Swiss bikers are protesting against government plans to limit all motorbikes to 80kph.

Around 20,000 motorcyclists are expected to take part in a demonstration in Bern, the Swiss capital, on May 17, and a petition with over 200,000 signatures has already been presented to the Swiss authorities.

Switzerland’s biggest motorcycle association, Pro Moto, is organising the opposition to five proposals contained in the Swiss " Vision Zero " traffic blueprint. These include raising the minimum age for scooter riders to 18. But it’s the idea of speed limiters which has provoked the most outrage, with claims it would be more dangerous on motorways.

" We are not against a speed limit of 80kph. We are opposed to technically reducing a motorbike’s speed to 80kph, " said Pro Moto’s Roland Fuchs.

Sounds like a good way to kill off a few dozen riders. They will all get rear ended.

I just hope they don't do that here in the Philippines. I believe Frank is right in saying that so many guys will be rear-ended.

I know I will sound redundant (these comments that I have is to be posted here for the umpteenth time!) but bear with me.

I believe strict enforcement (redundant, I warned you! :D) of traffic rules is the KEY. The minimum speed for instance. I'm fortunate enough to see how traffic is in some other parts of the world and believe me, it can be done! I see 150cc standard bikes and 100cc thrid-world-asian-made scooters running alongside 750iLs in Singapore and the highways look pretty with these UNIFORMLY running vehicles in co-existence. Again, this is brought about by ENFORCEMENT.

We have logically strict enough rules for bikes and FOR CAGES. It's a matter of enforcing them. I recently claimed my license for a traffic offense from the MMDA office in Makati since Chairman Bayan (Bayani Fernando) ruled that it should be personally claimed - ok lang sir, I'm at fault naman talaga e :D. I was reading through those lists of traffic rules/violations/ penalties posted near the claim window. And lookie-lookie! If these stuff are just implemented (redundant, so redundant :D) to the letter, we will have GREAT streets to ply - both for bikes and cages.

Dreams. I just wish they can come through.
