for the street! yes it has Malossi & Polini parts fitted on the engine plus it also has received several mods to increase power output while only using stock pipe.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20001.jpg

as you can see in the link medyo magaspang yung bare casting ng crankcase ng Typhoon di naka match sa ports ng MHR 172cc kit but i will soon change all that.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20002.jpg

eto ang top view ng intake ng Piaggio maxiscooter engine it's considered very small for a 172cc engine conversion & there little we can do to change it kasi naka VL11 reedvalve lang sya. but it's the inside of the engine where most of the work will be done to improve airflow.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20003.jpg

the Malossi RHQ crankshaft for Piaggio engined maxiscooters (Runner, Dragster, Typhoon, Skipper) very high quality piece of hardware but also with price to match MAHAL!!! kaya kasi nagpalit ng crankshaft dahil napudpod yung spline ng driveshaft sa crank kulang pala sa spacer yung vario kaya kahit mahigpit na yung nut eh loose pa din yung vario kaya ayun nasira. :( very expensive lesson learned.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20004.jpg

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20005.jpg

eto yung magneto side ng crankcase after working on the internals, can't give specific details pero this helps the big engine breathe & produce more power than a standard bolt-on basically port-matching lang sya but taken one step further.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20012.jpg

Polini Speed control variator pulley galing kay MikkoRacing ang ganda nito sa personal sa tracks ng rollers malayong-malayo kesa stock kaya sigurado dudulo pa ito kesa dati. it came with 15.8 x 3 (green) & 14.8 x 3 (red) rollers grabe ang bigat nito more than 91grams total. buti may extra 9.5grams Malossi rollers yung may ari. stock pa din ang spring nito & naka malossi kevlar belt.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20007.jpg

here's the transmission side of the crankcase with the Malossi crank installed, same as the work done on the other halve of the crankcase to improve flow inside the crankcase.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20008.jpg

here is the Malossi crank fitted into the crankcase, compare nyo sa unag pic ng crankcase match ported na yung crankcase sa cilinder kit ang gandang tingnan noh? :D

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20009.jpg

the malossi 172cc kit after some smoothening & resizing of the ports, ang hirap dukutin ng transfer ports ang lalim! buti na lang may extra long diamond grinding burr ako. :D

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20010.jpg

eto shot sa loob ng block sa may gawi ng exhaust port, mas nilakihan ko ito kas very restricted pa rin ang mga malossi 172cc kits dito i raised & widened it a bit so it can breathe better at higher rpms while not sacrificing torque.

http://upload.0wn3d.dk/billed/typhoon%20011.jpg

eto pa yung shot ng exhaust port sa labas, this time i also enlarged the outlet to match the area inside the cilinder, nilakihan ko din yung inside diameter ng header pipe, by how much i can't say pero it's huge to accomodate the 172cc displacement.

i will update this in the future with more pics pag naisoli na yung digicam namin, inform ko na lang kayo tomorrow kung ano lagay sa testing i can't wait. :D

sa rollers nagsimula ako sa 14.8g x 3 & 9.5g x 3 medyo hiyaw ng konti yung makina so adjust ako 15.8g x 3 & 9.5g x 3 medyo nag-improve pa yung acceleration high torque engine kasi so i tried increasing the rollers even further, 15.8g x 2 & 14.8g x 2 & 9.5g x 2 (80g total) mas gumanda pa din ang acceleration walang bog down sa umpisa, i will try increasing weights to see if it will improve further but i must admit parang nanghihingi ng gear kit ito. ubos yung akyat ng belt sa vario pati rollers sagad ang travel sa tracks ganda talaga ng Polini vario. :D

Wolver,

no idea kasi sira yung speedometer pero i'm guessing 20 to 25km/1L kung behave ka magpatakbo, expect to get lower mileage pag hataw ka magride sa byahe.

so average ka ng 22.5km per liter, bah ok na yan for a 172cc scoot.

