The Manila Bulletin reported that traffic enforcers have banned the wearing of crash helmets by motorcycle riders in the town proper in Batac, Ilocos Norte as a preventive measure against would-be assassins who may use the head gear to hide their identities. SPO3 Danilo Belendres said that Batac Mayor Jesus Nalupta Sr. ordered the lawmen to enforce the ban in the wake of several gun-slayings involving motorcycle-riding assassins who concealed their identities by wearing crash helmets.

Belendres said the motorcyclists could wear their helmet on the national highways after passing through the poblacion. In Laoag, the traffic enforcers are also enforcing a crash-helmet ban. It was observed that the non-wearing of helmets by motorcycle riders is now tolerated as a security measure against hooded killers. Record showed that the assassins of the late Batac Judge Ariston Rubio and Marcos town Mayor Rogelio Pambid wore helmets when they killed the victims.

The level of stupidity of some government officials is very hard to comprehend.

So now we will probably have a number of innocent bikers killed while the gunmen continue their killing and just wear bandanas and sunglasses instead of helmets.

The thickheadeness and stupidity of these dumbos is beyond belief. Small wonder this is a Third World Country and likely to remain that way.

Putting out the fire but ignoring the source of the fire I'd say. :o Back to basics, control gun running and gun toting. If you're not in the military or police, NBI or any law enforcement agency we have, you cant carry a gun. Simple.

Plainly, these guys are saving people from assasinations but risking responsible motorcycle riders from being permanently maimed or killed... :C

For the benefit of a minority let the majority suffer, er, isn't that the other way around?

I don't believe the ban on helmets will make the slightest difference. A helmet just happens to be a simple way to disguise yourself. If the crooks can't use helmets there are plenty of alternatives. The only effect of the ban will be to put riders in danger.

 to the good mayor, way to go  what a crime prevention idea that won't have any difference in preventing crime except that it will give a very good impression to everyone (foreign and domestic) of how clever we are in the way we choose our elected government officials

Guys, take it easy. Actually, this is one huge opportunity for the biker community particularly those in the north to come together and educate the Mayor about the many benefits of motorcycling. It's obvious the Mayor and his advisers are not aware of the consequence of their decision.

So, paging to those guys in the north. Get your rides together and talk to the Mayor.

My 2 cents.

GUNGGONG!!!

It looks like we may no choice but to follow this stupid ordinance by grave coercion. as far as i know the marikina councilors that authored this ordinance are a certain VICTORIANO SUBINIANO Or SABINIANO? and EFREN DE GUZMAN lets remember this names people. this names will become big in the expense of our safety....

I still think the motorcycle crime problem is a police and municipal goverment
vigilance problem and not a helmet problem.......

if that is the case na bawal ang helmet, ok lang basta fair, tangalan din ng atip/and side covers ang lahat ng 4-24wheel vehicles. ayan kita na lahat. and never should they do that baka magalit ang lahat ng may MC including yung mga assasins na may MC din at cla naman ang mapag tripan...coz kahit papaano baka mag sympatized din cla. haha! better! :W
