View Full Version : Flip-Up or Full-Face
sally_albright December 28th, 2008, 06:50 AM What is better? What would you recommend?
Flip-Up (Modular) or Full-Face?
Looking for a good helmet. So far, I'm eyeing AFX FX-30.
It's full-face but I want a flip-up.
So need help from the experts.
Help please.
Thanks!
jon _beza December 28th, 2008, 07:29 AM GO for modular helmets kung may bisyo ka habang bumabiyahe like yosi, inom ng tubig at kain ng candies para hindi muna tangalin yun helmet mo...
sally_albright December 28th, 2008, 07:40 AM Thanks Boss Jon.
I don't smoke. Heavy, water drinker yes!
So if modular, any specific one po na marerecommend nyo?
d'virus December 28th, 2008, 09:24 AM pa-OT...
is it a good idea na mag smoke etc habang nag ride?
di ba naka distract ng attention yan?
ask lang po ako.....
IMO; modular doesnt offer the protection op a full face..
da onli thing that makes using modular reasonable ay kung yung eyeglasses mo doesnt fit sa full face..
my 2c worth..
sally_albright December 28th, 2008, 09:31 AM not an authority on your first question.
do i get distracted? haven't seen anyone doing it.
thanks for the advice boss.
my concern is my long beautiful hair, joke!
kidding aside, i agree that full-face offers more protection.
greiscale December 28th, 2008, 09:55 AM flip up - good for short distances
full face - good for long rides...

filmore December 28th, 2008, 08:41 PM full face or modular or half face... + pag iingat sa daan
if you're wearing an eye glass i think modular will be the best for you.

Got this last week. So far, I'm enjoying its new features. Has a chin cover to prevent dusts from getting in your eyes, retractable visor for daytime riding, easy access air-vents, new design, etc. I just don't like it when it folds my ears, or is it my ears that's too big.:o

Hanhan has this!
Gwapo nga ng helmet eh.
Pero since back rider nya ko, I think I'd go for something else para di kami super twins.
sally_albright December 29th, 2008, 02:07 AM FULL FACE = safer than modular
Thanks Boss Rjosetsi, Pediaking and Arki!
Appreciate your suggestions.
Totally agree that best protection pa rin ang pag-iingat sa driving.

It's great to find a thread where ALL the subscribers believe in helmets. Last time I was over there I bought an Arai flip-up (it was supposed to be Arai), but I rarely felt the need to flip it up. I would agree with others that ultimately a full face has the edge in protection.

It's also a great thing that everyone is willing to throw in their suggestions.
dbmaristela_73 December 29th, 2008, 10:05 AM in my own opinion...i'll go for full face,it's much safer than the first one...but it must be DOT or SNELL approved..
sally_albright January 4th, 2009, 10:09 PM Everyone, I'll be going for a modular.
Had two rides already to Marilaque and a modular really helps when it comes to asking for directions, quick side trips, etc.
So for now, modular it is.
Now, I live in Q.C., where can I go to scout for good helmets (Caberg, Zeus, HJC or AGV).
If you have suggestions on the actual make and model, better.
The thread below helps but if you can please put in Modular Only suggestions here, better.

Thanks so so so much!

Brand new mc to follow na ba ito?
sally_albright January 4th, 2009, 10:27 PM Hello Sir Hanhan!
Yup, mc coming up!
So please help me with getting a helmet.
Where to shop? What to buy?
Pics sana if meron.
Thanks.

act2000 January 4th, 2009, 11:26 PM For agv flip-up helmets try going to active moto at market market
Ranimal January 5th, 2009, 12:16 AM My take is that if you fall wrong on a flip-up helmet, it may not offer you the best protection. If you fall on your chin first, the front piece my collapse and just offer you protection as a 3/4 helmet at that point.
After riding on the on-roads in Philippines last December and the max speed I encounter on a 125, I think the flip-up helmet will be adequate.
My $0.02

I also have this helmet... mine is black, nice design, light, DOT certified, dual-visor feature is cool and great, good fit (except in the forehead area which seems a little tight for me) and I also have the ear thingy problem but I have one major complaint, the NOISE! man, its like a typhoon inside the helmet even at 40-60kph... and at 100kph I couldn't even hear my own engine! all I hear is whoooooossshhhhhh!!! do you have the same problem sir?

I was just searching online and came across AFX-FX30.

Not available here in PH unfortunately.
You got yours online? Sweet.
Thanks Hayden.
Hanhan January 26th, 2009, 06:40 AM I also have this helmet... mine is black, nice design, light, DOT certified, dual-visor feature is cool and great, good fit (except in the forehead area which seems a little tight for me) and I also have the ear thingy problem but I have one major complaint, the NOISE! man, its like a typhoon inside the helmet even at 40-60kph... and at 100kph I couldn't even hear my own engine! all I hear is whoooooossshhhhhh!!! do you have the same problem sir?
Noise, not much of a problem for me sir. I can still hear the engine, loud pipe, even most of the things around me. I used to have all the air-vents closed though. Fastest I go on the streets is 80kph, ill try to go faster and will give you another feedback.
Meron naman kasamang mas makapal na foam sa gilid ng tenga diba? That worked well for me.:)
abercrombie January 26th, 2009, 09:28 PM both.. depende sa pupuntahan.. ;)
Vengeance January 26th, 2009, 11:12 PM  either of the two. the important part is you have a helmet to protect you!! CHEERS to that!
tobz January 27th, 2009, 12:06 AM I've been using the Caberg Rhyno for a couple of months now. maganda siya and since di naman ako madalas mag-drive ng sobrang layo, ok na siya. full face helmets are still the way to go when it comes to protection, since buo yung shell. just make sure that you never, ever skimp on buying your helmet. oo mahal nga yung mga AGV, Caberg, HJC, X-lite, and such, pero you should compare it to how much you will loose once you take a nasty spill on the road.
my first ever helmet was a full-face zeus, had it bought for 2k and it served its purpose. yun nga lang, mejo maingay siya at high speed and since hindi natatanggal yung foam inserts, mejo bumabaho kapag pinapawisan ka na, even if you are wearing a balaclava. zeus or spyder helmets are a good investment, pero syempre, nothing beats the pricey ones. hindi lang naman tatak bibilhin mo dun e, pati xempre sa quality ng gawa and napansin ko, yung foam inserts niya, hindi basta basta lumalambot kahit labhan mo ng madaming beses.
full face are still the best protection but it doesn't mean you cant consider a modular/half-face. just my 2 cents... :D
m7zednalfs January 27th, 2009, 03:31 PM @Hanhan,
now that's very odd!
tinakpan ko na rin yung mga maliliit na air vents sa ilalim, pati yung tatlong air vent sinara ko pero same banana, very noisy! ok lang sana kung dinig ko lang yung noise sa labas (ambiance) pero yung whooosh sound ng hangin ang napakalakas eh... di kaya dun sa gap ng padding (between the fixed padding and the padding on the movable part of the helmet) dumadaan yung hangin at umiingay sa loob? pinalitan ko na rin ng mas makapal na foam para sa ears ganun pa rin.
kahit 40kph lang ang takbo ko pag malakas naman yung hangin na pasalubong sa akin maingay na sya. kasi I tried raising my shoulders to partially cover the bottom of the padding (dun sa may gap) medyo nawawala yung whooshing sound eh.
Hanhan January 28th, 2009, 07:23 AM @m7zednalfs,
