View Full Version : Off road boots
iam580 June 29th, 2009, 01:58 PM gusto kong malaman ang opinions ng ating mga fellow riders - mapa off road riders, mapa road/street/tour riders, veterans, experts and newbies alike.
sa tingin po ninyo, ok lang ba and off road boots na gawing dual purpose? yung kung gusto mag tour rides siya rin ang gamitin?
contemplating kasi to buy an off road boots dahil paminsan minsan pag sinusumpong po ay nagte trail din ako, but since sumasali din ako sa street rides, ok lang ba ito kung gamitin for both types ng ride? di kaya masagwang tignan pang touring? di kaya parang naka combat shoes na naka amerikana ang labas?
i need your opinions:D. all violent comments and reactions ay welcome, kahit nakakataas ng blood pressure:D.
thanks.
Wide_Load June 29th, 2009, 02:15 PM Ito ang gamit ko almost 1 year na both on and off road.

Back to the topic:
Yun Fox boots available pa good for everyday use , ok den ang moto boots disadv is yun nga matagal isuot and mas ok pag pang daily mapasok mo sa pants mejo sobra lang tignan ang moto boots sa kalye. opinyon ko lang po, Ako sports boots gamit ko pag alam kong maghapon aat malayo puntahan. Napapasok ko naman sa loob ng pants so hindi masyado halata. Side Vortice gamit ko. And no need to buy another boots kung dual purpose syo (trail/daily)
Ok pa den naka boots for me youll never know kung kelan ka mamalasin, sabe nga nila always dress for the crash not sa comment ng ibang tao. riding a boots its actually quite awkward thean any sports or rubber shoes but always remember riding/racing boots are intended for "real" protection secondary lang ang comfort.

Hi Wideload. I have Exustar off-road boots and I find it really difficult to shift. I can only use the hard sole of the boot since the thick toe part won't fit under the shifter... unless you had your shifter adjusted?
TS, it's more cumbersome to wear and take off and they generally go over your pants, unless you wear very loose slacks.

kinda needs a longer shifter to accomodate the toe in between it and the foot peg. these boots must have been designed for the yetis:D not the pinoy feet. i just doubt if we can avail a longer aftermarket shifter to resolve the issue. i hope, i hope...:)

@steve,
if you are using your DT125 no need to adjust the length of your shifter as far as i know it will fit any brand of MX boots.
boylit July 2nd, 2009, 09:00 AM Hi Wideload. I have Exustar off-road boots and I find it really difficult to shift. I can only use the hard sole of the boot since the thick toe part won't fit under the shifter... unless you had your shifter adjusted?

try adjusting the shift lever on your bike...
place a ruler flat on top of the footpeg... adjust the shifter so that the bottom of the shifter peg (the thing you tap to shift) rests just on top of the ruler... this should allow you to hook the shifter with the boot on... downside is you downshift by lifting your foot off the peg...
on the brake side, place the ruler flat on top of the footpeg... adjust the brake lever so that the top of the brake lever peg is just at the bottom of the ruler... makes it easier to brake standing up...
this is my setup when using mx boots on my past dirt bikes and supermotos...

Hello Doc! :) The Exustar is a well known brand but I'm not sure if I actually saw one yet. When my Rallye Pro's were new, it was next to impossible to extend the foot, but it got better upon break-in. Like many with the same problem, I also shift with only the SIDE of the sole (no longer placing the entire foot under the lever), hooking the lever unto the little "ledge" formed by the sole and boot.
Sometimes, I DON'T rest my heel on the peg anymore but simply hook the lever with an upward twitch of the leg. (If you know the GS trans, you'll know how this sounds!) Surprisingly though, I seem to get easier shifts when on my sportsbike... Must be the more forward and down body position?
There have been several recommendations of aftermarket shifter replacements and adjusters, but since I swap footwear often, I think I might find adjusting every time a bit too tiresome.
Also, I feel a bit "overstuffed" if I tuck my pants into the boot, but don't like the flailing and fluttering around when the pants are not. So I fold them up just to the lip of the top of the boots and hold them in place "magsasaka style" with rubber bands. :D

agree sir. this is actually one point i would like to validate.
Vmax July 3rd, 2009, 07:37 AM yes iam. It's the SBM300 posted in Trailer's link, previously available in Motoworld.
Thanks for the tip Boylit. The brakes on the ADV have 2 adjustments so it's not a problem there. Like Wideload, I change boots often and would find adjusting the shifter cumbersome.
Wide, I do exactly that, using the narrow inner sole to shift. "Magsasaka-style" with rubber bands? Now that's new to me. I bet Ewan and Charlie don't know that too! Haha.

EagleOne July 3rd, 2009, 07:31 PM what i did to my street riding boots is pinapalitan ko sa mr. quickie ng suelas na pang combat boots. now i have a boots for both trail and street riding. no problem in shifting in my dirt bike and my street bike, lalo naman ok sa scooter hehe kasi walang shifter:D it looks good din, mukha na sya ung tactical boots na suot ng mga special forces.

@sir wide, basing on your picture, i cant see anymore room for the knee / sheen guard when the boots are worn. how do you get to protect your knees if you are wearing a plain denim pants sir (without knee pads)? meron bang nabibiling protector that's just intended for the knee? yun bang HINDI na nage extend to the sheen like the ordinary knee/sheen guard na mahaba.
thanks.

Yes, there are knee guards ONLY (NOT knee with shin guards). Meron na kasi sortof shin guards itong boots. I use the ones I also use in skateboarding, airsofting.

Si Charlie Sheen naman yun, sir. hehehe :O Try looking among the airsoft supply type stores for that olive drab knee pad. I once bought a set for around Php 1000 I think, knee and elbow pairs included.

Looks very much like my favorite Caterpillar steel toed work boots which I also like to ride with, except the Exustar has a steel tipped sole.
I'm sure it's not an issue with others and their bike, but with my TIPTOE ONLY tall bike, I'm sometimes tempted to REMOVE that steel cap as it tends to make me slip. Ever notice this, Doc?
