what's in your opinion the best (locally) available fullface helmet when you consider:
- ventilation
- quietness (windnoise)
- easy to clean (removable lining)

Anybody uses Schuberth helmets here?
or is there a local Schuberth dealer?

At the moment I'm using a FM fullface ,am unhappy with it since at high speed the windnoise is quite severe ( helmet is correct size). My other helmet is an acerbis offroad lid which is great offroad but pretty useless on the road.

Another question: anybody uses GPS rigs? type? comments?
philippine maps available or you have to make them yourself as you ride?

thanks.

on GPS

there is no complete datamaps for GPS in the philippines as of the moment. the last one i experimented with Garmin with a test map of manila is +/-5kms in accurate. i was in makati when the GPS point out that i am in luneta. even the military dont have such info.

for online maps you can use www.onthemap.com.ph

for print maps, buy one of those CITY ATLAS from national bookstore, PHP300 per book, PHP150 per province. you can also ask them (cityatlas) to customize your map as in you can have a complete map 8 feet tall. (great for tracking the route)

On GPS, my experience is a bit different. I have been using occasionally Garmin (model III I believe) and the maps with that one were very good. Biggest error in Makati was to define on which side of our office building I was.

On both SLEX and NLEX, there is an error in east - west direction (about 100 meters or so, don't remember exactly) but north - south is very accurate. In North Luzon the accuracy was very good in all directions.

Of course this all depends on the satellites, sometimes they might be used for "other" purposes and the accurancy could suffer, I have been told.

2 years ago i used magellan gps-315 from sta. mesa, manila to infanta accuracy was around 50 meters. waypoints are only major cities so u have to input datas. never tried it again, hope the unit still works when i go home...

helmet: i use HJC CL12; protects my head but noise is a bit harsh. some experienced riders this side of town told me that the Zeus helmet has better noise level (i.e. better means quiter)... how about the more expensive ones like Shoei, Bell, etc..??

GPS: i use the database system of MunichRe (the german reinsurance company); this is one of the acceptable standards in my line-of-business worldwide. as to accuracy, i don't know, perhaps your commercial models might give you better readings... wouldn't Casio have a model that is wearable??... pardon, but i can't imagine myself using a portable on my bike as finding directions seems natural (to me).

stay hot!
