View Full Version : Riding Gloves
john76 August 3rd, 2005, 10:48 AM Guys i've got a pair of iicon gloves which I use(must) on trips with my CB400 specially when i'm on the expressway or on long trips. Among the safety gears that I use the glove is the only thing that I don't feel comfortable using. It seems that I can't get the grip, the feel and to me, it could be more dangerous riding with gloves than with my bare hands.
Are there real thinner gloves and yet can still provide the necessary protection?
boylit August 3rd, 2005, 12:53 PM look for kangaroo skin gloves. the one i have is a lot thinner than the other gloves i tried. i'll try to take a pic and post it.
the only downside is that they're more expensive than some mesh riding jackets.
john76 August 3rd, 2005, 01:02 PM Thanks Bro, would appreciate too if you can let me know where to buy this.
boylit August 3rd, 2005, 01:04 PM easiest would be online but you might want to try access plus or caloocan sales. they might have some or might be able to order for you.
i got lucky and found a pair locally that "fits me like a glove" (pardon the pun)...
john76 August 3rd, 2005, 01:36 PM Flavored Strawberry? hehehe
Wish I can find something as thin as the glove I use for golfing.
boylit August 3rd, 2005, 01:53 PM golf glove thinness. that would be a nice set of gloves, if there was one. but i don't know how long they'd last scraping across cement or asphalt.
just an aside... what do you mean you can't get good grip/feel?
john76 August 3rd, 2005, 03:29 PM Well Bro, I think it's more physcological than what I really felt on the grip. The leather seems to have folds in between(i've tried other gloves too). It seems I have to squeeze quite hardly to ensure i'm really holding to the grips.
I know it's a matter of getting used to it but I would still search for that thinner one.
boylit August 3rd, 2005, 04:19 PM Uhhhh... Maybe the gloves aren't the problem...
You're not supposed to be sqeezing the grips... There should be just about enough pressure to allow you to work the controls and countersteer but that's it. With your bike, you should be able to ride even at a fairly fast clip even if you're just using your thumb and index finger to operate the throttle (of course, you'll have to use more to operate the clutch and brake but that's beside the point).
As for the folds, are they in the palm area or fingers? are your gloves fitted well? loose gloves will bunch up...

sir i hope this will help you with your problem coz i have experienced that also, i switched to gloves that i think are for motocrossers they are more thinner but still with the standards of protection of what a gloves should be, for me i feel comfortable with it. i now have a greater feel with my grips.
ride safe always  !
Tat August 4th, 2005, 03:07 AM Ako I use training gloves... :D 'Ya know.. the one they use in the gym when doing weight lifting. Grip is good and makapal ang leather. By the way, I prefer them because I don't want full-hand gloves. I prefer half-gloves where your fingers are exposed for better grips. And I find my hand more useful like when using my cellphone. I know that it makes my hand half vulnerable when I crash, but then again, it gives me more reason to be more careful when riding. :)

I second demotion :C
john76 August 4th, 2005, 12:56 PM Thanks mga Bros for the advices.
I think my gloves just fits snugly but by just clenching your fist, folds will develop normally as the leather is quite thick and this is where I really feel uncomfortable. I have used the half glove during my trailbike days and indeed there was no problem with me. But to use that(or the training gloves) on colder times at the expressway would really give you a shiver on your fingers. I think golf glove would suffice my necessity although I have to sacrifice a bit of safety. You can be assured that it really gives a good grip otherwise my club would have flown with the ball. And it's leather at a cheap price! You can buy a piece of glove for only P220. Golfers use 1 piece only so you have to buy both for left and right handed. It's available at Proline.

