I have a problem wearing my Trials boots. My feet doesn't have the arch in the center. My feet is also thin and I have to put at least two sole inserts to keep my feet from wandering inside the boots. We have to ride standing up everytime because our bikes doesn't have a seat and this make my feet hurt like hell. Being a flat footed trialist isn't fun at all. Since I cracked both of my ankles before, this also add to the pain in wearing racing boots. I find it better and more comfortable to use normal high cut treking shoes instead of the racing boots but safety is compromised. I can't walk properly with my boots on and it causes my knees to hurt. Do you think that it will be a good idea for me to just use ordinary treking shoes and just put shin protector than use my boots?

I also have a problem wearing my trials helmet because I sweat too much even in winter. We do lots of huge body actions and since we don't ride fast and stop lots of time doing the balancing act, my eyeglasses get covered with sweat and I have to stop because I can't see whats in front of me. Do you think that ventilated bicycle helmets will be OK to use? I often remove my met because of this and maybe if I use a bicycle helmet, my head will get protection and is better compared to nothing. I don't do big stuffs and I ride safe, slow and easy and I never use my bike on the streets. Do you think that dumping my gears and using trecking shoes and a bicycle met is better?

SUggestion.......not sure if will be suitable though.....have you seen a podiatrist yet? They may be able to suggest a better solution or may even know someone who can make special boots for you. Probably something like "prescription" competition boots that will be made specifically for your feet. I'm pretty sure that they will be a bit pricey but there might be one to suit your budget.

As for your helmet and sweat, I'm afraid that I will agree with you that bicycle helmets are the only ones that will give you full ventilation. Howzabout open face helmets? Would they be allowed on trials?

cheers :punk:

enigma7427,
Great advice. Trials boots are soft and flexible compared to MX boots. The sole compound is very soft and it will only last for a short period of time. If I get an order made boots with the same flexibility and sole compound, it will be very expensive since I'll be needing a new set or two every year and that is too much for my pocket.
My picture is on my avatar and I'm just using a half met. Trialists don't use full face helmets. I'm just worried to use a bicycle helmet because the ears and the lower part of the skull is not protected. Do you know any bicycle met that offers good protection?

Hi again. Will other sports helmets be allowed....like maybe a baseball or cricket helmet? Or maybe if the leather earmuffs of half- helmets can be attached to a bicycle met? Not sure though if it will compromise safety and protection.

Happy riding!

I injured my achilles tendon a few years back, almost a complete tear. I have been thinking of wearing boots with ankle support, kahit quarter lang. What do you guys recommend? I was originally thinking of plain army type boots, but they punish your feet kasi ang init. Siguro those nylon/leather combos would be okay. Pang out of town rides lang naman.

hi ronnel,

i wear a balaclava because my face sweats. the balaclava absorbs the sweat from my face before it drips down to my eyes or glasses...i don't know if this works for you, sure works for me.

enigma7427,
Anything goes for practicing but for not for serious racing because our mets must must comply to the safety standards and must have stickers like JIS, etc... I have several Shoei and Arai mets but I'm only confortable wearing them during winter but still I sweat too much even when it's freezing. I'll try to search for other sports mets but I'm positive that it will compromise safety and protection since we are always riding on cliffs and boulders.

Hardliner,
Sometimes I use a napkin (slim and thin type) during hot days on my forehead but I look like a pervert everytime I take off my met. It works good dahil "walang tagos" :>

keyser_soze,
I ride best using a high cut rubber mesh trecking shoes than my racing boots and I'm more carefull and exact with what I do because I know that they are not really for riding and one mistake can cause serious injuries. I have a friend who got his achilles torn because he fell from a cliff while riding Trials and he was only wearing a normal army type boots. My boots upper plastic protectors saved my legs several times when I fell from a boulder and the frame landed on my leg. I think that any working or trecking high cut shoes will do but you just have to be extra carefull and exact.
