The following release is from Yamaha...

Alessio Chiodi will miss this weekend’s Motocross Grand Prix of Germany at Teutschental after suffering a double break of his left wrist as a result of a training crash on Friday.

Chiodi, who is currently second in the Motocross GP125 championship on his four-stroke Yamaha YZ250FM, was taking part in a training session at the Malagrotta track near Rome with Yamaha De Carli team-mate Claudio Federici. Chiodi was thrown off his bike after landing sideways from a jump and was taken to a local hospital, where X-rays confirmed that he had dislocated the wrist and broken the distal radius bone in two places.

The dislocated wrist was reset under local anesthetic and the 30-year-old Italian rider will return to hospital on Monday (May 5) for a further prognosis. Doctors have initially suggested that it will be around one month before the three times world champion can resume riding again.

Speaking from his home in Monaco, Chiodi said: “In some ways I am lucky to have only injured my wrist, as I crashed on the fastest section of the track. The doctors have said they expect that I will be off the bike for around four weeks, which would hopefully mean that I should miss just the one Grand Prix. I always look forward to racing in front of my own fans and although it won’t be easy my target is to be back to full fitness and racing at the Italian GP at Montevarchi on June 1.”
