View Full Version : Leather Boots
Rage October 27th, 2003, 06:22 PM Hi All,
I have been using my caterpillar boots primarily as "bike gear" pero I was looking for a better alternative and as I was browsing the other threads, meron mga ok na boots specifically for riding kaya lang medyo mataas ang price. Kanina while on my way for a tune-up sa Pasig, I happen to pass by a leather shop along Pasig Blvd. and I saw some boots on display. I would have gotten a better look kaya lang "one-way" yung street:) kaya I'll probably drop-by ulit bukas just to inquire about the boot details (sana they offer steel-toe rin:))...
Post na lang ako dito kapag me details na akow...:)

Yun nga ang place!!! When will you check it out? Baka pede sabay tayo para kun sakali maka-discount at sabihin natin "marami pa tayong invite" na riders para mas maka-discount (referral discount something):)
Rage October 29th, 2003, 02:17 PM Hi All,
I was able to drop by at the Leather Shop at Pasig Blvd and was also able to talk with the owner. The price for midsize boot is Php 2,500.00 while those which goes as high as the knees would cost Php 4,500+...
He offers discounts for group orders and he also does saddlebags:) Btw, 1 week lang daw ok na yung "made-to-order"! I plan to have mine made within the next 2 weeks and have "steel-toe" inserted on the boots for safety (which would cost an extra Php 300.00).
Text me naman if any of you are planning to order para maya makasabay akow:) (0918-344-1612)
jarod October 29th, 2003, 08:19 PM rage bro!!! ok yun, but can you at least post a pic of the boot para naman marami maka-appreciate lalo. thanks! =)

Bro, having steel-toe boots is not recommended. In the event of a crash, the steel may crush your toes (instead of protecting them)...

Regarding steel-toed shoes, is there a repository of data concerning the hazards of wearing one while riding a bike?
I was just thinking; a tremendous force is required to collapse the steel that was designed to protect your toes. But logically speaking, applying the same force without the protection of the steel brace is equally crippling.
So IMHO, it follows that wearing steel-toed boots can protect your toes to some extent. But, when subjected to an impact or force strong enough, will injure your toes nevertheless, with or without the steel brace.
So does this justify wearing steel-toed boots?
Please correct me if you think otherwise.

I've read somewhere about this tip... Just passing it on...
I also observed that most road / race riding boots that are being sold today are "reinforced" as a whole boot and not only the toe area in particlular (in relation with the design of the whole boot) but none that has "steel-toe" protectors in particular (similar with construction work boots).
Steel-toe boots are designed primarily to protect the users feet from being injured by something falling on it (hence the protection for the toes)... but not for a motorcycle crash (with all the possible variables - twist/turn/crush/bend/etc :8) . It is possible for the steel toe protector to be severed from the rest of the boot and cause injury to the feet of the user (because of the basic design of the boot).
IMHO. :)
HTH. Im sure you can google the net and find other info ;)
Please post here na lang :D

Here's an excerpt:
When I bought my boots, I was debating between steel toe boots and plain leather boots. I picked steel toed, just in case. Look at what happened to my boot that was dragged under the bike. Imagine my toes if I had on tennis shoes. I guess I will continue to wear the full equipment when I ride. View damaged boot (http://www.myvulcan.com/archives/boot.html)
This is probably a special case and the guy was just pretty lucky. But then again, I guess the final decision to wear steel-toed boots lies with the rider.
Maybe the other guys can give their own experiences?

The shop's name is Toquero's Leather House. I'm still canvassing for cheaper alternative shop since medyo mahal pa rin nun pinakita ko yung gusto kong ipagawa (Alpinestar Tourer Goretex) na style. Will just post if I'll be finding any alternative or if I'll have my boots made is this shop:>

Each has his own opinion naman:)... And I've had my share of accidents and most of the time my CAT's and Wolverine's have saved my toes from becoming "longganisa":>
wrong wolf November 18th, 2003, 04:09 PM rage,
pagnapadaan ka ulit dun sa shop, tanong mo naman kung magkano kung saddlebags magpagawa. :)
Rage November 18th, 2003, 04:41 PM Wrong wolf,
Ano ba size ng bike mo? Kasi nung nagpa-quote ako sa blackhawk ko Php 6k+ daw... Merong nabanggit si Kazmut sa ibang thread na gumagawa sa Marikina ng bags na about Php 2k+ lang. I passed by last Sunday kaya lang sarado yung shop. I'll visit Marikina again this Friday tapos magpost na alng ako ng updates if I would be able to do so...:>
wrong wolf November 18th, 2003, 05:24 PM kasing size ng xing 150 o kaya ng eliminator 150/175 ang husky 150.
Rage November 18th, 2003, 05:47 PM Wrong wolf,
More or less we're of the same bike size... So more or less, same din ang price:>
wrong wolf November 20th, 2003, 07:10 AM ayan! hihintayin ko update mo. :D
Rage December 2nd, 2003, 03:05 PM WW,
Bro, parang 'nde bagay ang Leather saddles sa bike ko... S'yo baka bumagay (see attached) kaya I tried canvassing ang was sucessful enough to find an alternative to Leather which is fiberglass...
I'll check out pa naman yung fiberglass kung bagay din:)
Rage December 3rd, 2003, 09:02 PM Updates...
I passed by the Leather shop again sa Pasig Blvd. and presented my downloaded design (see attached) and the quote is...
Php 3,500.00!!! Pretty decent deal just to thick that the quote already includes the steel-toe.
I'll still go around Marikina if time permits so that I can still canvass but if time fails to be on my side, I think I'll take that offer at Pasig:)
littlebadboy December 4th, 2003, 05:16 AM in the picture of the pair of boots you shown, it has a special material on the shin areato protect it. i hope the leather shop you inquired at can include it in your customized pair of boots.
dude, the Gaerne Tempest at dreambikes costs only P4,200 before. it has shin protectors and very comfortable insides. it has a reflector thingy on the heel area too.
Clicky clicky here (http://www.gaerne.com/boot_tempest.html) for more info.
Here's a pic.
Rage December 4th, 2003, 01:51 PM LBB,
The dreambikes shops at North (somewhere in Fairview) and South (Alabang) has already closed... Any idea where else I could get 'em? When did you get yours (so that I may have an estimate on how much the price might be as of today):)
Any other suggestions? Alpinestar sana...
littlebadboy December 5th, 2003, 07:28 PM i got mine around middle of this year. i think dreambikes will be transferring to caloocan... read it somewhere... try caloocan sales and julian goitia.

When choosing boots, one has to consider protecting not only the toes but just as importantly, the shin and ankles. You also have to take into account the different kinds of forces acting on your leg or foot when you are sliding across the road or are thrown off your bike. These are much more different physical forces than say, a rock dropping on your toe. Steel toe boots were designed for a specific force acting on them. They were not designed for heavy lateral, twisting and dragging forces similar to those one might get from a motorcyle crash. The weight of the steel toe may actually be harmful as it would be heavy and might snap your leg instead of flowing with the forces acting on your leg. Look at the racing boots availabe and notice how, although they are reinforced, they are pretty light and nimble. This is so that they flex under the strain of a crash and still protect your legs and feet from serious injury. There are also street riding boots out there that offer almost the same amount of protection as racing boots do. I am sure you will be able to find good boots similar to the boots posted on this thread.
As a friend of mine learned the hard way... invest in a good pair of riding boots. Just like investing in a good helmet, gloves and jacket, etc. It is all part of the nature of riding a motorcyle. It comes with the territory. Investing in a motorcycle comes hand in hand with investing in good gear.
Don't regret later on what you could have prevented today.
Cheers. :)
