i just lost my full-face helmet from a thief.

my old one is a zeus 990.

i could buy another one, but since i wear glasses donning a full-face helmet is a bit of a chore.

syempre, safety first. is there a DOT and SNELL approved flip-up helmet? what's the price range? which flip-up offers the best bang for the buck.

thanks.

ZEUS 508 or 508w . it will cost you 3,5k to 4,2k. DOT certified but they aren't SNELL certified. HJC will cost around 8k.

can't wait for the replies. i bought the 508w na.

sayang, i really wanted the wine red 508w kaso it's not available:

http://zeus-helmets.com/product/big_pic2/76.jpg

i like the color!

(i also looked at that caberg flip-up model. at 10k, hindi makayan ng aking konsyensya at bulsa. pero ok yung sun visor ha. feeling ko piloto tuloy ako. :D)

i went to the zeus site and found out that the 508w is NOT snell certified. however, they claim it's adheres to the ECE 22.05 standard (and therefore, passes the DOT requirements too) and "ABNT" (a Brazilian standard)

So, what is ECE 22.05 safety standard for?

The Economic Commission of Europe (ECE) has developed a comprehensive helmet safety certification standard known as ECE-22.05 which is required by over 50 countries worldwide, including Germany, a country widely recognized for it’s emphasis on motoring safety. The ECE-22.05 standard is fully accepted for professional racing, including FIM World Championship, AMA Pro Racing, CCS, PIM, Formula-USA and WERA events. In fact, helmets certified to the ECE-22.05 standard are chosen by nearly every professional racer competing in World Championship motocross, enduro, trials and road racing events, including Moto GP, the ultimate in 2-wheeled sport. The ECE-22.05 helmet standard has additional acknowledgement internationally as a premium certification due to the requirement for compliance testing on every production of helmets before shipment, not randomly as with other helmet standards. Vemar helmets comply with both DOT and ECE-22.05 to assure the highest level of safety for motorcycle and ATV use.

Check out these pages about safety certifications and standards:
webBikeWorld page on ECE 22.05 Motorcycle Helmet Standard (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/ece-22-05.htm) says:
If you’re not comfortable with a helmet that only meets the US Government DOT standard, what do you look for? Historically, American riders have looked for a Snell label but the world is getting smaller and we now have other viable alternatives. The ECE 22.05 standard is used in over 50 European countries, including Germany, a country known for taking a hard line on personal protection.

Comparison of test methods by Snell, DOT BSI and ECE (as released by SNELL) (http://helmetharbor.com/snell/snell.htm)

Motorcycle helmets standards, plain and simple... (http://www.motorcycleparts-accessories-andmore.com/motorcycle-helmets-standards.html) says that:
In fact, studies have shown that something like 95% of all accidents involving motorcycles occur at speeds below the velocities for impact testing in the ECE and the DOT standards. So both standards are very good and an ECE or DOT approved helmets will give you some excellent protection.

One advantage that the ECE 22.05 standard has is the mandatory batch testing of helmets before they are released to the riding public. This means that quality of the motorcycle helmets that meet the ECE 22.05 standard is assured by a mandatory sample testing of every production of helmets before they leave the factory.

Yes, all flip-up helmets are not snell certified. If I have an extra budget and looking for flip-up, I'll buy HJC Symax.:) It cost I think P8K.

You can see them on Zeus' page for their full-face line (http://www.zeus-helmets.com/English/show_product.php?pkind_id=4).

Here's a sample 990 (mine was in matte dark silver)
http://www.zeus-helmets.com/product/big_pic2/2066.jpg

Puro glossy yun nasa catalogue nila, merong mga matte colors (black, silver).

Search mo na lang "990". Marami ng lumang discussion threads on the same topic.

Action Hobbies sa Petron Greenhills. look for Marian. Zeus 990, hindi sya kasing porma ng flip up but definitely mas safe kesa flip up o 508 and 508w.

for a cheap safety gears, sa Chris Sports, Landway USA ang brand. although di sya katulad ng branded like Komine and Fox im sure it is better than nothing. Look for the oval design and gray color.
