Lightbulb Bajaj Pulsar Pulsar 220 (Possibly Rouser 220)

Here in the Philippines, the only Bajaj Pulsar available is the 200cc or Rouser 200. But let me introduce this 220cc so that we can see the difference.

The Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi is the latest addition to the Pulsar family of motorcycles from Bajaj Auto. Features differentiating this bike from other members of the DTS-i family include oil cooled, fuel injected engine, front and rear disc braking, tubeless tyres, a digital speedometer console (recently introduced in all other Pulsar editions) and parabolic/ellipsoidal projector headlamps.

Bajaj displayed the 220 DTS-Fi at the Delhi Auto Expo 2006. The Indian nationwide launch happened in July 2007.

    Features and specifications
With this introduction, Bajaj Auto would achieve a close second in the race to offer a microprocessor-based fuel injected motorcycle to Indian customers, after Hero Honda's 125 cc Glamour FI motorcycle.[1][2] The new Pulsar has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, factory-fitted front and rear disc brakes and detailed digital instrumentation. The Pulsar DTS-Fi generates a maximum power of 20 bhp (15 kW) and a maximum torque of 19.12 N·m (14 lb·ft).

    Engine technology
DTS-Fi stands for "Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection", a ‘Bajaj Patented Technology’. In fuel injection the conventional carburettor has been replaced by injector which injects fuel in to the engine in a spray form based on the instructions of the Engine Control Unit (ECU) which is a part of the Engine Management System EMS. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is microprocessor based and is the brain of the fuel injection system. It processes information sent by various sensors and instantly determines optimum fueling and spark timing for various engine operating conditions. The ECU contains detailed information of the engine's characteristics from which it picks the necessary data for commanding both fueling & spark timing.

The main advantages of Fuel Injection are: a. Increased power output for same cc. b. Better low end torque. c. Lower fuel delivery & optimisation of spark timing. d. Improved cold start, quick warm-up and excellent response to sudden acceleration. e. Lower emission levels. f. Self detection and communication of fuel system malfunctioning if any.

Exclamation New Bajaj Pulsar 220 is Really a BIG Deal

New Bajaj Pulsar 220 is really a big deal
    by Shubhabrata Marmar

What is performance motorcycling? Does it really have takers in a commuter-oriented market like ours? Is an indigenously developed and built larger capacity motorcycle possible?

For Indian motorcycle manufacturers, the answer to the first question so far, has been, "Who cares?" and the other two has been, "No way." Which is why the new Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi is a milestone.

The Indian motorcycle enthusiast's lot has been a tortured one. His demands have been swamped and diluted in a swarm of 60 kpl machines and in the entire history of Indian two-wheelers, only six or seven machines are memorable on performance terms. And of them, maybe two are on sale right now.

But with 124 kph showing on the orange-lit LCD speedometer of the new Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi I'm on, I really should be doing other things. Like figuring out how to get the motorcycle to slow down for the uphill left turn that is coming up quickly.

It really isn't a concern, as the brakes are the best I've used. If my visor were dry and my raincoat was still in my kit bag, I'd probably be seeing closer to 135 kph on the speedo right now.

On my umpteenth fast-but-not-pushing-it lap of Bajaj's Chakan plant test-track, I'm impressed with the motorcycle and what it represents. Since the Yamaha RD350 (Yamaha RX100 and Suzuki Shogun lovers please excuse), we haven't had this classy, this fast, this good a performance motorcycle at all.

It takes corners with a delightful, eager poise, is accurate like a surgeon's scalpel and can brake hard with easy confidence. The throttle is superlight and crisp and I can already see all sorts of careless riders using it to scare themselves silly. More importantly, I can see hordes of serious riders grinning in delight.

And why not? Bajaj's design brief for the DTS-Fi was to create a no-compromise machine for the performance motorcycle enthusiast. This, they have achieved.

The motorcycle boasts a highly refined (low noise, no vibes, slick shifts and all) 220cc motor that makes a heady 20 bhp and 1.95 kgm of torque. And it is effortless, free-revving and can roll along at 50 kph in top gear should you feel the need. And return 50 kpl while you are doing that. It's almost like having your cake and eating it too.

I could, at this point, go into a 3,000-word discussion of all the various features this bike sports, some of which have never been seen on Indian motorcycles. But that would be missing the point.

