View Full Version : body armor
jeff_o June 27th, 2003, 02:15 PM hi guys. im n d market for either a riding jacket or body armor. for those who have experienced wearing those. what can you guys advice? body armor or riding jacket? and why. and are there anyone selling used body armors?
Wing 1 June 27th, 2003, 03:15 PM Jeff_O, I hope you wouldn't mind me posting another question in your thread. :) I'm also interested in these items..
I was just wondering. Is it possible to acquire separate body armor?
For the deltoids/shoulder area which I can wear under my jacket?
I already have a 4 plated back protector which I wear under my jacket, but nothing for my shoulders...
Hmm...what if I get my cousin's Hockey-body armor. Nah..too heavy and bulky...
jeff_o June 27th, 2003, 06:02 PM wing1 its ok. with regards to your inquiry.. i think riding jackets really come with their own shoulder and elbow protectors. these protectors are inserted in the jackets. i just dunno if u can find separate protectors to insert into your existing jacket. let's find out what others have to say :)
spdfgtr June 27th, 2003, 11:24 PM wing 1, jeff_O
You can purchase Spidi seperate CE armors from Dreambikes. Last time I checked it was Php1.7T for a set (2 shoulder and 2 elbow). You can install those armors to any jacket by velcro (included in the package).
jeff_o June 27th, 2003, 11:33 PM hi spdfghtr great thanks for the info. there u have it wing1. goodluck :)
Wing 1 June 27th, 2003, 11:34 PM Jeff_o>>
Thanks, bro! Yeah, I've seen these wonderful riding gear. Great jackets they are, but....the price. Ohhhh....:D
Spdfgtr>>
Off to dream bikes this weekend!!!! Hmm..I dint notice them the last time I went there. Thanks, bro! I'll have a look at the package.
By the way, anyone out there willing to sell me their gloves? I lost mine. (I won't explain how I lost 'em. Nakakahiya) :)
edm June 28th, 2003, 11:39 AM Hello wing1, bought the armor listed below for one of my jackets, but the jacket was sold before the armor arrived. So now I'm selling it at cost, brand new.
- please click on the link below to go to my ad, thanks.

Wing 1 June 30th, 2003, 11:22 PM That type of armor also protects the shoulders/deltoids area right?
Can I wear that under any normal jacket?
Thanks for informing me...

Visit this site : Armor (http://www.bohnarmor.com/detail.asp?Merchant_ID=633Pm22C&Product_ID=BCRU&Merchant_Company=BohnArmor.com%20%20-%20(888)%20922%209269)
You can order it through the Internet. My cousin bought one already and it is of very good quality. Comfortable pa at hindi mainit.
Here's a pic:
Wing 1 August 9th, 2003, 01:36 PM That armor looks good. Wish I could get one of those. Would make me feel more secure when a tailgaiting cage comes up from the rear...or when riding hard and fast.
Problem is, I wouldn't know where to get them. I hope they're available in local bike shops...

I guess the commonly seen riding jacket here is the Joe Rocket Phoenix as shown below. It is made of a mesh type material so its not hot even at high noon. When your bike is moving, the air can move freely into the jacket making you feel cooler. It has armour at important places of your upper torso such as shoulder, collar bones, elbows, forearms, etc.

More info here (http://www.joerocket.com/catalog/item.cfm?products_id=198).
the body armour without the jacket like what dec has shown below is nice too coz it is lighter, but it wont protect your skin against the sun unless you'll always wear long sleeves.
kamikaze at robinsons cainta sells very cheap body armour. locally made yata. it is worth it to check it out
Wing 1 August 10th, 2003, 12:37 PM Thanks, littlebadboy! Hmm..Kamikaze at Robinson's Cainta... Thanks for the info :)
rolex_666 August 10th, 2003, 05:00 PM I have this one and it's quite hot especially in traffic, but cools down when you're cruisin. Protection wise, I feel safe with it.
Body armors? Have not tried 'em yet, but I guess they are better than not wearing any protection at all.
You might also want to try mad dogs shop in pasong tamo, that's where I bought mine. They also have some items there on consignment basis.

senzali August 14th, 2003, 04:08 PM I have both the Shirt and Pants body armor from Bohn which I like because it hugs on your body. I initially use this everytime I ride but got tired of removing them and putting them on when I am at the office. I only wear these now during long distance/weekend rides.
I have a leather riding pants with soft armor which i tried to use with the Bohn Pants (http://www.actionstation.com/body_armour2.html#Pants) but it restricted my movement. It works well in combination with a Joe Rocket Hustler Pants (http://www.motorcycleville.com/Joe_Rocket_Hustler_Pants_7286.html) (looks like jeans with a side zipper). You can use this also using Jeans but of course leather gives you better protection.
For the Shirt, I have to remove my Jacket's armor so it will fit. Most jackets comes with armor now so I ended up using my riding jacket most of the time.
Hope this helps

which one? the kamikaze body armor or the joe rocket jackets? i'd say the jacket is a good investment because it protects you from the sun too.
wewenski September 12th, 2003, 12:27 PM bukod sa robinson s cainta san pa metinda nung kamikaze na body armor

I agree with littlebadboy that the jacket is really a good investment... that's why I 'am saving for it :D
wewenski,
Hindi ko sure kung meron pang ibang store kung saan binibenta yung kamikaze na body armor.
try calling kamikaze robinsons for more info... :)
SVince650S October 7th, 2003, 04:35 AM One problem with the mesh type jackets (at least with Joe Rockets ones) is that the body armor tends to move around. This is not good in the event of a crash. But I can understand the need for such a mesh type jacket in very hot and humid weather. I would personally choose a textile jacket with good venting. As for the body armor, that is also an option but you would still need to wear some covering, as the others have said, to protect you from the sun... and wind.
my .02 worth :)

any form of body armour helps.. just make sure they fit and don't move around to do what they are designed to do -to protect.

