Its the bigest motorsports event in the Philippines in the last 5 years with over 10 nations participating together with the countries best motocross riders organized by NAMSSA(namssa01@hotmail.com)

This is sad. This event has been done almost a week now and I can't find anywhere on this website who won the race. And to think this website was one of the sponsors. With this kind of promotion and lack of press, MX has nowhere to go in the Philippines. :{

It takes time for people to write the news story and get it to me and it takes time to create the pages and links to get it on line. I received the press release a couple of days ago but I am working from 6 - 7am to midnight so some things don't get on-line as fast as I would like.

Apart from Namssa we get almost no input and very little support from MX groups and can only publish what we get. If these groups send us more info we will be glad to publish it.

The full story will be on line later today.

I didn't mean to sound so pessimistic nor critical of your fine website, but I guess I'm just so spoiled by the MX scene here in the US, you know , live webcasts, instantaneous live scoring of events etc. I guess I may be mistaken by thinking MX could be a big thing in the Philippines. The web versions of the Philippine newspapers had maybe just a paragraph or so a couple of days after the event. A local cockfight might have more press coverage than an international motorcycling event over there, it seems. My two cents worth.

business pa rin yan, boss. Konti lang talaga maka afford ng race bike sa bansa namin dahil alam mo naman siguro ang kalagayan ng ekonomiya dito. So, di masyado coverage dahil konti lang bibili ng slot for commercials. Di kase katulad sa america na pwede utangin lahat kaya madami kaya bumili ng kahit ano, kahit mc donald's tumatangap na ng credit card e.

I don't get the argument of it being due to the economy. Isn't rally car racing popular there too? How bout the import car (Fast and Furious type)? They (meaning local media) cover that and motoGP races more than MX. There's even a show on one of the ABS-CBN stations that features car racing. Cars cost more than bikes.MotoGP or roadrace bikes cost about twice as much as MX bikes. Yet these types of racing get the press.
Here in the US MX may be popular, but the truth is a lot of people look at this type of racing as a hillbilly sport, in the same category as demolition derby and tractor pulls. The only glamour here is Supercross and the outdoor nationals, where you've got your million dollar riders and factory blingbling. FMX is also popular, although that is getting stale. On the local level, even the local press seem not to care. Case in point: I attended a National Arenacross race held here a couple of years ago. The race was held in Nationwide Arena, which is partly owned by the Columbus Dispatch, the local paper. There was no mention of the event's results in the Dispatch. One of the outdoor national races is held yearly about 1 1/2 hours away from Columbus, in Troy, Ohio. I've never read about the event in the Dispatch. Yet you can read all you want about the Superbikes at Mid-Ohio when they're in town for a race.
I remember when I first was exposed to MX in the 80's. Local riders were converting Yamaha DT's and Suzuki TS's, maybe even Kawasaki KE100's for MX use, on tracks that look more like BMX tracks. No Production MX bikes here, and if there were they ran in a separate class. Nowadays you've got Kawi KMX's, still not a true MX bike but pwede na for local races. That is where it starts and that needs to be nurtured so as to develop a market for the true race bikes. These are way more affordable than cars or superbikes.
Now if they'd only realize they could also get more chicks with better bikes...

Kase karamihan ng nag car racing dito ( drag,road) pang pamilya din yun kotse nila na ginagamit, pag may karera tinatangal mga upuan, etc.(pero syempre iba pa rin yun mga bigtime talaga). Parang mahirap yata isakay ang pamilya sa motor na wlang ilaw at wlang plaka. Saka FYI medyo bibihira na rin car rally dito, and katulad ng mx pinapalabas lang sa tv around 11pm, sunday night at hindi live, saka few days din late sa mga newspapers. Saka karamihan ng producers nila sila din yun kumakarera....uwi ka na lang kaya dito at gawin mo yun mga ideas mo baka sakaling makatulong ka sa nakakarami, kaya mahirap i explain sa yo ang sitwasyon sa pinas dahil nasa america ka (ako din pala pro uwi na ko next month...)...suggestion lang po!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW who's in charge of MX sa atin? NAMSSA? CYSSAP? How does one get a hold of them?