In any case, you will be spending a lot of time in Bajaj's Pro-Biking showrooms listening to the harried sales guy who will be hard-pressed to remember all of them.

The big ones are tubeless tyres (one of the reasons for the great handling feel), 55-watt projector low beam headlamp (even, no-glare illumination), slick digital dash (feature packed and easy to read) and new styling package with distinctive LED taillamps. But the biggest of them all is fuel injection, which has allowed the DTS-Fi to get that linear power curve, crisp feel and instant throttle response.

A bike like the Pulsar DTS-Fi is significant because this is the first nod from a major manufacturer to the Indian performance enthusiast in years.

The Bajaj Pulsar 180 and to some extent the Hero Honda Karizma have been the staples for us, but in one stroke, they're both passe. Here is a motorcycle that's more sorted, faster and more effortless.

And while Bajaj won't say it, the DTS-Fi is not going to be outrageously expensive either. They confirmed a five-digit price tag and our sources are hinting at an on-road price of Rs 92,000 or thereabouts. Yes, fully loaded. Which is outstanding value for money.

In EMI terms, the increment over a Pulsar 180 or a Karizma would be next to nothing. In value terms, it would make a great purchase. Again, Bajaj won't say it, but we believe Diwali or during that festive period, you will be able to walk in and buy the fuel injected Pulsar from any Bajaj Pro-Biking showroom.

With these many features, obvious performance and a smart, high power price tag, the Pulsar 220 could actually change our manufacturers' answers to all the three questions we posed right at the outset.

The motorcycle will be commercially successful, there is no question about it. Obviously, it won't beat the 60 kpl commuter. But then, it doesn't have to. For the enthusiast, it would be the perfect tool to forget about those appliances.

For the manufacturers, especially rivals, it would signal the opening of a new market at the very top of the pecking order. A market all of us enthusiasts are milling about in, but the shelves have been empty so far.

The Pulsar 220 might actually cause competing products to fill the shops. We already know that TVS [Get Quote] is working on an Apache 180. A successful P220 might even prod Hero Honda (or Honda, or both) to upgrade, re-arm or replace the Karizma with something more serious.

It might actually engineer separate market spaces for enthusiast-centric product strategy, which so far, does not exist. For us, it would be the beginning of an era of machines we've been forced to only dream about so far.

There is, of course, another perspective. I personally wish the motorcycle had been a storming 25 bhp 250cc demon. That would have elevated the price tag, but it would have represented a cleaner break with lower displacement machines

    Exclamation Bajaj Pulsar 300cc Speculation

Rumors are that Bajaj seem to be engaged in developing a bigger and sportier version of Bajaj Pulsar 300cc. If ever that’s happening probably it will give the Yamaha a run for its money as Pulsars are dubbed to be bikes with international features coming at Indian prices circles. But all fingers crossed at this point about neither the features nor the price and don’t know when it will hit the roads.

So, as of now the Bajaj engineers seem to enjoy the bike circles talk about their new, yet-to-be-launched newer bike, specifically the high-end Pulsar tweak, the Bajaj Pulsar 300cc. Its talked that Bajaj had Kawasaki give the initial design set up but they are going to develop it indigenously without having any Kawasaki-like looks.

There are also doubts about the front faring and as it’s going to be a 300cc bike that will fit well for racetracks, bike lovers want it to have a sporty looking front. There are some spy photos available and no one knows whether they are photoshop tweaked versions or the concept bike photos of Bajaj Pulsar 300cc. From photos, it does appear that the visor is not given proper attention. It also appears that the bike has a single cylinder and we simply cant wait to know the amount of power a single cylinder bike could deliver. People also expect that the new Bajaj Pulsar 300cc will be having a DTS-Fi engine.

As per the price industry people say that it could be well about the 1 lakh mark. Considering the Indian road conditions its all suspense as to how Bajaj will take mileage into their designing, as because at least we are not so rich to have a tank filled and it gets emptied in a few days’ time while commuting only to office; the 200cc Pulsar is giving just 30-35 kmpl and should this give around 20 kmpl it becomes a white elephant. As to the power it’s still a guessing but one can expect more than 45 bhp.

People from Yamaha and Honda say that Bajaj is not into any making of a Pulsar 300cc or so and it’s just their marketing strategy of hyping about their forthcoming launches, so people talk about the brand and promote it before even the launch has happened.

