View Full Version : bike alarm
bandit May 14th, 2003, 04:59 PM guys,
what do you suggest for bike protection against theft. For scooters, the popular anti-theft is the installation of an alarm system but for big bikes, many have said that this is not advisable due to potential accidents if the engine seizes (electronic alarm failure) while running specially during cornering.
Need your advice on this because i've already heard a lot of bikes being stolen.
ryan May 15th, 2003, 01:28 AM Hi! I still have a Xena disc lock w/ alarm and I think its good for the bike since you dont have to mess w/ your bike's wiring.
Just pm me if youre interested. Thanks!
KaZmuT May 15th, 2003, 02:58 AM get it insured! get in touch with miguel. he's a good guy. Really affordable. hehehe kahit mawala... palit na lang :)
bandit May 15th, 2003, 10:06 AM kazmut,
how do i contact miguel? around how much would an insurance be for a szuki bandit1200 (1998)?
ryan,
i've sent you a pm
BIMMER40s May 15th, 2003, 02:59 PM I AGREE ABOUT THE INCREASED INCIDENTS OF MOTORCYCLES BEING STOLEN. I was a witness to a motorbike being loaded into a pickup truck in front of our office building in Alabang. SWAT was called in but was "too late a hero as usual".
I have installed in my BANDIT an alarm that has a remote starter, and also a starter disable once activated. It also has a panick button that would automatically shut off the engine and trigger the alarm. Good use when being stopped/carnapped!
I have not experienced that feedback you received about it having problems leading to accidents...
Now, you made me think twice about what I already have.
Can anybody enlighten us further about alarms and the safety risks it could cause. :?

depends on the total value of your bike. Pero standard has the lowest premiums and the agent is a true blue biker. Miguel can be contacted either here on the forum (username: miguel) or through his cellphone 09178984101.
Get insurance pare. accidents or theft happens. Better to be prepared.
alcuin May 16th, 2003, 01:55 AM sirei,
sounds like a great alarm. can i ask the brand? how much and where did you buy it? any problems with the electricals? thanks
BIMMER40s May 16th, 2003, 08:55 AM Alcuin,
Not sure about the brand. I have to check it out and let you know later.
I got it from CONCORDE, SM Southmall.
Have no problem on electricals (so far!!!)
I asked the services of a professional CAR ALARM installer to do it for me.... but I think Concorde guys also do installation for a fee.
ronaldfz1 May 26th, 2003, 03:21 AM saan nakakabili ng disc lock/alarm? magkano?
The Growler May 26th, 2003, 01:40 PM I'm also nervous about messing with electrics. I've had two car alarms/immobilisers locally fitted over the last few years and they have both given trouble: starting problems, faulty components etc.
It's a pain but I still go for chains that kind of thing. Of course if there are enough villains they can lift any bike into a truck if it's parked and then they can work on the electrics in their own good time. From what I've heard of these events I doubt even if an alarm would make much difference if they really want the bike -- are passers-by really going to get involved if it goes off?
Luckily a 600lb+ Harley isn't easy to lift into a pickup!
Wherever possible secure parking is a must. It's certainly comforting to park your heap next to the pay booth in the Ayala carparks for example and well worth the money.
Insurance is OK but in this country it takes forever while they argue about how to reduce your claim to as little as they can and make it as difficult as possible (I speak from experience where I have had to threaten to sue 2 insurance companies here for costs and loss before they paid up on legitimate claims). In UK insurance companies are legally obliged to return you to the position you were in before the claim. In the RP? In your dreams, you'll have to fight tooth and nail. Anyway insurance doesn't get your bike back.
At the end of the day I decided to rely on myself, good precautions, common sense and learning from others' experience. As I've described before that has so far repelled one attempt at low cost.
cal613 May 26th, 2003, 02:49 PM i dont post much but hope this helps...
like everyone has been saying, insurance is the best thing to do if you value your bike that much - which i think you do. when it comes to alarms, xena is pretty effective. i had sent one to my bro there in the Philippines. it gives a high pitch sound that makes the as$hole think twice before fooling with your bike. it also tells you to take out your disc lock before you ride. also it doesnt drain your battery. when it comes to electrical alarms, i had installed on my F4i (RIP) and now, on my z6xr a scorpio alarm. it hasnt failed me once. it doesnt give me any problems with regards to my electrical system. dont have to cut/splice any wires if you buy a factory harness kit specific for your bike - just have to connect it to the signal and tail lights and battery. the one i got was the one that pages you (given a decent range) if someone is messing with your bike. cutting any wires even the one connected to the battery triggers the alarm. other added items are the remote dissabling and perimeter sensor. it is pricy though, but if you do love your bike and comparing such cost with a stolen one, you probably may think twice. it starts around $200 to the top of the line which is $300.
sorry for the long post
for the site search on aritronix

I agree 100%.
While ALARMS are deterrents, they do not protect, and nothing is best than what has been said by THE GROWLER!!!
the lark June 21st, 2003, 02:29 PM i still go for the ever reliable, traditional chain. kahit medyo hassle but it's really safe. tie it to a post or something solid. pag nadala nila bike mo kasama pati poste ng meralco o bagsak pader na kinabitan mo:D
my bike is a wave alpha and i think it's similar with other cubs. my parang ring sa stand ng bike where you can place a 'KANDADO", as in kandado. when you put it, it can never be moved unless binuhat ang bike mo.
most important is find a safe place to park the bike.
ride safe=b
Dec June 21st, 2003, 07:42 PM Get a visible cable like KRYPTONITE. It's a lock AND cable rolled into one. Put it around the front tire and around the handle bar with the key socket on top of the instrument cluster so you won't miss it. It also is well insulated in cool colors (neon green, shock yellow, eye-popping fuschia) so it won't mar your bike's surface.
This is a great deterrent! Let the bikenappers see a trusted brand like KRYPTONITE, and they'll leave your bike alone.
A tip also is to park your bike in a highly visible area. Thieves will have second thoughts and walk away to find another hit.
For light bikes, tie the cable around something solid like a railing or something. It's hard to saw a railing believe me.
But to tell you honestly, if your bike is going to get stolen, IT WILL GET STOLEN so the best way is to insure it. Buy a bike that you can get a replacement of without any hitches like a bike being brought in regularly, legally and officially. Cases are when yes, you have your bike insured and gets stolen BUT you can't get the same model since the bike is not being brought in anymore. You have to settle for another ride which will take time to grow on you again!
The Philippines is prone to this since bike models come and go. Some bikes are just brought in at the sole whim of someone importing it. Not on a regular basis. Go for the Taiwanscoot, Chinascoot, Eurobike dealers/companies. I can't speak for the Japanese or American steeds since they are not imported on a regular basis. If your bike gets lost and its insured, you can get a replacement right away or maybe wait for but a few weeks for the next shipment to arrive. You can't go wrong.
Hope this helped.
:)
