Question How do you clean/wash/maintain your leathers?

Mga Sir's,

Hi there! Would just like to ask regarding maintainance of leathers... I use leather jacket when riding from my residence at Ortigas up to my office at MIA. The thing is I would like to inquire about how you Sir's have your leathers cleaned? Is there a special spray or do u just have it washed?

Please do post your inputs as it will really help. Thanks po sa lahat in advance!!!

I don't use leathers. But I think you have to get it dry-cleaned.

I think you can also wash it with soap... and put some DOWNY to para sarap amuyin... wag mo nga lang ibilad sa araw baka masira yung leather.. Burnout is right you can also bring it to dry cleaned

I've had a really nice leather jacket since the early 90s. Stored in in a plastic bag (big no no no. Leather needs to breath) so it ended up with the foulest of mildew odors.

Tried many things - dry cleaning, soaking in whatever - and finally discovered that a bit of vinegar (and even a lemon) solves the problem.

Step 1 = wash off all dirt/grime with water and more water
Step 2 = soak overnight in a mixture of 1/2 cup vinegar (cane) or lemon and about 3 gallons of water
Step 3 = rinse off with lots of water
Step 4 = soak for about 1 hour in a solution of soft soap (not detergent - this will strip your leather's natural oils)
Step 5 = rinse off then air dry (not in the sun)

Unfortunately, the mildew does come back after a month or two but not as bad anymore. I am still looking for leather protection (maybe 3M at the DIY shops?).

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Sir's!!!:)

Sir Burnout, Thanks and will probably visit the malls this weekend to check for dry-cleaning shops...

Sir Bojok, 'Nde kaya ma-damage ng downy yung leather? Best na siguro yun dry-cleaned kaya lang kailangan i-budget

Sir Wujae, Thanks sa very detailed info! Just had it printed and will try it muna sa "other" leather ko (not the one am using) just to test... Thanks ulit

You're welcome dude! And you really don't have to be that polite though I really appreciate it! You can just call me by my nick without the "Sir" thing.