Bike lovers, especially Pulsar lovers just hope that Bajaj Pulsar 300cc gets due attention with respect to sporty looks, seat saddle, headlamps and also the kick-start option. Not to mention about the 6-speed transmission and gearshift concerns that earlier Pulsars have.

So said, Bajaj Pulsar 300cc can really brighten up the Indian automobile market and Bajaj will take over the competition by 360 degrees. All we can do is open our eyes and wait for the bike to roll down the Indian roads

Arrow Bajaj Pulsar 220cc DTSi Review

Having reviewed Yamaha R15 and Hero Honda Karizma already, I feel I have really delayed writing a review of Bajaj Pulsar 220. These three bikes are one of the best and fastest models available in India today. The bike I reviewed was Blue in color and looked gorgeous just after the water wash.

    Bajaj Pulsar 220

Styling: On the first look of the bike, it looked like a cheetah ready to pounce on me. The head lamp is designed in such a way that it adds a life to the bike. It is nothing short of a face of a robot. Look at the tell tale lights, doesn’t it look like eyes? This is the second bike in India after Karizma which has isolated handle bars (like the real sports bikes). Such bikes position itself as a unique category, a higher status of machines.

The tanks are adopted from the original Pulsar and has a scratch pad near the seat. The tail part is nothing new. It just looks like the other Pulsars and it disappoints me a little bit. Someone looking just the tail wouldn’t be able to differentiate whether it is a Pulsar 220, 200, 180 or 150.

Performance and Handling: The bike has great agility. It has a tendency to ‘jump off’ when you twist the throttle which gives a great adrenaline pump. If you really want to whip the engine to its limits, the Indian city roads will disappoint you.

I own a Karizma, and when I drive the Pulsar 220, I feel as if the bike is light as a feather. There are both pros and cons to this. On my Karizma, I feel more safe and stuck to the road with the heavy solid feeling, but Pulsar 220 seems to be ‘flying’ which is good, but does not give me a safe feeling. The details may be different, but this is what I feel, and you would perhaps feel the same if you test the two bikes. The maximum power is 3 PS more than Karizma, but the top speed is nearly the same - 126 kmph.

Features: No doubt that the Pulsar places itself on par with other high end bikes. The features in the dashboard are nothing short of spectacular. With orange backlit digital console, it displays the speed, fuel level and ODO meter is incorporated below the speedometer. Like the bikes from Honda, Pulsar 220 has single indicator for the signal. The tachometer dial and the digital console perfectly blends with each other.

Verdict: In the test rides, the Pulsar 220 is a little faster than the Karizma, but we have to wait for Karizma Fi, a new version of Karizma that is to be launched soon. Bajaj Pulsar 220 is a great bike overall compared to the other bikes in India, but taking into account the international bikes, its stands no chance against them. Hopefully we can see lot of new technology coming up in Indian bikes in the coming years. If you want a high performance bike, wait a little longer for the new Karizma and then make the decision.

Pros: Pickup, aggressive looks, Pulsar branding

Cons: Not so pleasant engine sound

    Lightbulb What is DTS-i ,DTS-Si and DTS-Fi

    Conventional Engine-

A conventional 4 Stroke engine has a Single Spark Plug located at one end of the combustion chamber and hence the combustion is inefficient leading to sub optimal mileage and sub optimal performance.

    DTS-i Engine -

DIGITAL TWIN SPARK ignition engine has two Spark plugs located at opposite ends of the combustion chamber and hence fast and efficient combustion is obtained. The benefits of this efficient combustion process can be felt in terms of better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

DTS-i Engine can be further tuned to deliver exhilarating performance or exceptional mileage.

    DTS-Si Engine -

Like DTS-i (which is the mother technology) the engine has 2 spark plugs, but, instead of conventionally positioned straight ports, the offset positioning of the ports generate high swirl and turbulence of the air fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. This results in highly efficient combustion that further results in exceptional mileage. Like the mother DTS-i technology, the DTS-Si technology is a patented technology developed by Bajaj Auto R&D.

We are launching our first bike with 125 cc DTS-Si engine and best in class mileage of 109 kmpl in September 07. The mileage and performance of this bike is sure to delight you.

