View Full Version : Installed YRS Primary, have a question about carb setting

Hey guys,

Finally got a YRS primary for the KMX125. It really helps, especially considering that the stock exaust was half restricted with carbon.

Question:
At 5000 rpm in a lower gear cruising the bike sound almost like it's "missing", but hit the throttle a little and it responds great. I mean the bike runs good, better than ever. Is the sound I'm hearing normal with this type exhaust? Maybe I just couldn't hear it with the stock pipe.

On a car when you install headers its normal to increase jet size a little. Is that something to consider with this exhaust?

FYI
The reed valves have been changed, probably Boysen(sp?)

Thanks,
mark

on a 2 stroke engine, any alterations/modification done to the exhaust system (primary included) and the fuel induction system (reed valve) will require you to adjust the air/fuel mixture of the carburator in order to maximize the potential of the mods. Try to adjust the carb first before resorting to upsizing the jets. good luck

MLANIER,
THE WALLS OF THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM HAS A NOISE DEADENING (tama ba spelling?) MATERIAL SA INTERNAL SIDE NG PIPE. PARA SYANG FIBER REINFORCED BY PERFORATED METAL SHEET. PURPOSE OF IT IS TO LOWER THE NOISE. WITH THE AFTERMARKET EXHAUST OF YRS, IT'S JUST PLAIN SHEET OF METAL. YUN NARIRINIG MO AY NORMAL LANG. YOU ONLY NEED TO ADJUST THE CARBURATOR(needle/airscrew) OR CHANGE THE JETS IF ITS LEAN OR RICH. SA EXPERIENCE KO, I ONLY ADJUST THE NEEDLE AND AIRSREW. SAME SA SUGGESTION NI SPDFGTR.:)

Guys,

I adjusted the airscrew counterclockwise 4 whole turns out. Is this too far out? The spec is 1.5- 2 turns out. The bike seems better but not totally cured. Maybe it's alright, but I think it could still be smoother.

Perhaps as some point I will take it to a shop and let someone more experience try it. Any pointers on a good local mechanic.

Thanks,

Mark

SIR SKYGO,

Hey dude thanks for the advice. After considering your wise words, I looked back at the Boyesen web site and *eventually* after a couple of tries set the needle to the middle position and returned the airscrew to within specs. The bike runs much better without all that popping. It's really fast enough to almost scare me now. Just a little fine tuning of the airscrew and that's it.

Thanks again,
