hi guys!

been thinking, used to have a football helmet. Will that do? I know, i know. A place for everything. Just out of curiosity. Will that offer the same protection? well basically, it's subject to a lot of crashes. it dont break, it dont go off, you got a nice mouth piece, ventilation is excellent, materials are superb:rolleyes: . What do you guys think

A football helmet is not designed for high speed crashes and impacts on asphalt or concrete. The inner linning is not comparable to the polystyrene material on motorcycle helmets which difuses impact energy.

The worst possible scenario you could face in a football game is finding yourself under a pile of 10 full grown men weighing an average of 240lbs each, or running into a Defensive Tackles/Tacklers at about 10 meters per second (fastest human running speed). A situation which is very far from your usual motorcycle crash.

by comparing the looks of these helmets alone, one can notice that they don't have the same structure...as Ichthus had mentioned already...they each serve a different purpose...

besides this, don't you think you'll look funny wearing a football helmet while riding an MC? same goes for those who ride their bikes wearing helmets made for soldiers, and those who wear construction workers' hard hats...

As far as I know, football helmets are design for human impact only.

Motorcycle helmets are designed for greater impacts than from humans attacking you head on.:D

may gumawa na nyan sir.

sa NLEX, a rider was running at a moderate speed tapos tinackle nung guard. taob yung rider. takbo yung guard sa lelang nyang panot.

Sometimes kasi we want to look cool by being different. We tend to put focus on "porma"-lity instead of functionality. Stick to what's needed, it's your head, remember?

what do you mean about this; youre also making a personalized helmet na parang Trojan Warriors-this are made out of brass plate.

Helmets serve one purpose....to protect the wearer's head, however, different types of helmet were designed for specific use...

so, use Motorcycle Helmets when riding motorcycles...as much as possible yung CERTIFIED...

Sad to note that a lot of riders nowadays use the following helmets though they were NOT designed for motorcycle riding use...
1. Bicycle Helmets
2. Skateboarder's Helmets
3. Construction Workers' Hard hats
wiered as it seems but i've seen these..
4. Jet Pilot's helmet
5. Soldiers helmets (Dessert Storm, German, etc...)

have you guys seen and felt an authentic NFL "gameplay" football helmet??? well i have... and its tough as hell, tough its NOT as tough as those P10k+ helmets, I rather use one rather than those below P5k ones... its made of tough polycarbonate shell and EVA liners and energy/shock management system and alot more safety features... it is desiged to take abuse and absorb punishment since day 1 when the players wears it on the field... hindi rin po birobiro yung punishment at untog na natatamo ng football players, much worse, nangyayari ito sa kanila every game at talagang sinasadya pa ng opponent nila... wag nyo ismallin, its much tougher and safer than you think... baka nga mas matibay pa nga ito sa mga ibang kilalang helmets na claimed ng makers ay DOT kuno pero hindi pala dumaan sa actual DOT testing...

My college buddy owns a few since he's a big AFL fan (the guy has a GB Packers and Brett Farve shrine). I got a chance to wear one when we had a liitle footgame ourselves in school. I must admit that its really tough and your head is protected. But still, it was designed for football and not motorcycle riding. The shell may be tougher than those cheapo helmets in the market and it may be better than wearing a hardhat or a taekwondo headgear. But I rather trust my head on a $60 HJC (kahit sa Zues na tig 2,500Php) than a $90 Riddell or Schutt football helmet.

I did compare the Helm with our local helms, ang laki ng difference.

Original Sports safety equipment vs locally made safety gears? saan ka? whats you opinion?

pero think about it. gaya na lang ng helm. pang football sya pero it will exceed what is designed by index helms ang kulang lang, lens and a pair of good clear eyeglasses will do. kasi yung mga nakikita ko nakataas din nanam ang windsheild tapos naka shades. skateboard gear instead of KTM na kakabili ko lang kahapon, hindi ko pa nararanasan mag crash, natanggal na yung kabitan ng straps. and to think, 1K sya per set. There really is something to look into gears. appropriate talaga na gumamit ka ng tamang gear sa tamang activity pero pag naman ganito, dont you think its all a bunch of B.S. (bull s#it) and they are trying to make us wear the gears they design! man.... this really is something to look into.

My opinion, if the gear protects you even if it's not designed for it, wear it rather than buy a gear that is designed for MC that you cannot rely upon.

you decide.....................

well i dunno about what type of football helmet you use sir but if it has those hard plastic face guard that might shatter on impact on the pavement. it is pretty much safe for your overall heat protection but how about your face from those broken hard plastic?

Although it's not a good idea, I personally think you'll look pretty cool if you have a visor fitted into the eye area of the helmet. Hehehehe.

Col.TED
March 18th, 2007, 06:22 PM
The helmet must be specific to the impacts expected in the activity. The attached face protector should withstand the likely impact-a rider experience on a crash/spill and anyone likely would not feel secure with a football face shield.