NAMSSA na po ngayon under Macky Carapiet and Mike Potenciano is the one organizing the national motocross series. Meron silang contact number somewhere dito sa forum. Saka kami nga po ng pamilya ko ginagawa namin yun kaya namin atleast makatulong sa mga less fortunate na riders sa amin, nagpagawa kami ng motocross track (as in kami lang gumastos), open sa lahat ng gusto gumamit. Saka bumibili ako ng used gears and stuff dito sa states para ibenta sa amin with very minimal tubo(pangbawi lang ba)...hulugan pa. Kase nakita ko so many times na isang helmet, 3 riders ang gagamit. Tapos nka jeans or jogging pants.Well, syempre meron pa rin medyo okay sa buhay na kaya bumili ng bago pero karamihan medyo kapos talaga.

I will have my 2 cents of whats going on on this thread. I used to race back in the Philippines in the late 80's and I remember that there was even a class for tricycle style bike like TMX and the equivalent on the other brands. That is how resourceful PINOY RACING is. I agree with eric that those DT in the Phils. are the mode of transportation during the week and race bike on weekends. It will take the involvement of the media to really bring motocross into mainstream. Maybe you can start a program in the Philippines like the KTM Junior challenge. This will be a hit.

If they can shell-out close to PHP200,000 per KTM50 SR LC, that's the average annual income in the the P.I. (well, make it above average annual income). And KTM dealer dito dati medyo konti na lang yata KTM na binebenta saka ACCESS PLUS na yata oficial dealer dito and I don't think na kikitain nila yun ipamimigay na motor. Well, sna na lang pag bago na presidente dito e medyo umayos na bansa natin.

My thought is if MX is to be successful in the philippines, start with the kids. P200K for a KTM? How much would a PW50 cost? probably less than half of that. What about those Chinese or Korean knockoffs of the honda CRF50? I'm sure those would be more affordable than the KTM's. And these bikes are more durable than their bigger brothers. I've seen races here in the PW 50 class for kids 4-6 yrs. old . Some bikes were older than their riders. And the turnout for these races here is tremendous-you could easily have 50 entries in this event alone. I sure this would be just as popular in the phils - IF the bikes were available. And don't laugh at the PW50-Bubba rode one!

If everybody remember the late 70's when MX is popular in the Phils. and every newspaper have a story about the race and the rider? Well that was when Jackie race MX. When you have a popular guy racing you get the coverage. When Richard Gomez started trail riding in Subic it was all over the news paper. This is what the MX in the Phils. needs. Alam mo naman pinoy mahilig sa celebrity kahit politica pinasok na.

If we wanna help the sport of MX in RP, maybe we can do something like sending your 2 year old bike and sell it there at cost. The guy who's going to buy it is going to race because only riders can afford an MX bike.

Been there, done that..I sold 2 xr 50's, 2 yz250f, 1 yz125, 1 yz250, 1 yz426, 1 crf450. Also, 5 balikbayan boxes full of used stuff, even used chains, tires...Even my tech 8's, asterisk brace, HRP's, smith warp's, Gary Semics video (well, that's for viewing only, not for sale)...you name it!!!!!!!! We have ktm 50's, king cobra, kx65 for sale this november, did I mention an '04 crf450? Saka kakatapos lang ng karera sa town namin, pamilya ko nag asikaso. But' I'm telling you that I'm not making a business out of it, gusto lang makatulong. May kasabihan nga tayo na easier said than done. Mahirap kase na puro suggestions lang pero hindi alam ang sitwasyon.One more thing, we bought a bnew pw50 5yrs ago for PHP 49,000(used, 20-30k).imagine na PHP 10-15k a month average sweldo dito.So, ano unahin mo... motor ng anak mo o pagkain nyo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Again, kung may suggestions kayo, baka naman pwede gawin nyo na lang kesa mapuno na forum na to e ni isang used tear-off nyo wlang makarating ng pinas...Pinoy racing, it's good to know na i try mo maguwi ng bikes. Usap tayo asap. Ingat.

I've got two older bikes and a Ford Explorer that I'd love to ship back home, but via balikbayan box kinda sounds almost like smuggling, even if the intentions are honest.

