a product demo that had their sales team jumping on the lenses of their eyewear to prove their indestructibility.
The Motorcycle Philippines Federation (MCPF) were there with promotional items for sale and to promote Ride-To-Work Day, a worldwide call for riders to use their motorcycles or scooters on July 20, 2005. This annual project is intended to promote motorcycling as a viable mode of transport that reduces congestion, pollution and gas consumption and to raise awareness for riders’ rights.
The bikefest also served as the venue for the unveiling of the winner of the Castrol Scooterista Sagad Da Scoot Contest, an MMS-based promo in cooperation with Solar Interactive. The winner, Mr. Norman Nicanor from Sta. Ana, put his Kymco Grand Dink on display in its “before” state. This touring scooter will be given a total makeover care of Dupont Paints, Continental Tires and Castrol. Watch for the outcome in future issues of Scooterista Magazine.
Of course, a bikers’ get together wouldn’t be complete without music so The Bloomfields got everyone going to their 60’s and 70’s rock and roll classics.
On the last day of the show, the winners of the Bike Showdown were revealed in a brief program hosted by Paolo Abrera. Marnie Corpus won Best Underbone for his “monstrous” Biomechanical Honda XRM. It was a truly unique entry that caught the judges’ eyes. Marc Abiola won Best Big Bike for his Yamaha Tour de Luxe 1300cc cruiser. The Best Scooter award was won by Mark Ampon, who fielded a DVD-equipped SYM Jet 100. It was hard to believe this was a scooter that he uses everyday!