just came home from eating "lugaw" (congee) from the neighboring town on Belecoy's Typhoon ang sarap i stroll pitik-pitik lang sa thrttle mabilis na cruising speed, i feel it can run all day basta ganun lang ang revs at pag oovertake na jus give it a little more gas effortless overtaking ang bilis ng acceleration makes me feel like riding a 400cc 4stroke big bike. :D

kaya ko kasi madalas gamitin dahil under observation ito, iuuwi kasi ni Belecoy sa baguio ita-travel lang daw nya yung Typhoon so i need to iron out the bugs mukhang ok naman yung setting sa carbs & i feel nothing worng with the engine, one thing i would like to improve here is the brakes ang HINA talaga para sa performance ng makina.

btw here's the run down on what's on his hyperscoot check it out;

Malossi 172cc (65mm) cylinder kit (Overrev tuned)
Malossi RHQ crankshaft pin14
Malossi VL11 reedvalve
Malossi kevlar belt
Polini Speed control vario
Keihin PE24 carb
Denso IW27 spark plug
tuned crankcase
tuned stock pipe
stock rear pulley
stock clutch
stock springs

kung papalitan pa ng gearing ito it will improve top speed but will sacrifice a bit of acceleration but it will have better fuel economy, for long rides & touring nothing will beat a tuned maxiscooter, torque monster set-up is really fun on the street. :D

Modular Overrev,

It is good to here that you now have a Typhoon. I had my Typhoon since 1998 and it is my favorite among my scooters.

I have some tip in modification. As for the variator, try putting the on for the Gilera Runner 180. Diameter is alittle bit bigger but you have to fit a longer belt. The malossi on will do, which you now have.

As for the crankshaft, put also put the one for the Gilera Runner. The diameter of the counterweight is bigger. It will just slight touch some portions of the crankcase, but you can easily fix it. It will give a higher primary compression, maybe even better than the Malossi crankshaft whose crankshaft counterweight diameter is the same as the Typhoon original.

I do strongly recomment the Malossi gearing. Your engine now have enough torque, don't worry that it would get flat in the midrange. It won't.:) :) :)

the Typhoon isn't mine though it's Belecoy's he just took the scooter in for crankshaft, vario replacement & tuning modifications they messed up the stock crank & vario big time & needed replacing, the vario lacked some spacers so even if they tightened down the nut on the vario the outer half pulley was still loose & they didn't notice it.

Belecoy reported that it had a cruising speed of 100kmh with stock gearing which's pretty fast & the motor sounded real lazy when he was doing it, he was amazed at how much or little throttle input that was needed to maintain that cruising speed. it only consumed 3liters of gas from Gapan city Nuieva Ecija to Paniqui Tarlac & that is around 100kms distance not bad for a 172cc tuned scooter. :D

i wouldn't mind owning a typhoon though it's the 2nd time a rode one with a Malossi kit, the first typhoon scooter i rode was also malossi 172cc kitted during my stint in manila working for a bike shop. since it's so much cheaper to build a 172cc maxiscooter like the typhoon i was thinking of finding a wrecked skipper get the engine & mount it on a Honda G frame & mod the hell out of the engine with Polini & malossi parts, this would give the 125cc Honda scooter a big headache. :O

btw there's Fabrizi 210cc stroker & big bore kit for the Piaggio maxiscooter engine i wonder how fast it can go in a lightweight frame?

Test rode the Typhoon last night, what a power, yung nga lang medyo may katigasan ang suspension at yung soft bukol sa stretch ay parang malaking hump ang pakiramdam nung nadaanan ko ng 80+kph.:D

Pagnaka center stand, at bibigatan ko yung likod, pagdapo nung rear tire, may konting twist yung buong engine counter-clockwise, magtitwist sya ng konti pag naka tingin ka sa likod nya, upod na yata engine bushing, Modular may mabibili kaya from you na bushing nun? O kaya compatible sa ibang brands?
