Arai Helmets has introduced nine new colors, graphic designs, and racer replicas to its top-of-the-line RX-7 Corsair model for 2004. Among them are new Racing Red and Aluminum Grey solids, new Nicky Hayden GP and Sete Gibernau racer replicas, and new Wraith Red and Wraith Blue colors for the extremely popular Wraith graphic introduced in 2003
Arai’s RX-7 Corsair is the latest incarnation of the company’s fabled RX-7 series. The original RX-7RR, initially brought to the market as a roadracing helmet, is credited with introducing top-mounted diffuser ventilation to motorcycle helmets. The Corsair is the first of the line to have a name instead of a numerical model designation, which Arai said is because of all of the Corsair’s improvements and updates over its RX-7RR4 predecessor.
Among the Corsair’s list of patented features is Arai’s newest SNC (Structural Net Composite) shell construction. SNC incorporates a structural net reinforcing material embedded between Arai's exclusive Super Complex Laminate construction layers to further improve shell integrity. The company says the SNC construction also allows more weight to be removed from the top of the shell, reducing helmet weight (the Corsair is almost three ounces lighter than the previous RX-7RR4) and lowering the center of gravity for better balance and reduced fatigue, resulting in improved rider comfort.
The Corsair’s “enhanced organic” shell shape was designed to conform more to the head’s natural shape for improved comfort and fit, and to further minimize the effects of wind turbulence. Other exterior features include a patented new Dual-Pivot Chin Vent which increases airflow capacity in two positions: the first position sends air directly to face; the second position directs air to the shield for improved de-fogging. Working in conjunction with a new Breathguard design, the vent also channels more fresh air to the inside surface of the shield while at the same time diverting hot breath down and away from the shield surface.
The Corsair also has Arai’s latest Type-8 Diffuser design with redesigned and improved intake and exhaust ports to both improve airflow and reduce wind turbulence. It also has larger 10mm diffuser holes (increased from 7.8mm on the previous RX-7) to move even more air. The Delta-3 top center intake scoop is claimed to collect more air to further improve interior airflow.
Inside, the Corsair is the first Arai helmet to feature its latest Dry-Cool® liner material. Dry-Cool actually utilizes micro water cells to improve moisture and heat transfer from the head into the airflow around Arai's innovative Space Frame Liner. The result is said to leave the rider’s head dryer and cooler at the end of a long or hot ride and also allows the liner to dry much faster between rides.
The Corsair retains the RX-7 series’ fully-removable, washable liner and pull-down air spoiler. Like all Arais, it is handmade, and has a full Five-Year Limited Warranty an industry-leading Arai feature for the past 11 years.
Available in sizes XS to XXL, suggested retails for the RX-7 Corsair range from $667.95 to $796.95.
