as quoted from Motorcycle Magazine........"Geared-up riders get more respect on the road..........".......i toally agree with this........di lang po safety advantages naidudulot sa atin........dahil na rin sa worsening road conditions & treatment sa bikers ng mga cagers, i think makakatulong ito ng malaki....di lang sa sarili maging sa pangkalahatang impression sa atin na not all 2 wheel riders are pasaways or road irritants:):):)

Well said guys! For me malayo man o malapit always wear your gear, mas mahal pa ata ang pa hospital kaysa sa gear. Think twice dude, when you fall talagang masakit.

worsening road conditions

add mo na ang cagers, people, and animals...
full battlegear all the time kaso elbow/knee pads pa lang, saka na yung full featured.

at kung nakafullgear ka ndi ka nagmumukhang pasaway na rider... a rider should always value his safety all the time since he is exposed to all the elements. malapit man yan o malayo. pwede rin kahit d ka mabilis pano kung sinagasaan ka, or ndi ka nakahelmet may tumae na ibon sa ulo mo? hehehe joke lang... hehe

+1 ride with the right gears..not only you get respect from other drivers, you increase your chance of not getting bad injuries!

Kung kaya natin bumili ng bike and accessories to make it look great, we must prioritize our safety first! This is actually a common mistake among riders, inuuna natin ang pag pogi ng bike kesa safety.

And oh btw, did i mention, if you are in full gears, those are extra points that is if you are a poser, hehe! Cheers!:O

even sa mata ng law enforcers....iba ang dating when you're properly geared up......expi ko yan sa Qurino Ave pauwi kami from our ride sa Tagaytay....around 7am w/ PSRC-NCR Pres. Pixel & Jackhammer.........meron checkpoint pagtawid ng Taft Avenue on the way to nagtahan bridge.....all motorists were flag down & checked........mga motorcycle riders.....pinatitigil at hinahanapan ng papers lalo na yung mga nakatsinelas lang at nakashorts......but in our case, they just took a glimpse on us & let us pass by w/ any hassles or delays...hehehe:):):)

i second this experience.
i was coming from rizal via east road and a checkpoint was stopping all bikes (but i saw UBs only... taytay/cainta is UB country, i believe)... i raised by visor while cruising the CP & was waved out courteously. then, upon reaching Ateneo, another checkpoint and i saw 5 UBs, so i courteously cruised, hoping they'd flag me down but i just got a nice wave and off i went.

the riders were ALL in t-shirts, some with helmets, others are merely with their heads (that are probably not screwed right anyway)... no protective gears at all, not even shoes for many of them.

i'm not undermining or picking on smaller bikes, but hey, these are the MOST BIKES nowadays and obviously easy site for law-enforcers, add to that the many who don't wear ANY protection at all.

wear helmets, leather shoes & gloves - i think these should be the minimum - riding far or just the next corner, not much difference when you fall... shin guards and other armors are absolutely good and should be the next scheduled purchase, followed by riding jackets and real riding boots; of course the other armors can be used when wearing light clothes because of summer, otherwise, always were those riding jackets.

my thoughts.

i have to say "agree" again for the nth time......not only do we feel safe, we get the respect from other motorists. like what EZD stated, even if its just around the corner, minimum na natin dapat yung helmet and gloves.

as for me, its going to be a 4 km. ride to work lang starting April, too short di ba? pero we can never tell. a spill is a spill......a bump is a bump......safety gears really count even if its just a 5 minute ride. kaya ako, going back to riding means researching on the best riding gears, bought a good helmet already, susunod ko na yung gloves, shoes at iba pa.

Ok, that's all nice. But say you work for a call center, and M-Th, you're OBLIGED to wear office clothes. Fridays and onwards, you can dress down. Any suggestions?

Yup, Men in full uniform do get respect from most folks... So I suppose Riders with full gears do get the same treatment as well... as opposed to the riders with fool gears (walang suot, maski na helmet)! :O

hi KR, i've been wondering the same thing since i started riding and all i got to was like a total wardrobe change if i insisted on using my bike going to work, client visits, or meetings. but some things should remain the same: HELMET, GLOVES, RIDING BOOTS, LEATHER/RIDING JACKET. pants are denims that goes well with sport shirts or short-sleeved polo shirts... the thing is, with those gears on top, you're bound to wrinkle/crease your shirt and perspire a lot, too, thus, you'll need an extra; then you'll need something to remove the smell of the streets, like cologne or perfume, so you need a bag to carry those 'extras'...

i've read a lot of buddies here who are quite successful combining bikes and work clothes; they'd do this even if it's rainy season:clap:, they'd be the ones who can tell us more about dressing-down and riding our bikes... however, i just can't successfully combine 'barong' or 'trubunized shirt + ties" and non-denim pants with my bike... i don't feel comfortable, & it just ain't right (for me).

so, i either take a taxi or take my car if i had client meetings or business deals, otherwise, if i really want to ride my bike and the client had been known to me for quite long, i'd swing a meeting in coffee shops or places where i can take my bike (and enjoy the ambiance, too):*

i guess not much help here

it's just me.

