nice! galing nung post mo sir! may point talaga. thanks :D

i got 13 stitches sa right middle finger dahil di ako naka gloves nung naaksidente ako. mabagal lang takbo ko pero sumabit pa rin sa brake lever. kung naka gloves ako that time, wala siguro akong tama :D

kaya kahit malapit lang naka gloves ako :D

sir ted, what are those carbon fiber knuckle protectors for? are those for extrs protection when you're irate and punch the other pasaway driver? cuz currently i use a joe rocket atomic and it has a padded knuckles but not as stiff as those carbon fiber knuckles. is that ok?

NSCB
February 19th, 2007, 02:47 PM
makisingit na rin....bro, carbon fiber knickle protectors are suppose to save you knuckle bones if your hands happen to hit other objects while riding...let's say you are filtering through traffic and you miscalculated the gap, your hands will mostlikely hit the rear end of another vehicle which will sure cause a lot of pain...and some broken bones as well....

dagdag ko na rin....it would be safer to use full-fingered gloves to totally protect our hands up to the finger tips....

kung meron ngang gabakala sa tibay na gloves mas maganda eh para kapag bigla ka pininahan ng cage... wait till you get near them during traffic... then PUNCH their face real hard like it wil almost knock them off reality... kung female driver naman eh simple ask them n alang why she have to do such thing... pero kapag mean looking tapos saksakan pa ng taray eh break the side mirror na lang... he he he he! KUDOS and ride safe to all MC users

FANTASTIC article... this is a fact people... I've had an accident while mountain biking using only gloves with exposed fingertips, the palm is gel padded but still I hurt my fingers when I fell, I scraped the skin on my fingers and it was really really painful... it was my only injury and yet I couldn't ride the bike anymore... disabled because of my hands... what more if it happened on a motorcylce... it gives me the creeps just thinking about it... that's why I now ride with a reliable set of gloves... ALL THE TIME...

Thanks Col. Ted and NSCB for bringing the point across... :D

Nice article Col. Ted.... this is very informative. Now you got me wondering if I need to upgrade my gloves right-away hehehe!

NSCB
February 19th, 2007, 04:23 PM
and that's another thing...most people simply settle with so-so gloves...the cheapest they can get...i can understand having a tight budget...but let's hope they realize that spending money on reliable MC gloves and other gears are more of an investment rather than an expense....

maganda talaga kung yung glove ay leather, mas meron laban kesa sa fabric gloves... leather gloves may be uncomfortable to some pero mas uncomfortable pag nasugatan na ang kamay mo... ingat mga bro... try not to learn the hard way... hehehe :D

something equally informative in addition to sir col. ted's research:

Gloves

Riding Gloves are another very important safety item to wear while riding your motorcycle. Unless we are trained not to (martial arts, gymnastics etc), then most of us reach forward, palms down when we fall. This gives a very high chance that it will also be an area that could loose not only lots of skin but blood as well. I've read that people who have not worn gloves in a motorcycle accident were surprised at the quantity of blood they lost through their palms (something like 2 quarts). That is a surprising amount to most of us and by wearing gloves that provide us with decent protection we can keep our blood where it is supposed to be, on the inside.

Gloves have been around for motorcyclists it seems since the introduction of the motorcycle. They are available in many different styles, temperature ranges, materials and degrees of protection. The vast majority of protective gloves for motorcycle use are either Leather or Textile (non-leather). Both leather and textile offer styles from basic to a high tech look and are made in a dizzying array of colours and patterns. With the innovation of 3M Thermalite (and other heat insulation products) we can now enjoy warm(er) hands in cold(ER) weather than ever before and enjoy the less bulky feel as well for that warmth. Today summer gloves for cool(ER) hands in warm(ER) weather can be made with the protection we need rather than cutting off protection (from inside palm, fingers top of hand etc) to keep our hands cooler.

Glove are probably the least controversial type of riding gear you will put on and no matter what you wear almost no one will care (expect for yourself). Unless someone you know (or is in your riding group) who went down talks about the benefits of gloves you will almost never have "motorcycle gloves" come up in conversation with other bikers. Just because they are not talked about doesn't mean that they are not important to wear.

What to look for:

• Gloves that were designed to meet or exceed what you are going to be using them for.
• Good stitching, especially in areas that will absorb any impact
• In the case of leather, thickness.
• Armor/Padding in areas that will absorb any impact, especially the palm area.
• Fit. Make sure you can use all your fingers without binding, and you can use the handlebar controls effectively.
• Warmth/Cooling. If you are going to ride in very hot or cold weather, pay attention to the gloves ability to provide that for you.
• Comfort. Since you will be wearing the gloves all the time, make sure they fit well and you can use all your fingers without binding, and you can use the handlebar controls effectively.
• Glove length. Too short of a glove will not provide adequate wrist protect from impact, bugs, wind, rain etc.
• Best Protection where you need it. Do you fall forward with your palms open or do you make a fist or… Best to look for protection there because in an accident it will be your habits that will take over.

Weather you are just riding around town, cruising the boulevard or pushing it to the limits on the race track you will find the right glove to suit the style and protection level you need for what you are doing.

Recommendations: If you find yourself riding without a windshield (or one that does not cover your hands) I would recommend getting "Gauntlet" style gloves (leather or textile) that fit up and cover your jacket's cuffs. That way, cold wind, bugs, rocks/dirt and rain won't go up and into your arms and it makes riding that more pleasurable.

all safety gears are made for a reason, hope we don't learn those reasons in a hard way

take note: safety first...

that's why gloves should not be an option it is a must. having stitches on your hands would cost you more money and lose your productivity, meaning no work no pay plus the cost of anti-tetanus and all those meds would cost you more. thats what they say and ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.=)

I suggest get gloves with those hard things (plastics/kevlar/hard rubber etc) to protect your finger joints and knuckles. Twice have i experienced sudden opening of doors (those dingbats!) which almost made my hands like longganisa.

One question, which do you tuck; jacket over the glove, or glove over the jacket? I do the first one, either way, keeps our hands protected.

Also, pag may away, those hard things help;)

1. its a basic safety requirement

4. some says uncomportable, eh comportable ka ba pag may sugat kamay mo?

when on long and not so exciting rides, like a highway,(European Highways) the gloves help to keep your hands warm, nothing like trying to change gear and your hand is cramped up due to the cold, besides the other and more painful events of hitting the road...ouch. so Gloves are a must on all occasions when biking. (hint:- would you take your cell phone and NO load haha)

Isa pa just in case sumemplang (wag naman sana) eh proteksiyon din.

trust me, i've crashed my bike and one of the first "contact point" of the crash was my hands...if i was not wearing my gloves i would have gotten a bloody hand/s..

gloves not only offer grip on the bike but also offers protection to your hands during crash. :)