    DTS-Fi-

DTS-Fi stands for "Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection", a ‘Bajaj Patented Technology’. In fuel injection the conventional carburettor has been replaced by injector which injects fuel in to the engine in a spray form based on the instructions of the Engine Control Unit (ECU) which is a part of the Engine Management System EMS. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is microprocessor based and is the brain of the fuel injection system. The ECU contains detailed information of the engine's characteristics from which it picks the necessary data for commanding both fueling & spark timing.

The main advantages of Fuel Injection are:
    a. Increased power output for same cc.
    b. Better low end torque.
    c. Lower fuel delivery & optimisation of spark timing.
    d. Improved cold start, quick warm-up and excellent response to sudden acceleration.
    e. Lower emission levels.
    f. Self detection and communication of fuel system malfunctioning if any.

There are lot of rumours roaming around the Internet regarding the mightier and Sportier version of Bajaj, the Pulsar 300cc. As if the news is true, then Yamaha you have to go to your mom to get some nice ideas to tackle Bajaj, due to its high quality with international standards at an Indian cost. Yes, its sounds crazy, isn’t it. We never knew whether to believe this or not, however at this point of time, no specifications or details known to us.

As far as Bajaj engineers are concerned, there are been some talks going around in the bike circles about their new bike which is yet-to-be-launched. A bike with high power, it is the Bajaj Pulsar 300cc. As an initial stage of the bike design, Bajaj and Kawasaki are going to develop it locally without having any Kawasaki-like looks.

There are lot of doubts and rumours about this bike which is pictured over here, it seems that the design was made through Photoshop to create hype or is it a MAGICAL WORD OF TRUTH. This 300cc bike which fits well for racetracks, bike lovers always wants this kind of bike which has a sporty looking at front. The bikes will have a single cylinder as per the picture and we can’t simply wait and see that how much single cylinders can handle at the amount of power produced from this bike. The rumours expect the Pulsar 300cc will be having a DTS-Fi engine.

The New (Rumoured) Pulsar 300cc will count our cash nearing to 1 Lakh mark. As we Indians, we are not that rich to spend all our money on filling petrol to its belly, which will equip more than 45bhp. Comparing to Pulsar 200cc on its mileage, it is giving mileage somewhere around 30-35 kmpl then think about this, Oh god save Bajaj to tune well with power and mileage. We expect if the bike is true then it will give us a mileage somewhere between 20-25 kmpl.

Bike lovers, particular Pulsar enthusiastic just hope that the Bajaj Pulsar 300cc will roll out with sporty looks, seat saddle, headlamps and also the kick-start option and of course, a six-speed transmission and gearshift concerns that earlier Pulsars have got.

People from Yamaha and Honda say that Bajaj is not into making of a Pulsar 300cc or so and it’s just their marketing strategy of hyping about their forthcoming launches, so people talk about the brand and promote it before even the launch has happened.

Finale, If Bajaj rolls out with its new Pulsar 300cc which will surely bright like a star in the Indian market as if they already doing well and it will give a bang and kill everybody who stands against it as always. Let’s be active and minimize our eyes blinks. We will check if any news appears on this rumoured bike we will link to you, until then stay tuned.

Exclamation India waits for Kawasaki Bajaj Ninja 250R

Is the Pulsar enough to maintain Bajaj’s status as a great bike manufacturer? I guess not. Pulsar 150, 180, 200, 220… hmm and not a Pulsar 250 again! The next super bike from Bajaj will be the Ninja 250. Except the Bullet, there is no other bike in India which touches the world standard 250cc mark. Will Ninja be the first one? Lets wait and see. This is the original Kawasaki Ninja…

Kawasaki, the Japanese bike manufacturer and Bajaj have had a relationship for the past 25 years. And it is likely that the relationship will continue. Kawasaki will handle the technical part of the Ninja 250 and marketing and distribution will be done by Bajaj in India.

Bajaj Ninja 250 will be equipped with 8 valve DOHC 249cc twin-cylinder liquid cooled engine with fuel injection system. This motorcycle’s machine churns out 30 BHP of power and has a six speed hear box. The bike is claimed to go upto a maximum speed of 177 kmph

The bike is being manufactured and distributed in Thailand and the numbers prove that the bike has had a good response from the people. The bike will not be directly imported, but assembled in the Indian Bajaj’s plant. The bike may start showing up by end of 2008 or early 2009, but nothing is for sure. I hope that the quality of Indian fuel increases before this super bike gets launched.

