Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

At a Senate hearing today, Sen. Richard Gordon revealed that he has filed a bill to require plate numbers on helmets as well as color coding of helmets per region.

He said that a large number of assassinations and crimes were perpetrated by motorcycle riders, and that this move would help identify and deter criminals. He said that he had implemented the scheme as mayor of Olongapo city, and that it had "taken a huge bite out of crime."

Asked whether his proposal would violate human rights or constitutional provisions, he said that it won't. "People are already required to wear crash helmets for safety, putting the plate numbers on them won't make much of a difference," he said.

ano tayo blue boys, yellow boys at kung anu ano pang boys?!?

if you are a criminal, would you like to be identified??! senseless proposal..utak biya! laking lugaw!!

Olongapo is city, what we are talking here is the whole country

IT WOULD! crash helmets are different from having a color-coded helmet.

mahirap na maglongride kasi pano pag may ride, need mo pa extra helmet according sa color coding ng pupuntahan mo?? besides, masamang patungan ng paint ang helmet because it would compromise its safety features, IMHO.

Re: Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

Ah cmon! I think Kagawad Richard Gordon was talking about his color coding scheme for Jeepneys will work with motorcycle helmets.

Doesn't he have anything better to propose? If he has done his ample research, he should have known that this proposal has been rejected not only once, but twice already. So we'd have to bring 3 or 4 separate helmets of different colors if we are going to do a North loop. What more if it was cross country?

And how will this affect his WOW Philippines program?

Talk about a misinformed politician.

Re: Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

Maybe they should think where to put their over-sized budget to good use...

Talk about helmet coding...

Gsssshhhh...

What a waste of resources (time for the senate hearing, electricity, water, food etc., etc.)...

this could be true cause back in 2005 me and mayor_bandido went to his office in the senate and talked to him not to pursue his proposal.

he listened to us back then. so I hope that some media guy just dug up an old issue

Re: Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

Re: Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

This only shows to prove that all people in power has maliciously branded all of us on motorcycles as criminals...

Sir Jojo,

I hope that we can work together against this one if it is true...

Points to consider:
Human Rights Violation
Discrimination
Undue branding or profiling

Lets all be aware and be prepared...

@filmore,

You do not correct a wrong thing with another one...

I'm sorry but I stronly oppose your suggestion... You do not support what is wrong by condoning it... Telling people not to wear their helmets does not sound stupid... It is...

Ako ang source. I'm a reporter on the Senate beat at binanggit niya kanina yung bill niya. Will update as soon as I get more information.

If they want plates on our helmets, they should buy the helmets for every rider...

I will not spend money on something that will only be VANDALIZED by somebody else...

Re: Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

Re: Numbers on helmets to be revived in the Senate

"For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you."
-Matthew 7:2 ASV

I don't think this is an old issue. sabi kasi ni TS na "At a Senate hearing today, Sen. Richard Gordon revealed that..."
sana lang misinformation lang ito.

maganda ito. especially during the campaign season, ilista lahat ng mga anti-motorcyclists rights na politicians and openly campaign against them.

maganda pag campaign period. marami silang posters na naka paskil. magdala tayo ng malaking stamp pad. stamp natin ng malaking X tapos may nakasulat na anti-MC rights o kaya Motorcyclist discriminator/oppressor.
puede rin silang bigyan ng ranking. MCPF's most wanted politicians.
