View Full Version : STICKER! a no-no to ZEUS helmet???? jawfree October 29th, 2004, 09:45 PM i just bought my new zeus helmet. i read the manual. me nakalagay na DO NOT PUT STICKER ON YOU HELMET. ERRR...... BAKEEET? pongki_shawie October 30th, 2004, 02:00 AM Well some helmet manufacturer says that every sticker must have adhesive of some type to hold it on, and adhesives have solvents in them that aid the sticking process. If the solvents are incompatible with the helmet shell they can possibly attack the plastic, weakening it. The plastic will "craze" with zillions of tiny cracks running in all directions. The damage may not be highly visible, particularly since it is covered by the sticker. And the weaker plastic may or may not ever make a difference in a crash, depending on where you hit. And another debate would be the sliding resistance of the helmet itself. Of course you want your helmet to slide easily when you hit the pavement and helmet manufacturers says that if you put stickers on your lid with a rough sticker on it probably slides less well. Again this is what the lid manufacturers says regarding putting stickers on your lid.. but if you'd ask me.. stickers can add up visibility specially if the sticks are the reflectorized ones. jawfree October 30th, 2004, 09:55 AM i just want to add just a tiny one. so SIR, what's ur advice? to do or not to do? ®iChIe October 30th, 2004, 11:15 AM pwede naman siguro bro, kahit maliit na sticker lang, I had an Arai sticker on my HJC helmet, looks cool and napagkakamalan nga na orig Arai eh. :O arobana October 30th, 2004, 11:37 AM I keep my helmet plain. No stickers, just the original one that goes with it. But for those who are into stickers, just dont overdo it. Maybe one or two small ones would look nice. I stick to sticking on the bike itself. enrico_raymundo October 30th, 2004, 03:09 PM Lagyan mo nyo ng madame!! Wolver888 October 31st, 2004, 05:39 PM My KBC Roadway TK7 helmet manual says never put a large sticker or decal onto it. I only placed a bright 4" x 3" number "8" at the back. That's it. It says large, maybe not as large as almost half of the helmet. :D arwin_ActionHob November 1st, 2004, 11:00 PM i just bought my new zeus helmet. i read the manual. me nakalagay na DO NOT PUT STICKER ON YOU HELMET. The glue used by different sticker makers varies in the sort of chemicals they use depending to their applications. Some of these glues attack the paint as well as the shell rendering the shell weak. The manufacturer's brand stickers use special glue that is safe for the paint and the shell. Normally the reason why a BIG sticker goes on the lid in the first place is because the lid has been dropped or scratched, the sticker was then put on to cover the damage! :O Ayan ha.... 'la na :argue: , :k na lang tayo, grabe na kasi pag :x eh :I broker218 November 4th, 2004, 02:52 PM designed to shatter upon impact? bro., d ba dapat, ang helmet me flex ng konte at ndi agad mababasag para ndi masyadong maapektuhan ang ulo natin upon impact? i mean, ndi ba dapat makunat at ndi mal***** ang outer shell nya? kasi me styro protector naman sa inner un d ba? please enlighten me on this one. parang nalilito ako eh. :D shatter may be the wrong word, boz... senysa na :) pero ang pagbasag ng helmet (EPS liner inside) is what absorbs the force of the impact in case of accident... isipin natin, kung gumamit ka ng helmet na metal, pag na-aksidente ka, dented lang helmet mo pero your head will absorb d force of impact. kaya dapat ding iwasan na ibagsak ang helmet kasi magkakaroon ng maliliit na lamat na makakaapekto sa protective qualities ng helmet tmthy November 4th, 2004, 06:18 PM ei vagabond... musta na? long time no hear ah! hehehe.... :D pansin mo ron, :) namiss ko mga post nya dati eh! regarding stickers>> i really appreciated the technical info by pongkie! but if the sticker is too small .. less naman siguro yung risk :) so jawfree, musta yung stickers? post naman dito yung pics to break the ice- heat pla :) :C jawfree November 4th, 2004, 07:05 PM pansin mo ron, :) namiss ko mga post nya dati eh! regarding stickers>> i really appreciated the technical info by pongkie! but if the sticker is too small .. less naman siguro yung risk :) so jawfree, musta yung stickers? post naman dito yung pics to break the ice- heat pla :) :C di na lang ako gumamit. less gastos na nasunod ko pa yung nasa manual. tmthy November 4th, 2004, 09:30 PM :O :O well its a win-win soltn after all :) :) Wolver888 November 4th, 2004, 10:44 PM Yep, quality designed helmets tends to "break" (inner shell) coz of the impact just like what had happened to my wife's helmet, it cracked where the impact was, my wife can only remember about sliding on the ground but not hitting her head hard on it, examining the helmet it is obvious she did hit her head on the ground that hard, she doesn't feel pain on her head since most of the impact had been absorbed by the helmet with the cushioning inside. After a reasonable (maybe hard enough) impact of a helmet after a crash, helmets should already be discarded and never be used again, you'll never know if a crack had already started. ;) THE INNER SHELL The polystyrene ARAI inner shell, which fits exactly in the outer shell, protects the head against impact by functioning as a safety cell. It smoothly reduces the impact energy. But if the density (indicated in 'gram/litre') of the expanded polystyrene inner shell is too high, it will be too hard and will therefore not absorb the impact force. In order to provide maximum safety, the inner shell should not be too large, causing the helmet to 'dance' around your head nor too small so that it constricts and causes pain. If the size of a persons head is required place a measuring tape around the head, just above the eyes and ears and over the small bump on the back of the head and read the size where the tape joins As is the nature of quality helmets, an ARAI helmet is constructed in such way that the energy of a severe impact is absorbed through PARTIAL DESTRUCTION of the shell and/or inner shell. Such damage may not be directly visible however from the outside. If the helmet has suffered a heavy impact, and any doubt exists about further ability to protect, we strongly advice either to return the helmet to the manufacturer for inspection or discard the helmet and replace it by a new ARAI helmet. To provide effective ventilation, the inner shell is equipped with ventilation groves on the front, top and neck support side. Source : http://www.araihelmet-europe.com/tecs/anatomy.htm I don't think itsy bitsy little stickers do matter:D ...... errr ..... do they? Noyski November 16th, 2004, 07:07 PM Sakit tyan ko sa katatawa sa inyo mga guys (and gals?) :O :O :O . Sticker can affect the aerodynamics of the helmet. Kaya dapat yan very smooth. But you will not noticed it kasi sa laboratory expt lang yang nalalaman. At halos negligible yan para maramdaman mo ang efecto. Nevertheless, use sticker kung makakapogi points yan sa 'yo at hindi mababawasan ang aesthetic looks. Noyski :) enrico_raymundo November 17th, 2004, 05:09 AM According to an off-road magazine, Helmets expires its protection capability after 3 to 4 years, and lessen if the helmet is frequently drop. Kaya they advise to helmet user to have applied an extra care. :C jawfree November 17th, 2004, 01:30 PM According to an off-road magazine, Helmets expires its protection capability after 3 to 4 years, and lessen if the helmet is frequently drop. Actually I do not know if it necessary to follow this recommendation. In the Phil., some are only using helmet to avoid being apprehended by a policeman. Or "may be" they just want business? pero kung may pira ka man, mabuti pa bumili ka na ng bagu! Sabi nga nila to add pugie points. :O My sister bought my pink helmet in England 10 years ago in a garage sale. So + mo pa na ginamit na ito doon for some times. knowing it is not safer as new helmets could give. Pinagtyatyagaan ko na ‘kse, I do not have money yet to buy a new one. So kahit short riding, I always wear my helmet. :C |