Downside lang ng half-finger gloves (is that what it is called?) ay hindi magiging pantay ang skin color mo sa daliri sa matagalang gamit. Once I used a mesh type glove, katagalan nakita ko kamay ko may mga brown spots.
Can anyone recommend?
Tat August 5th, 2005, 01:38 AM I think 'ya right... haha! :O

noelnash August 5th, 2005, 06:02 AM I just bought a pair of gloves at ACE HArdware. It is labeled as Ladies Gardening gloves (size M) so the design is for slimmer hands. Material is made of goat skin, thinner than COW skin and reportedly sturdier according to its advertisement in the documentation. It is full fingered and much thinner than my ELEVO Riding gloves. I find it comfy for the first time use and plan to use it some more until it will fit properly on my hand. Price is PHP 250 discounted. Original price is PHP 399.
For rainy days use, I use a half fingered gloves that is leather on the palms and stitched cotton at the back of the hand. I switch to the full-fingered gloves when the weather is dry.
tukayo August 5th, 2005, 08:17 AM Same thing with me Noelnash, I use a half-fingered glove with leather palms and the back of the hand is mesh-type. Are there rainproof gloves in the market in the 1K-2K price range?
wasted_23 August 5th, 2005, 09:22 AM i use joe rocket phoenix gloves. it's like a second skin kasi, i can still feel the grips when i ride.(hirap lang mag text pag suot:D)
john76 August 5th, 2005, 10:56 AM Mga Bros, if you are still wondering which might fit best at a reasonable price, try the golf gloves(kulit no!). But seriously, just like the riding gloves it also has a velcro lock to insure a snug fit on your palms and wrist. Brands such as Proline and Top Flite are the reasonably priced at P220 each(average). And since golfers does not stop playing during rains, it also performs well on wet conditions. Available in colors of Black, Blue and White. Try visiting Proline stores at the SM malls, Alabang Town Center, Festival Mall, Glorietta, etc.
artworks_sa September 7th, 2005, 05:55 PM Fox gloves. Expensive but excellent!
jpmadrigal May 7th, 2006, 12:44 AM Seen a nice and inexpensive globes from bangkok. will get you details. I intend to get some pairs show to friends and hobbyist. lito
helon2wheelz May 20th, 2006, 11:17 AM What kind of ICON gloves do you have. There are thinner ICON gloves like this one. This kind of gloves are called summer gloves. meron butas para maka pasok ang hangin.
tigger May 29th, 2006, 04:06 PM Bro just remember, as long as its full fingered and its leather your good to go. Don't get confused, it will never that comfortable. Even my pair of Alpinestars gloves gets annoying sometimes, but you are wearing gloves for function and for mishaps. You can't control the drivers around you. Have you ever seen someones fingers looking like hamburger meat after a simple crash? Full fingered leather preforrated gloves is what you need. Motorcross gloves does'nt work against asphalt or concrete. I hope you listen before its too late. "Ang pagsisisi ay laging nasa huli"
doomzday May 29th, 2006, 04:13 PM hi guys...have a problem with my right hand which aches too much during long rides. is it the gloves? i'm using a topline riding gloves and it fits well. should i change it?
cancer54 June 1st, 2006, 09:06 PM I think it's just a matter of getting used to wearing gloves. Like wearing a helmet for the first time. I use my scuba gloves(synthetic leather Tusa 1.4 k pesos)on my rides, pero haghahanap ako ng murang mc gloves. Golf gloves are to thin to provide protection in case of a spill.
PAG GUSTO, MAY PARAAN...PAG AYAW,MARAMING DAHILAN!:D .
docjun June 2nd, 2006, 01:08 AM I agree with c54 completely, i guess it,s a compromise between comfort and protection. And when both are present it usually comes at price. Hey doomz, if your gloves fit well, and by that imean it's not too tight, then that cold be arthritis. Usually if it's the fingers it's rhuematoid, then again it could just be strained tendons due to ill fitting gloves or plain and simple fatigue.
wasted_23 June 2nd, 2006, 08:13 AM same when i first used my joe rocket gloves. ansakit sa kamay. to the point na nagkaron ng blister ang 2 thumbs ko. pero after a couple of rides, ok na.