Hindi illegal ang mag salita. Kung may magagawa ba ako, aba't yung legal. Illegal ang smuggling. But I guess you think you're above the law, probably because of your family name, hindi pakikialaman ng customs ang mga iniismuggle mo basta nakita nila yung apelyido. I don't want to associate with this kind of people so wag na lang. Your loss.

kmusta na dyan sa land of oppurtunities? Yung dalawang kapatid ko nandyan na rin. Yung isa nasa Maryland. Yung isa naman ay nasa New York. Pero hinde nalang ako nagpapabile ng mga gamit for MX kasi nagstop muna ulit ako sa offroading.Nagsawa lang ako talaga. Maybe babalik ako in two years time. Mahal ng mga bikes kasi ngayon. Pag binenta mo naman ay mababa naman masyado. Imagine I bought my CR250 01 for 300k. Just sold it last Feb at 190k. Sariwang sariwa pa naman yun. Havent changed the rings nor yhe brake pads. Just the plugs and chain. Naka FMF SST, pro taper, Radvalve and race tech springs front and rear.

Pangit pa rin ng local racing dito sa pinas dahil hinde nagkakasama ang Caltex-revtex Team at Shell-Yamaha Team sa mga MX races. Why? Ganun pa rin. Same reason. Nagkasam lang naman sila nung Asia Pacific. Tsk tsk tsk.

Daig mo pa pala taga customs e sila na ang nagsabi na basta disassembled yun bike di na kailangan bayaran yun taxes (saka for racing lang naman, no plates), saka dito sa states ganun din dba, pag bumili ka out of state wala din taxes ( I guess alam mo yun...) basta cash at hindi hulugan. Bakit naman my loss? as if naman nangailangan na ako sa yo. Typical pinoy ba? Well, I'm proud to be one.

Sky...tama ka dun sa sinabi mo. Sayang nga dahil kasabay ng race sa Cebu yun sa amin. Bale dapat nandun din shell, nag YES na sila kaso meron pla sa inyo kaya caltex lang dumating. Grabe hirap magpa race no? Pero at the end of the day sulit naman, masarap feeling pag nakagawa ka ng kahit paano sa mga tao. Goal ko nga b4 ako mag 30yrs old, maging nationals yun race sa amin.

1 oversized,1 regular.May pattern na kase ako sinusunod pagbaklas e kaya minimal lang disassembly saka di maaksaya sa box.Yun oversized around $120 + $60-65 yun regular box.Pero medyo mahigpit dyan ngayon.Meron sana ako 2 cr's dito pero ayaw pa nung shipper, delikado pa daw.

Depende kase kung may bibili e.Yun KTM na- realize nila in a hard way na wala masyado bibili ng motor na pang race lang.Pagdating naman kase sa dual-purpose,madami talaga pagpipilian.Saka hindi katulad sa states na halos lahat pwede hulugan(utangin ba...).Nung kumuha kami ng 2004 crf450 sa japan umabot almost PHP 400k.Pero and gawa talaga namin bibili ako dito sa states ng bike tapos chop-chop padala dyan,pero medyo naghigpit sa customs kase may nag puslit daw ng mga baril.Taga OH po pala kayo,nakarating ako dati malapit sa boundary ng PA.Nasa NY/NJ area ako ngayon,bakasyon pero sumasakay ako sa englishtown raceway.

You sound like you're afraid of something. Ba't delikado kung approved ng customs? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the difference between a gun and a motorcycle.
As far as I know most states have sales taxes. You may say that you didn't pay tax but the dealer may have figured the tax in when negotiating the out the door price.
And I wasn't referring to you. I meant Philippine motocross. But I guess you can take care of that yourself.

Kase po pag binuksan daw sa customs sa atin baka pag interesan dahil iba daw mga tao dun ngayon dahil election period. And maraming nangyari daw po this year na ganun, nabuksan mga boxes, may kulang na pagdating sa pupuntahan. Na halos nawala na yun practice na ganun dati. Yan ang sabi ng may-ari ng cargo. So, i guess delikado nga.

Saka hindi lang po ako ang willing gumawa ng something sa MX sa pinas, madami din naman na gumagawa talaga pero mas marami ang puro suggestions/criticisms lang.

NAMSSA is inviting qualified moto cross riders to the Asian Motocross Champs to be held in Macau on Oct. 31.2004.

Riders are for the PW class 9 yrs old and below
Junior class 85cc and under 15 yrs old
Asian 125cc 15yrs old and above
