2007 BOSS Iron Man Challenge!

Manila - Tuguegarao - Pagudpud - Laoag - Baguio - Clark
1,200 Kms In 24 Hours

20 Riders, including 4 AMDG Motorcycle Club guest riders were flagged off in 1 minute intervals, starting at 4am, Jan 6, at Shell Diwal (EDSA, before Balintawak).

Objective was to go through the prescribed route with checkpoints at Tuguegarao, Pasuquin (Ilocos Norte), Baguio and finally at Clark Pampanga. All were to exit Sta. Rita from the NLEX and no EC-Tags and Sirens were not allowed. Aside from the mandatory checkpoints, route to Baguio was Up via Naguillan Road and Down via Kennon.

Pictures were taken at takeoff, checkpoints and the final stop in Clark. (I will post them as soon as we get them all).

Was it difficult?

My experience is...yes. My body is still sore and my masahista gave up on me already. Kidding aside, the last few hundred kilometers were the most difficult, with fatigue and lack of sleep seeping in. I have never ridden up Naguillan before and we had to do it at night at that. Going down was pleasant though at 11pm. Stopping at Clark, getting off my bike and lying down on the asphalt in the parking lot was one of the best feelings I've had.

I did have a minor spill on a wet gravel laden detour for a bridge under repair somewhere in Ballesteros, Cagayan. Guess I should've slowed down.

Joey Almeda on a brand new R1200GS Adventure checked in first at 16 hours (wow) followed by BOSS Pres Francis Rivera and get this....Nilo Pascoguin on a Yamaha R6 in third (yes an R6).

There was a huge gathering in Clark when other BOSS and AMDG riders rode up for a celebration on Sunday morning. Brunch was served to over 40 bikers in Mexico, Pampanga at fellow BOSS member Noel Lucup's residence.

Why do we do it? Your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks.

Attached are the Iron Man Challenge Results.

Checkpoint 2

Checkpoint 2 is in "Sexy Beach Resort" in Pasuqin, Ilocos Norte.

Unfortunately, um..a.. the digital cameras there all broke down, thus no pictures from Checkpoint 2.

Hey there Beerboy!

Wow very nice pics of the ride and the gang! Woohoo!

Great and memorable ride buddy, one for the books indeed, whew!

Just to contribute a few more details of this incredible ride, here's AMDG's ride report courtesy of NiloV taken from the AMDG Thread at the other site, enjoy! :

>>>>Thank you all for your support, without which we may not have made it through.

This IRON MAN Adventure Ride was organized by BOSS mc and their preparation for the safety of the riders is commendable, from the manned checkpoints, backup vehicles and route selections. BOSS Riders were on hand to give us pointers on road conditions and expected times of arrivals to the next checkpoints. They even provided for food and drinks to the weary riders along the way. Salamat very much.

The ride began almost 7 days prior to the event. Ride Commander, AMDG Toti, took the team through the route by providing us with maps, distances, expected time of arrivals in pitstops and times for rests. On the day of the ride, he even provided for some early snacks for the team to get to the next pitstop. With this knowledge of distance, speed , time and rests, it provided a mental picture that made us both mentaly and physicaly ready for the adventure.

AMDG Team Adventure meet up at Shell Balintawak at 3.00AM.
Being the first to arrive, We were to be the first to leave at 4.00AM. After which, the following riders would be flagged off every minute. While waiting for Take Off, we were encouraged by the show of support of fellow AMDG Riders; Jimmy (a.k.a. Jim 3553), Boo, Juanits, Gerry, Rvents, and Reybetsy. Thank you guys for being there that early. There were 20 participants in all;
5 official AMDG Riders and 1 AMDG/BOSS rider, Philip Sison.

4.00AM / Saturday - AMDG Team Adventure headed for the NLEX. After paying for the toll, I was left by my self to catch up with the rest at Sta. Rita where we regrouped. As early as this, we were overtaken already by at least 4 BOSS riders.
As we exited the NLEX, The group was divided to two. AMDG Toti and Toto took a much faster pace with the BOSS Riders while we took the sightseeing pace with Binggoy (a.k.a. Bashful) and Ysh. The road from Sta Rita was uneven and a lot of road constuction was going on along the way. We were averaging only 60-80kph all the way to Cabanatuan. Somewhere in San Miguel Bulacan, we were overtaken by the rest of the pack.
The road and traffic conditions got much much better upon reaching Talavera and we picked up to 80-100kph.

6.30AM - Reached our first gas stop in San Jose, Nueva Ecija. Toti and Toto, Aka the 2T's were there 30 mins ahead of us and went ahead. After a 10 minute stop, we took the twisties of Dalton pass. We were greeted with a rainbow as we entered the mountain. Half way up, rain started to fall and slowed the pace down. Aside from the wet conditions, the road was great and asphalted all the way. Almost 200km of twisties all the way to Santiago City, Isabela.

9.00AM - Santiago City, Isabela where we took 30minute breakfast at a Jollibee. After gassing up, we took to the road to Tuguegarao but had to pass Ilagan. The route was scenic, the pace was at 100-120kph. We were not adviced to use the faster route via enrile due to safety concerns.

12.30PM - Tuguegarao. Checkpoint one. Another 30 minute gas and rest stop. Then it was off to Ilocos Norte. This part of the country is wonderful. the roads, the scenery, the everything... perfect riding condition. th pace was at 120-140kph.

4.30PM - Pausquin, Ilocos Norte. Checkpoint two. we were greeted and escorted by the Pegasus mc to Sexy beach Resort were sexy ladies in short skirts served us lunch. Hard to leave right away so we took an hour long break and a short power nap.

5.30PM - Took off for Baguio. Road conditions was good but because of the darkness, we paced oursevles at 80-100kph. Took short gas and rest stops in laoag, Vigan and San Fernando, La Union. We almost lost hope at this point that we were not going to do it in 24 hours. But we pick ourselves up and forged on. we reached Bauang, La Union at 9.30PM and our spirits got another boost. Hitting Naguilian, we were inspired by the statue of the Virgin Mary and as we passed her, the moon came out. Riding up was difficult and was doing it by instinct. The headlightr were not able to light the curves and had to feel your way through them.

10.30PM - Baguio and checkpoint three. The cold weather recharged us and the warm welcome gave us strength. We were able to catch up with AMDG Philip at the Gas station and also saw AMDG/Wackie Aries. After an hour of chatting and
joking around off we went take the last leg.

11.30PM - We took this leg on a much slower pace, 60-80kph. We did not want to rush and make stupid mistakes by misjudging our selves, We took three stops, At the bottom of Kennon, Gerona and Tarlac. We knew we were going to finish it before the 24th hour so we did not want to take any chances.

2.30AM / Sunday - Finish. After 22 1/2 hours on the road, AMDG Team Adventure is now AMDG Team IRON EAGLE <<<<<
