news on tv last night said the most expensive city in the world is Tokyo while the cheapest is tehran, next cheapest is our beloved country, then Bombay.

Im wondering could this be the reason that so many foreigners choose to live here in spite of the corruption, the traffic and driving habits and relative lawlessness we have here? or is it because we filipinos are so lovable? :k

Any opinions from our foreign freinds on this forum? :D

Not sure if I understood your post well .......

But ..... maybe true, since i've been meeting some foreigners(most from US) finishing their college life here. Most of their reason was of cheaper tuition fee. Some don't even care about what's happening to our country its government as long as they're not affected directly and can live and stay here.

Even if I wanted to I could not return to my own country (England) and live there because my savings would last only a short time before I would be completely broke. I haven't lived or worked there for so long that I get no pension.

My wife is Filipina and I do like most of the people. I also agree that without the corruption and lawlessness the Philippines would be a wonderful country.

The fact that my wife is Filipina means I can get a resident visa although I do object to being treated like an ex convict and going through months of tests and interviews, then reporting every year just so I can retire and spend my life savings here.

Bottom line is that there are very few places where I can afford to retire so the Philippines is the obvious choice.

I have friends who are much richer than I am and who are considering retiring here. I say considering because although they could live like kings with their money and bring a lot of money into the Philippines the hassle of getting the visa, the corruption and lawlessness are very big reasons to go somewhere else like Australia, Singapore, etc.

....I agree that the Philippines is an attraction when it comes to price lists, working here abroad has shown me that the cost of living in Philippines is still cheaper compared to other countries especially the European ones...When me and my colleagues are talking about how much is a regular order of a burger or something or say how much can you afford to own a house and lot in our country, they were astonished on our conversions of the costs...The only concern really is security, our country is beautiful but stricken by poverty...I think it's one of the root causes....Our country may be poor, but we're still happy....More power to the OFWs.... :)

Just like what Mr. Woolf has written, Even if I wanted to I could not return to my own country (Philippines) because I have spent almost half of my life here in Japan. I have so many loans to pay like house loan, lot loan, etc and a small business to look after. My family is Japanese and it would be impossible to start all over again. Nobody in my family speaks English and learning Filipino is near to impossible. Yes living in Japan is very very expensive but I think that I have a better chance here than in the Philippines becasue chances of me getting employed in the Philippines is zero but here, it will be very easy for me to get me a good job since I have many seniors who has offered me to be their business partner or hold a position in their companies as chief mechanic or to be no.2 but I'd rather go solo. If ever I have to go to the Philippines that will only be to start a business like import/export and I still have to live here in Japan since employment will be impossible for me there. If ever I do that, I will probably be treated like a foreigner and not a Pinoy and that will be very hard to accept. Religion is also a big factor to think about. I have my friends, my seniors and my fathers (tatay-tatayan) and I just couldn't pack up and leave.

It will also be very hard for me to adjust with the ways of the govn't since I got used to the ways here. Some of my friends told me to retire in NZ or Australia and some said to Europe but that will also be impossible. It's just too hard to start all over again and I don't have the money to retire and will be working until my last day.

We always talk how beautiful the Philippines is and would like to visit if given the opportunity but we are all having a tough time trying to make ends meet just like everbody.

More power to the Philippines!!!

Life is fun in the Philippines minus the corrupt politicians. they are the culprit behind all these mess. But i strongly believe that somehow somewhere there is one leader that can minimize them. Let us hope one day the sun will also shine in our nation and probably this will be the most perfect place to live then. :punk:
