View Full Version : How to select the right Helmet size?
TriFlector February 18th, 2007, 07:38 PM If it fits ba, ok na un?
Not tilted to protect the chin.
Pano po ba dapat?
Dick Steele February 18th, 2007, 08:34 PM Hard to give you the correct advise since every make & model has a different fit. Believe it or not it happens.
xploziv February 18th, 2007, 09:09 PM when trying the helmet on try to shift it up and down then left to right and viceversa to make sure that the helmet is not moving freely because if the helmet fits loosely it may fall out or slid out incase you had a spill . . .
overdose February 18th, 2007, 11:36 PM 1. a helmet should be snug but not too tight and the chin strap securely festened as tightly as possible without being uncomfortable
2. Once your helmet is seated comfortably on your head, thread the chin strap through the adjustment rings or section of the strap and pull it comfortably tight. Position the strap well against your throat, it should be tight enough so that you cannot place your fingers between the strap and your throat.
3. With the helmet securely fastened, move it from side to side, then up and down to insure that your skin movement is the same as that of the helmet. This check can be done using a mirror ro with another person observing.
4. Finally with the helmet securely fastened, attempt to rool the helmet forward off your head by firmly pulling upward the rear of the helmet. You should not be able to remove a correctly fitting helmet in that manner.
if the helmet passes these tests it is the correct fit for you however before any other person wears your helmet he or she should also maker sure it passes the same tests on him or her
PS Unfortunately some accidents result in head injuries and other types of injuries that cannot be prevented by any helmet. Depending on the nature of impact, even a very low speed accident can result in serious head injury, fatality or other personal injury
Always ride with extreme caution. No helmet can be expected to prevent injury in direct blunt impact even at speeds less than 13 miles per hour, but your new helmet can protect you in many diffrent ways when it is correctly fitted and properly fastened on your head
... these tests don't not appy for helmets meant for the elbow, helmets worn from the forehead up, and helmets worn in reverse (half face)
i hope this helps
TriFlector February 18th, 2007, 11:46 PM Very informative, Overdose!
Im planning to buy my 4th helmet but my 2nd full face. The first one passes all 4 that you mentioned but exposes the whole lenght of my neck. I dont want to buy something too big or looks heavy on me so I ended up with that compromise. This time, I'd like to really buy the appropriate one whether it looks big for my frame.
Thanks guys!
overdose February 19th, 2007, 12:36 AM if it looks to big for your frame, there are certain helmet models na because of the make and design it doesn't look bulky, like the 508w because of the ventilation ducts nya nag mukha syan pahaba (vertically) rather than mabilog and bulky. parang nagmukha syang medyo payat on the side...

bro, helmets will vary from the way they look outside though they are of the same size and fit you nicely, because of the different shell designs of different manufacturers....if you don't want bulky looking helmets, you may try Zeus 2000 & 2000A models...
TriFlector February 19th, 2007, 05:47 PM Tomm I will be able to own a Zeus 2100 (second hand lang). Will try it. If my wife doesnt like it will save up for something else....
overdose February 19th, 2007, 07:40 PM i was informed of this but i was never really able to verify
in connection to what NSCB has mentioned the shell for small medium and large helmets are the same what changes is the thickness of lining, what i'm not sure of is if meron kina ryan (action hobbies and motorworld) ng lining lang para kung may type ka na 2nd hand zeus na di mo size pwede palitan ng lining to fit you, mukhang good deal yang flat black zeus na makukuha mo right?

Sir,
Meron din palang mga pekeng Index and I dont know if Index Brands are also good helmets.

Right, usually same shell for S/M and L/XL, thickness of lining differs.

kung sa tondo ka, punta ka lang caloocan...dami dun...try to go for the branded ones...you can check out Fulmer, Zeus, HJC & KBC...but if you've got lots of money to spend go for AGV, Shoei, Arai...etc...
Some helmets manufacturers produce shells in three different sizes...
one shell for XS & S, another one for M & L, then one for XL to XXL...inner liner and paddings will then vary in thickness...

i believe HJC has a carbonfiber lid....just like what payon hunter has. pero 18k sa JT. ei...i got a good bargain from OZ racing at makati. i got a kbc vr2 dragon half the price plus a free oz racing bag. and the people there are nice :) highly recommended
TriFlector February 20th, 2007, 05:43 PM Got my Zeus 2100.
Might give it some time to like me nalang. Otherwise, back to Helmet selection...
commander007ph February 21st, 2007, 12:44 PM snug fit but not making the rider suffer from it.
overdose February 22nd, 2007, 12:50 AM i guess with helmets being brand concious ang going for the expensive ones is not a luxury but a safety concern, unlike with shirts and clothing doesn't mean mas mahal mas maganda :) diba:)