You can get more details about Ninja 250R at the official website of Kawasaki. Hopefully the bike will be Bajaj Ninja 250R soon instead of Kawasaki Ninja!

Re: India waits for Kawasaki Bajaj Ninja 250R

one thing i know regarding the Pulsar 220... it won't be a good deal to purchase... cost would be too high yet the performance of the 220 is only at par with the 200... some users in India even indicated that the Pulsar 200 (Rouser 200 for us) is even better than the Pulsar 220. Cost wise, you'd probably be adding give or take an additional maybe 50K for the 220 compared to the price of the 200... But it's not gonna be much different in performance with the the 220 over the 200. IMHO...

    Lightbulb Bajaj Pulsar 220 Upgrade

Bajaj plans to upgrade the Pulsar 220 cosmetically by giving it the black theme. The Pulsar 180 & 200 already have the black theme and we wonder why Bajaj launched the Pulsar 220 without black wheels. Actually we know why Bajaj did not launch the Pulsar 220 with black wheels, simply because they would want to do this later. I think Bajaj is feeling the heat from Yamaha.

The Black themed Pulsar 220 should be launched along with the upgraded Pulsar 200. Bajaj plans to launch the Pulsar 200 with FI which would give the Pulsar 200 a competitive edge against the Yamaha FZ16.

    Update - 20/04/2009
According to a senior representative of Bajaj Auto, the company will continue to refine and evolve its home-grown sportsbike – the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi. He added that there will be certain styling changes, engine tweaks, perhaps monoshock rear suspension, better brakes and revamped instrumentation.

Thumbs up MODIFIED Bajaj Pulsar Pulsar 220 (Possibly Rouser 220)

This Pulsar 220 was originally red in colour. But the owner went ahead and modified it a bit. As you can see, it now has a custom paint job in white, graphics, full fairing, R6 model number plate holder, a black theme with the wheels and engine painted, and the kind of gold disks you usually find on superbikes. All this cost Rs. 25,000. We honestly feel the R15 would be better, but then when the owner modified this, there was no R15 around.

    Lightbulb New Bajaj Pulsar 250?

    REPOSTING:

Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL) is working on higher power bikes which will be launched under its own brand. It currently markets bikes up to 220cc and is developing a 250cc and a 300cc bike to tap the high-end domestic bike market.

The new upgrade of Pulsar is also being developed by the company. According to a company official, BAL has already approached an Europe-based motorcycle design consultancy to work out new designs for the bikes and is also taking help from its Austrian bike company, KTM, in which BAL has a stake.

BAL GM (marketing) Amit Nandi said: “The new launches are part of the long-term plan to develop bigger bikes under the Bajaj banner. We are working on that. We have the capability and technology to develop products on our own, which will be leveraged to develop products across different segments.”

Unlike Hero Honda, which is dependent on its Japanese partner Honda Motor Co for technology, Bajaj Auto has developed its own technology over the years. So the company is working on new bikes based on its patented DTSi technology and also its indigenously developed fuel injection technology.

I think it will be PHP>100K for FI Pulsar kasi yung non-FI nga eh INR68K yun, dapat PHP68,215.56 lang kaso naging PHP 94K na sa local market and that's Php25785 difference!

    >100K na yan for sure...

Cost wise, you'd probably be adding give or take an additional maybe 50K for the 220 compared to the price of the 200... But it's not gonna be much different in performance with the the 220 over the 200. IMHO...
    wow!!!

galing talaga ng memory ni Big Boy Mike...... hehehehehehehe........

yah, 200cc carb type from 220cc FI type are almost the same in performance, as per user and manufacturer claimed (secretly).

The Philippines is no yet ready for the FI technology and only few mechanics knows this.

The advantage of carb type is that, its easy to modify by changing the carb and the maintenance is easy unlike from FI. The only problem is that, the incoming E10 is becoming popular and wide-spreading.

Many bikes made by 4 big manufacturers akala niyo Japan made???? Hindi po, may mga China po yan pero cyampre, may quality standard din. Di ko na mention ang mga modelo, mahirap na. Pero matitibay at subok na yon.
