View Full Version : Crash Helmets are for the Head
a4tech February 28th, 2007, 02:35 AM Crash helmets are for the head
MOTORING TODAY By Ray Butch Gamboa, SPMJ
The Philippine STAR 02/28/2007
How many times have you seen people in motorbikes having their crash helmets either slung in their arms or on their motorcycle handle bars?
Worse, how many people in motorcycles have you seen without crash helmets, period?
Did you know that in other countries, when you buy a motorcycle, the manufacturer/distributor or the dealer of the bike is required by law to give you a crash helmet? Did you know that in other countries, even if they were not required by law, the motorcycle manufacturer or dealer gives a free crash helmet upon your purchase of your bike?
As the sales of motorcycles presently increase in leaps and bounds in the country, these issues should be addressed by the government as early as now before it’s too late.
Many are of the opinion that it should be incumbent on the manufacturers/distributors and dealers to initiate the concern for the "mandated use and issuance upon purchase of crash helmets" considering that it is as vital to motorcycle riding as learning how to ride in order to ensure the safety of everyone on the road – the bike rider and even the pedestrians alike.
As elections are in a few weeks time, candidates for the legislature can bank on an advocacy to ensure the safety of motor bikers through the strict enforcement of the "no helmet-no ride" policy and the "mandated issuance upon purchase of crash helmets" by motorcycle manufacturers and distributors.
Motorcycle sales in the country are on the rise and focus on safety of both the bikers and even the bikes should now be major concerns of the government.

Like improving the way LTO releases Licenses to would-be bikers and cagers. So that barumbado or ignorant road users may be minimized ... as much as possible ... at least.:D
invictus February 28th, 2007, 03:26 AM some motorcycle suppliers, they do give away free ... errr ... soup bowls? ... hehehe, oh its a helmet too?
Ha-ha! Nice one!
NSCB February 28th, 2007, 08:57 AM that's the problem....we all know that there are laws concerning these things....
that's why dealers give free helmets when you buy your MC...only problem is, the freebie helmet is NOT a certified one...
next...there are existing laws concerning MC riding...but then again, proper implementation ang kulang...depende na lang kung kelan nila gusto ipatupad...nagiging daan tuloy para sa corruption.
wearing helmet while riding is just one of them...think about MC registration and renewal, in the LTO form, there is a checklist of items for any vehicle to be given a registration...but sad to say, even those without Side Mirrors, Turn Signals, Headlights & Tail Lights that do not conform to the international standards can still renew their registration...
as the article mentioned...election time nanaman, i'm wondering when will we ever have senators who are really working for the people?

blueDINK February 28th, 2007, 10:00 AM yep It should be a law in this country para walang excuses ang mga hindi naghehelmet and those freebie helmet (kuno!) should not be a tabo! It should be helmets that has DOT certified they should also give knee pad and elbow pads!
NSCB February 28th, 2007, 10:09 AM in other countries, taking an MC riding course is not optional, it is a requirement before anyone can be issued an MC license....

is this news?
common, this is as old as motorcycling so why bark at the wall?
wearing the appropriate protection is INCUMBENT TO US not because there are laws, or because the baranggay kapten says so, or because mayor binay says so, yada-yada-yada. we wear the proper protection because we care about US and our loved ones.... and because we are not stupid.
look at the police or the mmda - do you see them wearing their helmets?
no amount of law or ordinances will work UNLESS some bad-ass implementor implements to a "T".
kasi alam mong may huli.
free helmets or any protective gears don't cut it - it is still totally dependent on the individual.
it is a choice.
me.

parang "seek n destroy" lakay. :D
so dahil walang gals yung helmet, napagisip-isip nila, yung siko ang kailangan magkahelmet. di sila komportable sa elbow protectors. kasi maliit ang cover nun. kaya ayun. yung helmet nila, sa siko nilalagay.
marami ako nakikita in my daily trips. nakaipit sa tohod nila ang helmet.
sikomet = para sa siko
tankmet = para sa gas tank
sidemet = para sa sidings
demet = para pag nag crash
  :*

And at the same time ay pinopromote nito ang one of the basics in safe riding. sana.......sana.......... :*
Slow_poke February 28th, 2007, 06:19 PM teka..helmet..siko..
elbow pad...para sa...ulo?

I'D REALLY LOVE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN...
Not wearing a helmet while on a motorbike should be an automatic suspension of license or at least a P1,000 and above fine.
Though the TMG enforcers have undergone extensive safety training, the "blue boys" police force riding their personal (confiscated?) motorcycles are the No. 1 violators of the helmet law. I'm pretty sure they're not exempted from the laws of physics governing velocity, gravity, momentum, kinetic energy and impacting forces.
john deere February 28th, 2007, 08:52 PM The filipino's are know for their "BRAVADO"..... That attitude wherein "kung pwedeng ilusot..... ilulusot"... This attitude is further enhanced or bolstered when that filipino is wearing a "badge", holding a gun, or is just wearing a uniform (MMDA, Army, Police, etc)
You can't change uniform clothed Neanderthal freaks into law abiding Homo Sapiens overnight. Hell, even the government is full of barong wearing Neanderthal freaks.
Bottomline, wear your helmet, let your wife or your loved ones wear theirs' too. When the smoke settles, who knows with all the Neanderthal freaks gone, maybe living in this land called Pearl of the Orient may not be so bad after all..
invictus February 28th, 2007, 10:13 PM I'm pretty sure they're not exempted from the laws of physics governing velocity, gravity, momentum, kinetic energy and impacting forces.
Well said! And these very same laws could be the ones who might give them the painful but necessary lessons to learn... if ever they survive the accidents waiting for them around the corner.

elbow pad...para sa...ulo?
Malamang pag nakabili sya ng elbow pads, sa ulo nya yun ilalagay, both sides of his head.:D:O
nel17bes March 1st, 2007, 02:42 AM Elbow pads sa ulo??? Ang PangeTTT!!!! Wahaha!!!
Helmet sa siko??? Wow!!! Mas PANGET!!! ^^
wag magagalit........
