ive heard there are numerous FAKE spark plugs out there. most of them NGKs. are there many fake Denso's in the market?

how do i tell if the plug is fake? NGK resistor types, Denso type.

if i cant spot the difference i might go for the Iridiums. which i think has less fakes.

Yes, fake spark plugs are rampant nowadays. The Philipppine distributor of NGK plug has placed a seal on each box.

SEAL says "Imported by SGC" an oval sticker with NGK logo.

They will be replacing the seal soon to another one. i will post a pix of the sticker seal for eveyone's info.

you still have the box? Check the seal. Only the NGK imported from us by the Philippine distributor has the local distributor seal on it.

Buying from a reputable store doesn't guarantee that you're getting the ORIGINAL parts or accesories.

There was this time that I bought a Daytona Oil Filter from a well known store in Caloocan. But when it was time to change THAT filter, I scratched the black paint while removing it with a filter wrench. To my surprise, it was a VIC filter you can buy at any auto supply store for only about 1/5th of the price I paid for. The cheap filter was painted over and packaged in a Daytona box.

I'm not pointing fingers here, the store owners may or may not even know that they are selling FAKES! I'm just saying that you be your own judge when buying, be vigilant.

at least they should look out for their clientele as they would be the first to be blamed if they are indeed selling fake items, even if unknowingly!

just checked my CR8EH-9's which i bought late last year (i need a new set of plugs). they seem to be old stock originals. old stock because they are color GOLD, i think most NGKs are now SILVER in color. cheking the post of oj88 it seems that my plugs are original, 4 digit number is present (M117 is stamped), tightened gasket is present, stamp of place of origin is present (JAPAN is stamped) and smooth surface is present.

im still skeptical because the plating of the plug body (GOLD) is chipped. are the plating of the plug body supposed to chip?

**The previous plating used on NGK plugs was hexavalent (gold colored). Due to environmental issues, NGK has changed the plating to trivalent (silver colored). The purpose of the plating was to prevent corrosion on the plugs. The new plating actually is better at corrosion protection.

The problem arises in that the newer coating does not make the plugs as easy to read in racing applications using alcohol.

According to the NGK engineers and the techs, it is still possible to read these plugs. While the older plating made reading extremely simple, they say the seasoned racer/tuner will quickly learn the nuances of the new plugs and be reading them as well.

To our knowledge the older plated plugs are gone from inventory, we cannot control which type you will receive, (plan on getting the newer coating).

If you have difficulties reading the newer plating, contact NGK's official U.S. website at You can see links before reply , additional technical info and contact info may be available.

IMHO, there is a good chance that they aren't fake. Our company supplier FORD Phils with the OEM plugs in a FORD box although the plugs are NGK BKR5E with the Ford logo. These are specially re-labelled plugs for FORD's OEM use and aftersales.

If you bought the CR8EH-9 in the middle of last year, they are still the gold color types. The silver plating was released at NGK Japan factory only July 2002. And as GShoCK informed us this was implemented by NGK for improvement of the quality of the plug and mainly "Due to the Enviromental issue"

There it is on the leftside of the box. Color red with NGK logo and "Distr. by SGC" That is the old seal that they are using. The Philippine distributor during our last meeting with them made a new design that has the embossed print, using a foil like chrome colored sticker material.

I will post the pix of the new seal for everyone's information
