Hello. Newbie here. I was at a mall today and saw a couple of stalls that sell stuff like toys, little electronic gadgets and... helmets (?!?!) They were marked "INDEX" and cost ~PHP 900. A couple of them were priced lower, PHP700. Are these real INDEX helmets or cheap chinese imitation hardhats?

no doubt they're knock-offs...

imitation lang po yun! madame nyan kahit sa SM department stores at Ace Hardware..kalimitan po ng imitation na Index at Shoei helmets hindi glossy yung color tapos pare-pareho nakalagay sa logo ma-pa Index o Shoei "The Best Quality Helmets"

the best way to be sure is to buy your helmet from authorized distributors....
as far as i know...DEKA in caloocan is the authorized dealer of INDEX helmets, while if you want a Zeus Helmet go to Action Hobbies or Motoworld....

dagdag ko na rin....watch out for those helmets being sold in the malls (SM, Handyman, ACE, etc)...these are definitely fakes....

yep... helmets & other safety gears are indispensable components of motorcycling. yung practice na ganito dapat nasa sistema na ng bawat isa everytime we ride. mura man o mahal, basta makaka protekta sa atin, GO!

anyway, just a thought for helmet buyers to consider...with the price tag of this Knock-off helmets being sold in the malls...you may be able to get a decent entry-level helmet from authorized local distibutors....just save a little more...it's worth the wait...

i have seen a full face helmet in a local tiangge (Unitop is the name) here in Cebu and costs about P400 plus...and you know what, the padding (styro) fell off from the helmet while it was still on display. hehehehe :O

bro...mas mahal pa pala dyan...yung unitop dito in cdo only sell those helmet for less than P400....kaya nga nakaka-awa yung mga riders that are mis-informed about the importance of MC helmets...they're putting themselves in danger using these things...on the otherhand, i guess they're are still a little better off compared to those people who refuse to wear one...

Quality helmet is a good investment.

hehehe... kakatuwa talaga sa UNITOP. anything you can find eh affordable. from needles to hlicopters yata me binibenta dun! i bought a plastic helmet with liner long time ago for just P95! tapos yung skateboard helmet na usually P400 sa mga bikeshops eh P180 lang! my 4-year old daughter uses it kapag naka floorboard ride sa scoot :D

NSCB is right... many are still unaware that there is such a thing as prescription helmets. and this is ought to be taken in consideration by our authorities. if they were able lodge a campaign for seatbelt awareness, am sure they can do the same with helmet awareness campaign as well.

right... better to have helmet than nothing. kung sana naman kase generally affordable ang mga DOT cert na helmets, am sure people will have a better safety edge.

yung tinipid nyo kasi sa helmet madadagdag din sa pampagamot ng head injuries nyo. Buy a good one, its worth the investment +full coverage insurance, just to be sure...RIDE SAFE

ang hirap lang talaga humanap ng index ngaun na hindi peke, lalo na sa katulad ko na hindi masyadong marunong tumingin ng kung anong peke at hindi na helmet... oo nga pala sa SM Bacoor ( CAR-TRUCK ) may mga (fake) index sila duon na kasing mahal ng orig na index.... halata nga lang talagang fake kasi kamukha ng katabing "shoei", he he he

How long have you been riding for? Don't ever buy a fake helmet. Don't even buy a plastic one at that:P you don't have to buy shoei, shark, arai, agv etc etc to get a good helmet(Actually some of their cheaper helmets may be pretty average)....you can get beut helmets for much less....

OGK seems to be a good model with more saftey certs than you can shake a stick at:P (Check out their ff4 model).....Also Roof which is a euro brand...pretty origanal looking lids good saftey etc.

I've heard Nitro helmets are pretty good...

Do your research...You only get one head as others may have pointed out

As the saying goes, "If its too good to be true....." It doesn't only apply to helmets.

Get a real helmet.... go for AGV original

The only authorized dealer in caloocan is DEKA... the others carry really cheap imitations. Graphics might give you the looks but the quality of the helmet will save you from unforseen circumstances.. the ones that are sold along 10th ave are super fakes and they are not cheap either.

You are better off...getting an index if you are on a budget. But if you are willing to spend some then get the ORIGINAL AGV

Its easy to know what is original and not....just visit the agv website at www.agv.com and you will see..

bro, actually some of those in the agv site is not yet released here in PI. and the only authorized dealer for agv is in pasay city, not caloocan.
