I watched a show on National Geographic last night and the title was "I didnt know that". The show is about how the everyday things that you use are manufactured and what are the process they do to perform quality control on them.

There was a segment on the show which features airbags. It shows how quickly they deploy once the sensors detected that there is a sudden deceleration of the car. They also showed how it was made.

At the end of that segment, they mentioned that there is currently a new technology on airbag system which is already being used by motorcycle cops in Japan. It is a safety jacket which you will harness on your motorcycle. Once you get thrown off your motorcycle, the harness would be pulled and the jacket would be filled with air cushioning your fall.

They didnt mention the price and if it is already available for the public to be bought. Hopefully it would be available to us in the very near future . . .

In the Philippines, we have similar technology for kotong cops and kotong traffic enforcers (may kotong ha kaya hindi lahat). The difference is, ung air, hindi nakalagay sa riding jacket, parang sa ulo ata nakalagay.

Oh, mali ako, hindi pala exclusive ito sa mga kotong cops and traffic enforcers.
May brand din pala na pang pasaway na MC rider.

Tapos bayad ka ulit ng P25K for another deploy. Parang airbag ng oto. Pagdeploy bayad ka uli ng bagong set.

Wahahahaha.... Hope they dont fill-up the bag with Helium. They'd better think of improving the technology. Instead of harnesses, sensors would work better.

A reusable air bag you wear! Visit Hit Air

The possibility of being involved in a accident is a reality for anyone that uses the highway. When an accident happens on that highway, motorcycles don't offer the same level of occupiant protection as an automobile with it's steel panels and air bags. So the smart motorcycle rider will evaluate and purchase the approprate safety gear for his/her style of riding. The Hit-Air airbag jacket is a serious piece of safety gear and I think it

I would not want to see more mandatory safety equipment required for motorcycles or riders and passengers. I think the amount of safety gear a rider uses should be primarily left to his/her discretion. With that said, I like the Hit-Air jacket! It's a practical piece of safety gear and it don't look bad! I believe there are a lot of riders that might well consider using this device.
Let's look at the odds of getting into a crash...
It goes without saying that you're riding skills and driving habits have a lot to do with it, but where you ride is also a factor. If you're a weekend rider that takes leisurely cruises on the back roads, or you mostly ride with groups, you are relatively safe on your motorcycle. But if you take your bike to work amidst rush hour traffic, or you mostly ride alone, you're more likely to be involved in a crash.

If you get into that accident and you're an older rider, you are also more likely to sustain a serious injury. It really sucks, but fifty year old bones just don't flex like twenty year old bones do! They don't heal as fast when they get cracked either! The Hit Air jacket is a good consideration for riders that frequently find themselves in hazardous situations, or older enthusiasts that simply might not survive a serious motorcycle accident. It is unobstructive and I especially like the fact that it's reusable.

Now before you start yelling about how unsafe this contraption could be in the wrong situation, I've considered the pros and the cons equally. It's true that an accidental inflation could spell disaster for a rider and might even be the cause of an accident in the first place. You might be concerned about bouncing off down the highway like a basketball with limbs and a head, but is it better to bounce without the air? I think the possible benifits far outweigh the odds of an adverse result from using this equipment and if I knew I would be flying through the air at 50 MPH, I'd rather be wearing the jacket!
