Wink Brand New Kawasaki Fury 125

    Hello everyone at MCP!

I bought a new Kawasaki Fury 125, last May 15th, 2009, for my Birthday (May17).
I rode out same day, and I had some problems... I am not sure if its a Fury problem, or my unit was "defective". I am looking for suggestions, comments if you have experienced the same or if you know how can it be fixed!

On May 15, I went to a Wheeltek dealer, to purchase a Fury 125. I was aware of the New Fury 125R, but they had none in stock!, and would not for a little while. But as my birthday was only a few days away, I settled with the 125.

As one of the employee's asked which unit I'd like, I inspected about 5 different Fury's, and picked one.. he pulled it out and started conditioning it.

After he cleaned everything, added gas, and so on.. it seemed that the bike WOULD NOT START! It took MANY attempts for him to use the Electric Starter (he was constantly pushing it.. I was going to say something.. as I did not want the Starter to go bad.. but I didn't.. as I'm a nice guy!) Finally, the engine turned, and the bike started... he used the Choke on full, the entire time.

The bike still constantly died. Even with the throttle open w/ choke. About 30minutes later, it seemed "ok". After all the paperwork was completed I said thank you, and I drove off the lot.

About half a kilometer down the highway, I was slowing down on the side of the road. Right before I came to a complete stop, the bike stalled and died. It seemed like the bike locked up, I nearly fell off! I thought to myself.. maybe I still need to condition it? So, I started it back up, and started to head home, which was about 20minutes away.

As I come to an intersection, I stopped at a red-light. When the light turned green, I opened the throttle and started to move, then the bike dies! I was so embarrassed... A brand new bike!! Come on!!

I finally got home, I raised the Idle (thinking the idle might have been too low) and it seemed to have fixed the problem.

Now, it was time to break-in my new bike. I was using a break-in method, varying RPMs, which was ok. I rode with 5 of my friends on their bikes, around the city. I started hearing a "Howling" sound from the front of my bike. Even my friends heard it, and we stopped the check it out.

It turned out to be my Front Disc Brake. It was constantly touching the disc, without the use of the Brake. We rode to Wheeltek to check the problem, and the opened the brake caliper and sanded down the brake.. now it seems ok.

I also notice the bike is VERY hard to start, especially in mornings. I usually need to use the choke full, and electric start 3 or 4 times before I can use the bike, along with 5-10minutes of warm up!!!

I still occasionally get my bike stalled, which I knew was NOT normal.. but decided to wait until my 500KM tuneup/oil-change, before I make a formal complaint.

At around 400km (before my tuneup) I noticed small (yet annoying) backfire from my muffler. As I lower from High RPM to LOW, I hear popping sounds, not loud.. but annoying...

I think.. this bike keeps having problems!! So, I continue on.

On my 500KM check-up, the backfire became REALLY bad. I was hearing it constantly as I used the bike. The Wheeltek mechanic test-drive my bike, and noticed it.

After he completed the tuneup, he did another test drive, but the backfire was still loud. He then opened my Carb. and cleaned it, and did some tweaking. He test-drove again, and said it was Ok.

I thanked him for his work, and rode off the lot. The bike seemed to perform a LOT better.. the carburetor must have been dirty? I also noticed the bike started NO PROBLEM using the electric start.

Now, at 1400km... the bike is working PERFECTLY. With some problems on the way of course.. but all-in-all.. good.

A list of problems I had:

    1. Hard to start the bike, even on warm engine. FIXED AFTER 500KM TUNEUP AND CARBURETOR CLEAN UP.
    2. Bike constantly dies or stalls, nearly accidental engine locking. Even on HOT engine.FIXED AFTER 500KM TUNEUP AND CARBURETOR CLEAN UP.
    3. Hard to start on morning warm up, cold engine.FIXED AFTER 500KM TUNEUP AND CARBURETOR CLEAN UP.
    4. Disc brake problem, constantly touching the disc. FIXED BY DEALERSHIP MECHANIC
    5. Backfiring muffler (from a little backfire to a lot)FIXED AFTER 500KM TUNEUP AND CARBURETOR CLEAN UP.
    6. Messy carburetor.FIXED AFTER 500KM TUNEUP AND CARBURETOR CLEAN UP.

