h3lios September 13th, 2007, 07:05 PM I was just half listening to the GMA evening news...
Heard about a shootout involving the police and two motorcycle riding suspects in makati.
The officer interviewed said, that they are going to stop riders for "verification" of identification (d/l?, registration?) and take snapshots of the rider/backrider/bike...this is to be used in making a gallery where complainants/victims of crimes can use to identify the suspects.
Wow.
But then I might have heard wrong.
Ah...here it is: http://www.gmanews.tv/story/60273/Motorcycle-riding-robber-killed-in-Makati-shootout
The Makati police had been enforcing "Oplan Photo Sita," a security plan wherein motorcycle riders are stopped on the street and are required to have pictures of their vehicles taken.
NyRoS September 13th, 2007, 07:16 PM grabe nmn yan...tamang hinala....heheheh
papapictyur ako..naka smile...^___^
x2per September 13th, 2007, 07:18 PM OMFG!!! Suspect ka na kaagad? Tama ba yun?
Policemen said they tried to halt the four, but the suspects took an alternate route. The fatality was a passenger who alighted a motorcycle and opened fire at pursuing law enforcers, the television report said.
Question ko lang:
And going back to the topic:
Kund hindi sila (PNP) lalagpas sa sinabi nila sa Media na mga ginawaga nilang pag-check sa mga motorista, well that's a good action from them*. (*)That's what i think, okay?!
Medyo tiis na lang sa abala.
And dun sa nangyaring aksidente:

h3lios September 14th, 2007, 09:40 AM Ok, let's define the issue here.
The issue is not the shoot-out that resulted in the deaths of two "suspicious looking" riders.
The issue is you and your bike are to be photographed to be included in some album or gallery.
When somebody complains of being robbed/snatched/victimized, they just open the books and let the victim point out the suspect/s. I'm not being paranoid but what if a "mistake' is made and you or your bike is "identified"? We all know that our law enforcers have the habit of assuming a suspect as guilty before proving them innocent.
Ok, the Republic of Makati might have the right to impose martial law in their territory. That's their Commander in chief Binay's and his police chief's idea of securing the safety of their enclave.
What bothers me is that they concentrate on riders only. They should also stop all vehicles including cars/trucks/suv's etc. to take photographs of their drivers and units for profiling. Include all people living, working in or plain walking through makati to get their pictures and profiles to make their database more complete.

Lahat naman tayo "suspect".
be ready for "tingin sa camera....harap sa kanan....sa kaliwa...ok, sa fingerprinting...."

I don't mind checkpoints, too.
Positive results from checkpoints like suspects apprehended (eliminated?) happen all over the country. It's not an exclusive accomplishment of the Makati Police. Law abiding citizens are happy for it and thankful to our gallant policemen and law officers.
Really, I don't mind ahving my license and registration checked...but to stand up to a wall and have my pictures taken while my only crime is that I happen to pass by their checkpoint....that will be a bit of too much.
NyRoS September 14th, 2007, 10:29 AM totally insane..

x2per September 14th, 2007, 01:33 PM Proverbs:
Only In The Philippines!!!
atomictom8 September 14th, 2007, 02:27 PM some government official/police love the shotcut way in doing their job.
too many to enumerate, most of the time, skipping due process.
suspects are even paraded, ignoring their rights as innocent until proven guilty.
karagkarag September 15th, 2007, 01:47 PM Sir Binay,
Live cams sa high risk areas at main routes are better that oplan kokodakan. :)
jerk18 September 15th, 2007, 07:19 PM Buti na lang di ako pumupunta dyan sa Republic of Makati...
saka dami yata pokiness dito...
majongero September 18th, 2007, 08:41 AM i would only pose for the cam if they got enough evidence to pin me down.
everyone's a clear suspect for a crime, but this one is streamlining the list to a minority: the riders.
new style, old news.

What if they really "pin you down" literally, like what they did when they apprehended that pizza delivery guy a while back? The poor guy had to hold on to the lamp post while the MAPSA thugs were taking away his bike by force.
Or just simply shoot and "take care of complications" later...there's no shortage of loose firearms to plant as evidence to make it appear as a "shoot-out". No I'm not being paranoid...it has been done and still being done everywhere.
Like we (as individual riders) really have any other choice but to comply. The sad thing might be, Makati will be bragging about the "success" of their operations and the rest of the cities and municipalities will then copy it.
arco_72 September 18th, 2007, 09:46 AM verification of license and registration - fine with me.
photos of me and my bike for photographic records - HELL NO!! this is like taking mugshots of every passing riders. and mugshots are also photographic records of arrested individuals for purposes of identification by victims and investigators.
grabe! by taking our photos, we are being subjected to procedures done to an arrested individual.
atomictom8 September 18th, 2007, 12:40 PM isumbong kay tulfo?

rhayan September 18th, 2007, 10:11 PM nakita ku yun.. pinipilt ng officer yung pizza guy... to be apprehended... it was on news... matagal na...
h3lios September 19th, 2007, 10:42 AM BTW, what offense did the pizza guy made? :?
I don't really know but from the looks of it, parang gusto i-tow ng MAPSA yung delivery bike, aywa ipahatak ng pizza boy.
