I have problems with my helmet shield vision at night and specially during rain. I don't feel I can trust it enough to see every obstacle specially with the glaring lights of cages.

How do you improve your visibility at night with your helmet shields? Do you apply some sort of toothpaste or cleaner to make it clearer? Or is there a special shield to be worn during nightime?

Right now, I just flip up my shield at nights to get a sure vision but it hurts my eyes after a long trip and I can't drive at a high speeds.

Index ang helmet ko. Wala pa naman gasgas. I just bought it 2 months ago sa Caloocan.

Maskman, use Joy Liquid Detergent but don't use a scouring pad for it or it will scratch. Liquid is best kasi walang powder na maka scratch. Most dishwashing past ay merong ash na naka scratch. A very clean surface doesn't cause water to bead (I learnt in Chemistry class), water droplets will just slide away. Sometimes Maskman, after using Joy, I just run the visor in the faucet vertically, left to right at pagkatapos, halos walang tubig na didikit sa visor.

If I ride in an afternoon rain or early evening, I use big clear goggles kasi tinted ang visor ko.

Yepp, the lenses are "disposable". They'll get scratched during use whether you you like it or not. If you feel that it's no longer safe to use, replace it with a new one. The prices are typically in the 600 to 800 bucks (HJC).

If I may add, get only the clear ones. If the sun's too bright during the day, wear sunglasses underneath. Never sacrifice night-time visibility for anything. The tinted ones are not meant for use at night. And if you open the shield to circumvent it, you'll run a risk of debris getting into your face and eyes.

mahirap ang dark na lens sa gabi... lalo na yung may mga fingerprints at smudges... kumakalat ang glare...na parang star... i opted to buy HJC helmet kasi yung lens nya ay scratch resistant at optically correct... i have two lens, isang clear at isang smoke... i use rain-x para dumudulas ang mga patak ng ulan... sa pampunas naman, ginagamit ko yung essilor... hindi sya nakakagasgas, ito rin gamit ko sa mga CDs ko at sa salamin ko sa mata.... kung mapapansin nyo may mga dumi na oil based na kahit anong punas nyo hindi na natatanggal, much worse nagsistreaking pa yung dumi, or pag tapos mong hugasan tapos punasan mo ng tissue or flanela ay ang daming maliliit na balahibo or lint... essilor lang katapat, dry and wet wipe sya, lint and scratch free, oil and water absorbent and 100% efficiency after many washes... designed sya for highly sensitive lenses such as microscope lens, camera lens, laser lens etc... can be bought at any optical shop... magcanvass kayo, dahil sa nagiging aware na ang optical shop sa usage nito, yung iba ay minamahalan na... bought mine at P50 pesos lang dati, ngayon sa iba P100 to P200 benta nila... yung isang essilor na nabili ko for use only sa eyeglass ko ay P75 bili ko sa vission express sa SM.

Hey guys, many thanks for your suggestions. Last night I drove from Quezon City to Baclaran at 3:00am. Hirap talaga ako sa shield ko, so I just flipped it up.

One more question: How do you keep your helmet shield from being scratch free and finger print free? Do you wipe it all the time? What cloth is best?

personally, i have 2 pairs of shields for my 2 helmets. clear & tinted. kung nightride, syempre yung clear gamit ko...

scratch prevention? i don't know. helmet shields, even the shell, are always prone to scratches. even fingerprints. we cannot just avoid it. always carry your helmet bag na lang so everytime you take your helmet off, into your helmet bag agad sya...

try mo yung CLEAR GLASS na brand or any glass cleaner which is ammonia based... cloth? flanel... or lampin ng bata :)

What I did was to clean it with water then apply ordinary toothpaste (yung walang crystals) to both the inside and out of the shield by rubbing it gently then rinsing it off again with water. Then I used an eyeglass cloth to clean it dry. I learned this from my scuba diving instructors. It prevents fogging the mask and also acts as a sort of water repellant and cleaner. Mabango pa.
I'm not sure if the "Rain X" repellant will work on our shields coz it's designed for glass windshields.

it is actually safe on motorcycle visors...

remember, most commercial vehicles' windshields are actually plastic derivatives, not purely glass...

nope... INDEX are actually economical helmets. they're priced same with their thailand competitors, CARTING & LEV3. mostly ranging from P1.5K to P3K... while INDEX has more models to choose from than CARTING and is more commercially available, i personally prefer CARTING.

re the topic... i keep 2 types of lenses. clear & tinted...