Any suggestions?not only for call center workers.......i do wear office uniform from Mon to Thurs.....a good suggestion is to wear a descent mesh jacket but not too eye-cathing like the Joe Rocket Rio...... w/ sando or any undershirt inside....fold ur office uniform(barong) in your bag....then you may use an external Knee & shin guard below:)

a good loose bright colored (orange, sky blue, etc) overall could be very useful, you can gear up under neath whatever slacks and shirts you wear (polo shirt, barong <long or short sleeve), galing pa ng dating mo bro, pagdating sa office, just get out of the over all and fold it and placed it in your locker or bag or hang it and spray some additional perfume and roll on for pogi points and you are instantly ready to start your work, don't forget the comb to style your hair (hehehe), gud luck and safe ride bro, gear-up no matter what.:) :O

Bro, i travel from fairview to makati on a daily basis - rain or shine, and M-TH are a combination of Long Sleeves and Barong days. On an excellent weather condition, i may opt to use my office pants with knee and shin guard on top (kailangan lang matuto kang magfold ng pants so it won't crease), and a sando plus elbow protector underneath my riding jackets. The rest of my office attire goes to my backpack. On a gloomy/rainy day, all my office attire goes to my back pack.
What's in my backpack: My office gears, extra undies, extra socks. I ussually leave my ofice shoes in my locker.
Plus the trick is, and this is very important : You have to be in earlier than everybody else so you can change. Your office mates will be dumbfounded - you'll be subjected to questions like : How'd you do it? You rode on that barong? :s

also, from the office going home yesterday, while waiting for the stoplight to turn green, a fellow rider said: "Balot na balot tayo sir ha." I don't know how to take it in. is he being sarcastic or is it a compliment. anyway, my answer was "minsan lang tayo matsambahan sir, mas maganda na yung handa." the lights turned green and i went ahead.
i hope i made a positive impression on the rider - i was wearing a knee/shin guard, an elbow protector plus my riding jacket.

I ride from Bacoor to UN Avenue and back to Ayala Avenue in the morning and the reverse in the evening everyday.

Yung mga familiar sa road from Baclaran to Aguinaldo highway ... alam kung gano kainit, gano ka-inconvient at nakaka-hiyang mag-full battle armor along this road. One time, I was wearing a Fox Body armor with red trimmings and red gloves ... yung mga nag-titinda sa Bacoor Market ay nagsigawan nang "Spiderman!!!"

Pero going back. I never ride my bike without a helmet, elbow+knee+shin guards and gloves kahit na malapit lang puntahan ko. Kasi statistically, 70% of accidents happens within 1KM of your house or place of work.

Here is my gear:
R.Evolution Modular Helmet (DOT Approved)
Fox Body Armor
Komine Padded Jacket (yung may chest protectors besides sa standard paddings)
Scycoco Knee+Shin Guards
Knighthood Gloves
Zeus Tank bag (I consider this a safety gear. Think about it)

Medyo nag-iipon pa po ako to get a:
Leather gloves with knuckles
Motorcycle boots
Additional Knee+Shin guards

My original budget was one body armor then motorcycle boots pero dahil nga po sa I ride everyday ... I opted na 2 armors that I alternate.

Before my MC, I go to work wearing leathers shoes, slacks and long sleeves.. pero nung mabili ko MC ko, bili na rin ako ng gears.. Jacket, gloves, knee/elbow pads and riding shoes.. ngayon problema ko di ko na nagagamit leather shoes and slacks... laging naka-riding shoes na ako. saka denims... I feel safer kasi pag kumpleto gears na suot ko..

ang gears ko nga pala:

Zeus 508w gloss black
helm star knuckled gloves
scoyco knee/shin and elbow guards
pole position full body armor (for long rides)
red 21 back protector backpack

planning to buy:

mesh jacket
extra knee/shin and elbow protector
extra helmet for the backride (wifey)

Pagtanggal ng gear (my gear right now is a riding jacket, gloves, and of course helmet), pawis na ako niyan pero diretso pa rin ako sa office instead na mag-CR para mag-refresh. :D ).

Thanks for the input, guys. See, THIS is the exact reason why this organization sets itself apart from other groups. Willingness to help, and camaraderie. I guess I'll go with DrakX's suggestion. Plus in a call center, it's expected of you to be at least 2 hours early before the shift. So let's see, What's a good backpack to invest in? Something light and capacious preferably.

I dunno. Those kinds of comments would simply make me laugh. They don't even seem remotely offensive to me. I'd probably reply with "Mahirap na eh.", or "Sawa na kasi akong mag-mukhang tocino eh." or whatever would make them laugh back in return. I dunno. Just my 2 cents.

I gear up for my own benefit. Dressed up for the fall and not for the ride. Whatever is added, like respect, after wearing my gears is just added pogi points. Pero the primary concern to wear your gears is for your safety and protection from injury.

My 2 centavos po!

ha ha ha....nakakatuwa talaga yung mga comment na ganyan especially sa mga full-geared riders....pero you know what bro's, i was once one of them...nung hindi pa ako biker....let me tell you a story....

years back on the way to boracay may mga nakasabay akong grupo sa ferry all in full-gears...sabi ko wow lufettt....parang extreme skating....sabay tawa.....but when i saw them again disembarking from the ferry, sabi ko siyettt lufettt.....ang gaganda ng mga motot - all liter bikes from Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, and BMW - napahiya ako sa sarili ko.....it was a waking point on my awareness. Those riders left a positive impression on me!

I used to work in makati and during coding days, i normally commute with my bike from bulacan, I just change clothes pag dating ko sa opisina. I see to it I have extra clothes sa office pampalit. If you have a shower like we do, its a lot better, refresh ka pag pasok mo.

You can do the same, prevention is better than cure!
