your steering damper is your "anti bitch slapp",or tank slapper ,(that's the OH-****-MOMENT in riding bike when you're speeding, then run into just even a small pot hole or a stone or after doing wheelie then your front wheel strts shakin frm side to side like a bi-atch from newark....then you remember you need Mr.Ohlins , one of the best in the market when pimping your valuable bling-bling bike. But enough of that, maybe you need to go to the dealer/service where you bought your beast so they can tame it for you like adjusting the suspention according to your height and weight( the travel of the forks, pre load, etc,) all these will make you bike a totally defferent awsome handling bike....i bet right now it rides like a cruiser, where rear sits down, front goes up...stirs slower than it should..but to set this up, needs three persons( at least one who knows what he's doin) one sits on the bike, that's you! one that holds the bike, and one that takes the measurements...that would be the best thing you can do for your bike, forget about pipes or horse power,,what matter most is...you guest it, predictable handling.

Suspension is by far the most important item when it comes to handling. Suspension settings can be understood by dividing them into three main sections: Spring Pre-Load, Compression and Rebound.

In order to adjust any of the three, it is necessary to begin by measuring the static sag set. Static Sag is the amount of travel of the suspension at stand still, taking into consideration the rider's weight and gear. 20-25 mm is the aproximate setting for the the track, and 25-30 for the street. Some very specialized companies can provide settings very close to the optimum level - usually within one click from the perfect point - once they have the rider's weight including gear.

Spring Pre-Load. As the name implies, spring pre-load has to do with the springs. Springs on stock bikes have a tolerance of about 5%. This means that for heavier riders, the stock suspension doesn't allow for enough adjustment. Installing custom springs will allow you to obtain a closer setting according to your weight. The nuts on top of the forks (blue nuts on the picture below) are used to adjust the spring pre-loads.

Compression. Compression is achieved by adjusting the amount of fluid that flows through the fork. In order to obtain different settings, accessories such as valve emulators are installed. These valve emulators are comprised of the actual valve and a set of valving shims that should be stacked according to the weight of the rider and static sag. The oil that flows through the valves has to be of high quality. Usually companies that sell these accessories provide special oil along with the valves and shims. Following is a picture of Gold Valve Emulators by Racetech ™.

Rebound. The rebound adjuster is found at the top of the forks. It is the screw in the center of the spring pre-load adjuster. The rebound adjuster is used to either restrict the oil flow (firmer rebound) or to allow more flow (for softer rebound).
