Hi Guys,

I will be visiting manila w two other friends on our bikes and I know bikes under 400cc arent allowed on slex and nlex.

My question is, are all bikes allowed on edsa? what are the best roads for bikes and which ones are best avoided?

Thank you for any information.

rob.

any motorcycles are allowed on EDSA i believe. you'll even see traffic enforcers on small scooters running around EDSA. But of course with all the bus and lousy drivers.... it'll be a bit dangerous if you're on a small bike plying EDSA. you have to ride something that these 'blind' drivers can see. I don't mean to frighten you but there has been several news of public vehicles running over motorcycles on edsa. there has been lotsof motorcycle accidents stories on EDSA, most of em involving buses. with regards to best roads in manila for bikes. it will really depend on the time you'll be running that road. late night or early morning would be the best because less cars and cool weather. but i suggest run around roxas blvd :) it's a nice place.

Thanks a lot jeff!

we will try riding early morning and late evening, and we'll make it a point to cruise along Roxas Boulevard, and watch out for those buses. :S maybe even edsa wont be so scary if its early or late.

We will be on a boat with our bikes tomorrow morning and it will be about 30hours till we reach manila, so iwont be able to check this site for more tips till i find an internet cafe somewhere. Its gud that i saw your tip before we leave :)

Thanks again

Bro! running parallel Edsa going to Quezon city is the C5 road. You can also use that road, with less vehicles any time of the day and no buses :)

I was thinking of using a safer route from Taytay to Magallanes Makati ... can I use C5?

Bro you can use C5 road, magallanes to Taytay or vice versa, its much safer.
you might check your route after C5, cause theres a lot of routes going to magallanes.

i think the best route from c-5 to magallanes is thru the Fort. use mckinley road in going out to edsa then take the flyover to slex

formerly PULSAR, i think its riskier to use c-5 than edsa because vehicles esing c-5 travel at a much faster rate than those in edsa. the trick in edsa is to run faster than those buses so you dont give them a chance to run you over. :O

On EDSA I always stay as far to the left as I can. This avoids the buses and I have only one lane of traffic to worry about on my right. Watch those U-Turn slots though. What gets me is the road surface. Imagine, this is the main artery through a capital city and the surface is so bad your teeth nearly fall out........

I don't want those sore nuts >.< C5 na lang ako dadaan, hopefully I could figure out a way from Ortigas to that C5 flyover to Ayala then magallanes...

This would be my route:
Taytay >> Ortigas >> NewMedicalCity >> FlyoverToC5 >> ???? >> Ayala >> Magallanes

kakaliwa ako from NewMedicalCity bago mag Robinson's Mall and take the flyover from there, I think I spotted a C5 sign there somewhere ...

That's right Camote! and to fill in your ???, after the stop light on C5 (after crossing the Pasig R) stay on the right to go up to Fort Bonifacio. Turn left when you see PriceSmart then turn right at McKinley. This will take you to EDSA-Ayala. :)

Thank you guys for saving my nuts :D I want to keep my dentures too  :D

nakasakay na kasi ako sa mga buses going from Magallanes to Ayala ... I realized that I really DON'T want to ride right next to them. Overspeeding, too much pollution from the butt of the bus, pabago-bago ng lanes parang kiti-kiti.

or you can just go straight on to the gate of bonifacio facing villamor instead of turning right on mckinley... once you get out of the gate, before you cross the bridge crossing slex, turn left down towards osmena highway (slex) bound to edsa...

parang ang gulo ah....

make sure to avoid the nasty humps on that part of Bonifacio though, specially at night. my vespa became an enduro bike because of that once. nag ala charlie's angels' ako, good thing i landed like a cat!

hi gud pm po. :R
since nasa topic kayo can I please ask?
When on Edsa at papuntang QC fr. Pasay etc (or vice versa) anong lane dapat ? :? If your on the extreme left that is the fast lane. Extreme right is for buses. Tapos there is a yellow or rather useless ocre line alegedly separating buses from i dunno what. hells bells and all :( Medyo hindi ako matulin or a real slowpoke. I can't stay on the left. People shout at me to bust it outta there. If I stay on the right, then it wammy time w the buses. If i stay on the middle lane it's double entendre time as i have to look over both shoulders. I try to use Edsa at off peak hours too so as to avoid the rush. The c-5 is an option but out of the way. Question is "What lane dapat?" sa akoa permi o for motorcyclist in general.

tenks po sa imong maayong pagtambag

Don't worry about going too slow! EDSA traffic is usually so slow you may fall asleep! Or pass out from all the fumes! :O :O :O :O

Elijah,

How about, Taytay - Floodway - Pasig - C5 - The Fort - Ayala - Magallanes? Makaiwas ka sa traffic sa kahabaan ng Ortigas. Most FX going to Ayala take that route.

Titus,

pero i think EDSA is much faster when on a bike!

ingats! :)

thanks for the additional tips, but being new to riding a bike in manila i chicken out most of the time and for health reasons take a taxi, mrt, or bus many times :O

Tried the route you guys gave me, the place going to floodway has a few potholes to look out for. @ C5 to the Fort the road is ok, except somewhere in there are a lot of humps ... took me by surprise a couple times O_O ... they should have it painted.

My route to going back from Magallanes to Taytay is difficult, I have no idea how to get back to Taytay from C5 ... I might get lost in the floodway part too. Naligaw na nga ako kanina sa may Pasig eh :D so I took the Edsa route, and damn! a bus nearly side-swiped me by overtaking my bike... almost bumped my bike a couple inches before me. Some parts of the road is bad, the only worse thing there are the buses... mahilig mag-overtake. Got back safely though.
