ride impressions - iligan to dipolog/dapitan trip
--------------------------------------------
good day all.
i would like to share my impressions of the ride me and my wife
took from iligan to dapitan and dipolog last August 20 & 21.
we left iligan city on sunday at 9am and boarded the barge at
mukas/kolambugan for ozamis at 10am. left ozamis almost 11am
and had lunch at oroquieta, with a side visit to the aquamarine park
at tudela. arrived in dapitan around 3pm and, since there are more
pension houses near the beach here than in dipolog, booked our l
lodging here. did a quick trip to dipolog for church and to visit the
market (palit ug bulad nga gitugon sa mga officemates), then zipped
back to dapitan. the next day, we visited dapitan church and plaza
then toured the rizal shrine. left dapitan around 11am and had late lunch
in oroquieta again, and arrived at ozamis around 3pm. boarded the
barge for kolambugan and the ride back to iligan, arriving home 5pm.
the highway in lanao del norte between iligan and kolambugan is
mostly 2-lane concrete with some twisties between maigo and bacolod.
there are straight stretches more than a kilometer long near maigo.
a half-dozen bridges are under repair or undergoing upgrading so
you have to detour into the rough dirt road, carefully, if i may add.
road markings are adequate although you have to interpret the
kilometer posts (they used to be called mile markers :->) to know what
is the next town. although the concrete is adequate for high-speed
runs, i envy the folks in mis occ and zambo norte their blacktop runs.
the highway in misamis occidental between ozamis and sapang dalaga
is mostly a smooth 2-lane asphalt topped stretch with some twisties
outside oroquieta and around calamba. a few bridges are under repair
where you can use only one lane. road markings are good but still you
have to look at the kilometer posts and some highway signs for the
next town and its turn-off. the highway in zamboanga del norte is a
very smooth 2-lane asphalt topped stretch with a few twisties between
dapitan and dipolog. road markings are very good and reflectorized
signs every few kilometers show how far to the next 3 towns and
where the turn-offs are.
i just loved riding their asphalt highways, extraneous factors like
vibration from block joints/seams and small indentations/protrusions
are missing. the sensation of speed comes solely from the wind and
passing scenery, no road vibrations transmitted thru the handlebars,
footpegs or seat. for the first time i was able to hear the true sound
from my z200 motorcycle engine and found out there's a throbbing beat about once per second when the engine is cruising along at 6000 rpm.
very interesting...
before the trip, i gassed up just to be sure (half tank lang kay kulang
akong kwarta para i-full tank ug 20 liters :-> ) although it would not be
a problem because there are gas stations in every town. if you are
choosy about your gas, then you can fill up only in the big cities like
ozamis, oroquieta and dipolog where there are gas stations of all major
brands and grades. i use unleaded so i had to make sure since not all
gas stations carry unleaded. but anyway, i only used up about 12 liters
(around P500) on this trip which added 435 km to my odometer reading.
btw, the kolambugan-ozamis barge/ferry charge P50/motorcycle.
that's it then, i hope other riders will also their share experiences and
impressions on their rides around region X and neighboring regions.
