No such thing as cheap protective gear. I'm sure you mean "affordable" since you CAN'T be refering to the "quality" of your protective gear...
Anyhow:
1. Helmet (Certified) - I recommend Full-Face
2. Motorcycle-Specific Jacket
3. Motorcycle-Specific Gloves
Optional:
1. Motorcycle-Specific Boots/Leather Pants
This **** is expensive man. Even the stuff coming out of Korea/Pakistan/China costs $. I personally like Vanson and Dainese... but I have a Teknic Racing Suit w/c works just fine (2 crashes @ the track already!).
Note: If you have a $10 head, get a $10 helmet... or go to Ebay and find a deal! :)
ala_eh_rider December 30th, 2003, 07:07 AM Rick T,
thanks for the advice man... i mean affordable not cheap... i stand corrected man.... can you give me a estimated prices??? i have to know it to make sure that my budget will not be shorted. hehehehe!!! second hand can do... talagang malaking pera kailangan ko kapag brand new ang bibilihin ko....

I would agree with Rick... protective gear doesnt go out cheap but it is a must that you should get them. If you are on a budget, the least you could do is look for 2nd hand items at this (http://www.motorcyclephilippines.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=18) thread.
Ryan at Action Hobbies located at Petron EDSA greenhills has very good cheap Komine products. Try to PM him or much better if you would visit his shop.
A list of the minimum protective wear you should get are as follows:
(1) Helmet - should be DOT and or SNELL certified. cheap ones are HJC available at JTTriumph in Caloocan or ZEUS available at Ryan's shop. Cheapest HJC brand new is around P3,500.
(2) Jacket - the best suited ones for our climate are the mesh jacket types. Check out www.joerocket.com and www.fieldsheer.com and of course, Ryan has cheaper alternative Komine items too. Joe Rocket and Fieldsheer kinds are around P7,500 brand new.
(3) Knee-Shin Protectors - I have seen crashes... and I'd say you wouldn't want to hurt your knee and shin who are one of the most hit areas when you crash. I'd say Komine is good. I don't have one myself but I've seen those of my fellow bikers and they are much better than what I have. I got mine at P1,200, Fox brand (don't get it).
(4) Gloves - This is very important too. When you fall, your instinct is to break your fall with your hands. You wouldn't want your palm skin to be peeled off. Get motorcycle bike specific ones. Good brands that I know of from first hand experience are Joe Rocket, Spidi, AGV, and Komine. Joe Rocket cheapest model is P3,000, brand new.
(5) Boots - There are motorbike specific ones for this too. I am using Gaerne Tempest and I'm so contented with it. It's my first italian made shoes! I got mine at P4,200, brand new.
Once again, it is a must you you should invest in protection wear. You wouldn't want to drop without them.

not sure kung kasya pa for body armor. but if you have the mesh jacket, you wouldn't need it anymore. the jackets have built in body armor already. besides, the body armor wouldn't give you needed protection for your skin against sliding which would give you road rashes.
i am in quezon city.

edm December 30th, 2003, 01:41 PM P20,000 is still cheaper than the cheapest skin graft and titanium rods for your bones, not to mention the pain and agony that goes with a crash!!!:D
Remember that your gearing up for the crash and not the ride, so buy the most protection you can get for your money.
Ride safe!
