KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP): A truck plowed into a group of motorcyclists taking shelter from a downpour near the Malaysian capital, killing three Indonesians and a Malaysian and injuring seven, news reports said Saturday.

The truck slammed into the group of 30 bikers waiting under a highway overpass on Friday, killing them instantly and leaving a trail of blood and motorcycle parts strewn over the road, the Malay Mail reported. The accident happened about 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Kuala Lumpur.

The vehicle dragged some of the victims 50 meters (165 feet) before stopping. The truck driver, a 32-year old Malaysian, tried to flee but passers-by caught and handed him to police, The New Straits Times newspaper reported.

Three of the dead were identified as Indonesian workers between the ages of 40 and 45 and the fourth is a 32-year old Malaysian. The seven injured were taken to a government hospital south of Kuala Lumpur.

Their condition was not immediately known.

Police said the driver may be charged with dangerous driving, which carries a prison term of up to five years.