About the Fury, my personal Opinions.

    1. I do like the design of the bike.. very nice.. loving the sticker design! The Fury's I see with NO STICKERs, look very ugly.. WHY PEOPLE?!!

    2. I like the placement of the Gas Tank, very good place.. I no longer have to kick anyone off the bike (especially myself) and open the seat to fill gas. I also like the "big" 5.2Ltr!

    3. I like the Monoshock, and the height of the bike.. very nice and unique. I already changed my Monoshock position of 1 to 3, for a stronger effect, as I carry friends and family.

    4. Love the disc brake... I know.. it isn't a new thing.. but I like the stopping power.

    5. Gear shifter.. very nice.. I like the Toe-rocker! The rear brake pedal is unique too.. I like it!

    6. Muffler... cool looking, love the height and contour. I noticed many other Fury's have some rust on the inside-outer edges of the open side.. I use WD-40 to keep it from rusting.. so far so good.

    7. The Headlight.. hmm.. hard to say. I am not too impressed with it. I think there could have been a better design, or atleast more filling to it... but thats just me.

Now for my Ratings.. of course.. personal.

Look and Design of the Bike - 8/10
    Headlight could use more work!

    Overall Performance (what I expected) - 10/10
After I did my tuneup and problem fixes, I give it 10/10... It is more than enough for what I need in a bike, and performs EXTREMELY well.

    Uniqueness - 10/10
This bike totally stands out from all other Philippine bikes on the market. The gas tank and monoshock gives it the awe-inspiring effect on other riders on the road.. and my friends!

    The Feel - 10/10
I love the feel of the bike.. very comfortable ride.. although the seat is a bit firm.. I love the height/angle!

    Compartment Size - 10/10
    Absolutely HUGE! Love it.

Well, thats my write up.. and Review.. I suppose! of the Kawasaki Fury 125.. Thanks for reading, looking forward to comments/replies!

After all the "problems" I give an OVERALL RATING of the KAWASAKI Fury 125, 10/10. Absolutely love the bike...

I also plan on keeping the bike mostly stock... though will put MAG WHEELS on soon. Preferably the "raider150" type. I do not plan to do any changes, but would like some information on how big the tire size is advisable? I'd like to put maybe bigger tires. Does anyone have recommended Sizes and brand?

My Top-speed is 115KPH.. is this "normal" for stock Fury? I heard of going to 120kph+.. true?

its in the owner taste,, for me i remove the stickers bcoz i'm sick of looking the same bike on the road,, so i'm planning to change the paint design to my bike and put decals.i only want to be unique.. it's true the stock sticker is nice but it always depend on the owner of the bike..

Sir TS, congrats sa bike mo, kamusta na puring mo? may naging problema pa ba sir?

I also have a fury, same color as this one.. para maiba naman, ganda rin ng black sakang white, pero para mejo iba naman Blue nalang.. I removed the stickers too.. I did not like it lang, parang pilit yung mga tribal..

Ganda na kpag naka mags, anung klaseng mags po ito and how much kaya?? nainlab nanaman ako sa bike ko, tinatakpan ko na ulit sya ng motorcycle cover after seeing all the kawasaki fury bikes here in MCP

Better to be a racer for a moment, than a spectator for a lifetime so dont hesitate, accelerate and when in doubt.. Gas it!! Braaappt!!!

    @ TS

My Top-speed is 115KPH.. is this "normal" for stock Fury? I heard of going to 120kph+.. true?

yes you can,, my little modification are affordable and i did reach 120+kph
34T rear sprocket - irridium sparkplug - open pipe and all you need is a flat straight road..

    @TS

Marami magawa sa Fury mo lalo na may budget ka.

For me, walang money, improvised lang of some parts ang kaya.

    Here's mine..............