strawb October 17th, 2003, 03:34 AM i use first racing body armor ..... bought mine for 8500 .... well worth it for me cos its not too hot in traffic and it looks cool as well and gives you protection at the same time ....
anyone else here uses the same kind?
thanks
littlebadboy October 17th, 2003, 08:29 AM strawb,
how does that look like? can you post a pic?
strawb October 17th, 2003, 01:28 PM littlebadboy
it looks cool bro! .... you wear it like a jacket except that the material is made of a mesh type thing ... its complete with shoulder, elbow, forearm, chest and spine protection .... makes you look really intimidating ... i got one cause i frequent the South Super Hi Way ..... as for a pic ... i dont have one ... you can check out their website but the model i have isnt there .... you gotta trust me bro .. it looks cool ... it was a choice of either a joe rocket or this ... i chose it cos it looks cool and is way up on the protection meter ... although im lookin for a joe rocket now ....
why? ..... bikes are vice bro ..... i just cant stop .. hehe
littlebadboy October 17th, 2003, 04:54 PM kewl!... sent you a PM dude.
strawb October 20th, 2003, 02:30 AM they kinda look like these!
themojo November 1st, 2003, 08:58 PM Hi Strawb. The jacket you are referring to is the firstracing gilet enduro downhill body armor. Do you think its safe for street use? Parang manipis kasi yung mesh material. Thanks
rolex_666 November 2nd, 2003, 03:46 PM yan daw ang "in" these days, nasa labas ang protection instead na nasa loob (he-he-he-)

You might want to check out the nankai or komine jackets. there are mesh versions of these brands that have full CE approved plastic/foam armor. I got a Komine just a few days ago that has plastic/foam armor in the elbows, shoulders, back and chest...
These jackets are like the first racing armor but with better textiles. The one I got fits me like a glove and the armor doesn't move around.
jeff_o December 14th, 2003, 10:30 AM hi boylit :) where can i see samples of these komine or nankai body armour? u have a pic of that? maybe you can post it here thanks.
asianpepper March 31st, 2004, 09:06 AM Try Teamapexmoto.com they also have a great body armor or Moto-connection.com site but they are in the US
gernz May 2nd, 2004, 05:35 PM There are a lot of body armors that are not integrated with the jackets such as the UFO,Spidi and Dainese. Both are CE approved but are quite expensive. The new UFO even have an armor for your clavicle.Fox have a knee and elbow armors too. There is no dreambikes shop anymore for they have closed already however, their main shop is still in business at the 10th ave. in Caloocan named Remcor. You can purchase the UFO armors at any Honda Triumph shops such as in Fairview,West Ave. or in Caloocan.
wacky_aries May 2nd, 2004, 10:04 PM guys... just in case you are interested, i have one full body armor, backprotector is removable.

Tadio May 6th, 2004, 09:36 AM Look for a Textile Jacket with good air vent and good body armors inside of it. I don't think mesh jacket with foam protectors will hold up on a spill or in a crash.
FORZA May 11th, 2004, 06:11 AM Hi Strawb. The jacket you are referring to is the firstracing gilet enduro downhill body armor. Do you think its safe for street use? Parang manipis kasi yung mesh material. Thanks
It's for summer gear that's why it's thin mesh material. Dainese carries them too but more expensive.

Ei Tadio, I just wanna react a little... I crash-tested a Fieldsheers mesh jacket and it literary saved me man! I was hit by a car running at 120+ and I slammed on the windshield and flew like 4ft and slid around 3m to 5m and the jacket held up. :punk:

dude if you were hit by a car running at 120+ you wouldn't survive even if you were wearing a gladiator's suit and you wouldn't be thrown for only 4 feet.
hamburger patty ka na kung tinamaan ka at 120+.
Ronnel de Ramos May 17th, 2004, 02:13 AM Hi Guys. Here are some links that you can visit and see. Maybe some of you are skilled and are good with your hands in copying designs and stuffs. All are written in Japanese and it's down to basic... "pictures only" :{

You can go to the next page by clicking the the Japanese word on the lower right hand corner of your monitor. It's written in Japanese but be creative and you'll surely find it. Since it's an auction, most of the start prices are low but DON'T believe it because it's an auction :O . There are still many bike related products that are being sold but it will be too long to put all of them here. For MCP members who are really interested to buy stuffs from the auction, I can buy the stuffs for you but please not with the cheap stuffs because it will cost more. Auction fees, postal fees to my house and postal fees to the Philippines. YEN only. Once the money is in my bank then we have a deal.
*** I used several body armor before and honestly I hate wearing them. I used several racing suits, body armor, back protector, sliders, boots, mets, gloves but I really didn't have a serious accident when I was wearing my proper gear. Ah yes, there was 1 accident when I hit a Super cub crossing a one way street and broke his leg. I was wearing full leathers and I was thrown off my VFR750 (dumb bastard), well I was well protected by my suit but my bike... :{ . Now I do trials and we dont use body protectors. Ever seen a trials rider wearing protectors :O

Dude, the car hit my bike first that's why I was thrown to the windshield! The bike absorbed most of the impact that's why I have my hands full just to make it run again... :C
