View Full Version : Riding Gears (Safety Gears)
donski August 1st, 2005, 02:14 PM My fellow XPhils members,
Can you please post here the safety gears that you bought, how much and where did you purchase it? I believe as a newbie, one of the life saving investments to make, aside from acquiring skills training for road safety and motorcycle maneuvers, is on the area of safety gears.

spectralknight8 August 2nd, 2005, 10:50 AM I got my Zeus 990 and Komine JK405 Mesh jacket from action hobbies.
Next safety gear na gusto kong bilhin is yung Pole Position na knee / shin guards and riding shoes. Probably from action hobbies din ako bibili (suki hehehe)
juno August 2nd, 2005, 11:33 AM ako... i got myself a NEON ORANGE jacket with matching Reflector strips. (as in kasing kulay nung orange na stabilo boss). Very visible ka talaga whether daytime or night time.
i really look like a moving cone marker on the road, but what the heck.. it is my safety and i am after my being visible to other motorist. i just dont want to hear an excuse in the future from another motorist that i was hit by him because he didn't see me.
so if you see around someone riding a silver scoot wearing a spanking bright orange jacket.... AKO YUN !!
wannabee August 2nd, 2005, 12:58 PM boss juno gusto ko yang ganyang mga neon jackets! san mo nabili and how much?
mods sorry, medyo OT
juno August 2nd, 2005, 01:31 PM kwento ko na lang sa iyo pag nagkita tayo.. heheheh..

before going through the list, i cannot emphasize enough that, if you're going to be doing anything near sports riding, there is no substitute for leather...
these are the stuff i currently use. i've worn other gear but sold or gave them to others.
For sports riding
Teknic 2 pc. perforated leather suit = PhP 20+k from Jake
i've seen people slide on the pavement at a fairly high speed and not have a scratch with leathers on.
Kangaroo leather racing gauntlets
Sidi Vertebra Air 2 = 14k from Aries
HJC AC11 = 7k from JT
Komine hardshell backpro (inserts into jacket) = 2k from Ryan
Buff (to protect my neck from hitting bugs at elevated speeds) = 900 bucks from North Face
Earplugs (ear protection)= about 100 bucks from Hahn
For touring
Cortech (Tourmaster) mesh jacket = PhP 4k yata from the classifieds in this forum
Komine mesh gloves = 2k from Ryan
Komine mesh pants w/ armor = 4k or somewhere near that price (tagal na eh) from Ryan
Gaerne water resistant touring boots = 4k yata (tagal na din)
HJC CL14 = 3+k from JT
Komine hardshell backpro (inserts into jacket) = mentioned above
Buff = mentioned above
Earplugs = mentioned above
Rudy Project knapsack/water bag (protection from dehydration)= 4k from Rudy Project (they don't sell these anymore... wonder why)
For riding in the rain
2 pc. rain suit = a bit less than 1k from RKP
Komine body armor (doesn't get heavy when wet / worn under the rain suit) = 7k or 6k yata before from Ryan's shop
HJC AC11 (better breath guard thus less misting) = mentioned above
Gaerne water resistant touring boots = mentioned above
Surgical gloves (keeps my hands warm and dry / worn under gloves) = cheap lang from any mercury drugstore
Komine mesh gloves = mentioned above
For city riding on the clubman
Teknic jacket (upper half of my suit) = mentioned above
HJC CL22 half helmet = 2k from JT
Komine mesh gloves = mentioned above
Icon riding jeans (looks like ordinary jeans but with stretch panels and reinforced knee area) = given to me
Navajos mc boots = 4k from Linea Italia
other stuff in the cabinet that i don't use anymore or very rarely use but have not sold: Joe Rocket Phoenix gloves (i like the komine's better), Joe Rocket waterproof pants (too hot), HJC CL2 helmet (half helmet that's nice for city riding except for the lack of a visor), aviator goggles (protects my eyes when i'm using the CL2), Index 811 helmet (bought it because of the cool design but don't use it), Dainese short gloves (tan/red combo sticks out like a sore thumb against my mostly all-black gear but i use it when i'm only wearing a tshirt and jeans)
DawnRipper August 11th, 2005, 11:30 AM ang gaganda; sana merong magpost ng medyo budget; pero safe;

Daddy G August 31st, 2005, 05:48 PM up ko lang....
yongc September 1st, 2005, 03:57 PM Dapat bang magsuot ng back protector or spine guard kung ang biyahe ay mga 8 km to office plus 8 km back to bahay, 5 days a week? Or pwede ba yung mesh jacket na lang? :rolleyes:
Kasi pinag-iisipan ko kung yung spine gurad o yung mesh jacket ang bibilhin ko kapag me budget na ko.
Maraming Salamat

hmmm... last friday, while waiting for the left turn green light at the intersection of agham road & quezon ave... i was rearended by an @#$%^& taxi driver. kala daw nya didiretso ko, basa daw daan kya hindi kumagat yung gulong, mahina preno, etc., etc., etc. sledge was pushed literally between my legs and on its left side.
everyday backride ko waswit ko... but that night i had to go home late, so she went on home ahead. her helmet was fastened at the back seat behind me. so... taxi hits sledge, sledge pushes hjc cl-12, cl-12 hits my back. if not for my backpro... baka nadagdagan na fracture ko sa likod... and i wouldn't be replying to your post kasi malamang am still mending my back... or worse.
so the question of whether to wear safety gear (not just the back pro) if the ride is just a short one... hmmm... think about it.
ride safe everyone... pls lang po. and pray your best prayers when you swing your legs over your bike... accidents happen... even to the best of us. :punk:

dunno what you consider cheap but the raingear i got from rkp has a big vent at the back that allows air to flow through. the vent is covered by a flap that prevents water from going in. approx price stated above.

bro... if you intend to buy a ride jacket, most of these have pads as its back pro, aside from the shoulder & elbow armor. premiere brands(read "expensive" :eek: ) have excellent ones. though some still opt to replace it.
for me kasi i bought the komine back pro to replace the padding of my rstaichi jacket. and the back pro also comes with a kidney belt as well... so extra support na rin yun.
if i were you i suggest you go for the ride jacket first... then upgrade the back pro later on. mas mahal kasi jacket... and at least you can cover more of your vitals kaysa kung back pro lang.
anyway, it's really yuor decision bro... basta, ride safe lang po lagi. :cheers:
