View Full Version : Basic MUST-HAVE Safety Gear / ride Census
jodes November 29th, 2008, 07:39 AM hi people... am starting this thread to have your opinions and suggestions as to what basic protective gear a rider must have in each ride that he takes. This is due to the fact that an accident may happen anywhere, anytime and may come to us as a surprise(as it always does) and caught many people unprotected resulting in the worst case scenario... DEATH. lets have a census or a poll.
As what was mentioned, the criteria is MUST WEAR and on EACH RIDE no matter how near or far the ride is going to be, no matter how expensive the gear is since our concern here is SAFETY/LIFE. I'll cast the 1st vote...
HELMET & AIRBAG JACKET
and the 2nd vote
HELMET & SPINE/KIDNEY PROTECTOR
gl3nborj November 29th, 2008, 10:29 AM He he he...
Sinabi mo na rin po lahat nung sagot sir eh.
r1d3r November 29th, 2008, 10:38 AM Knee pads, elbow guard backprotector, ofcorz helmet (DOT/SNELL approved) close/riding shoes, jacket, dapat good pants din pala...
gl3nborj November 29th, 2008, 10:59 AM Good helmet
Padded Leathers with protectors, mid cut leather boots...
Vengeance November 29th, 2008, 11:11 AM a rider needs as much protection he can get from head to toe.. a branded
helmet will do the job dnt settle for anything less..all the "smart rider" know
this for a fact. next is a leather jacket then knuckled gloves, kneepads and
boots or riding shoes and the most important of all the "sign of the cross"
every now and then:) IMHO:D

sign of the cross ang the best..
anthonyjcrocks December 1st, 2008, 03:13 PM Since we are talking about the BASIC gears needed, I would say firstly a DOT/SNELL Certified Helmet, A good padded jacket (leather or mesh), Leather/mesh gloves with knuckle reinforcement, knee pads or riding pants and a good set of boots or riding shoes.
erictenefrancia December 1st, 2008, 04:25 PM this is how i suit up, depende sa weather
1. for city riding during DAY (with average speeds of 60-80kph at 30 minutes to 1 hour per 50 km ride per day) - pag daylight riding I also consider the higher temperature, pwede ka mahilo sa heat exhaustion kaya kung pwede wag mag heavy jacket so the compromise is minimal gears.
Half face ako kasi more visibility and I can talk easily on a half face without removing the whole helmet mas madali din uminom ng softdrinks sa half face helmet
- At least half face helmet
- padded gloves
- Basic padding elbow and shin
- Semi hi cut shoes
2. for city riding during WET & RAINING (with average speeds of 60-80kph at 30 minutes to 1 hour per 50 km ride per day)
- At least half face helmet
- padded gloves
- Rain suit or KAPOTE
- Basic padding elbow and shin
- Semi hi cut shoes
- Reflectors
3. for city riding NIGHT (with average speeds of 60-80kph at 30 minutes to 1 hour per 50 km ride per day)
- At least half face helmet
- Basic padding elbow and shin
- Semi hi cut shoes
- Reflectors
4. for Long rides and touring DAY NIGHT & RAINING (with average speeds of 80-120kph at 2 - 4 hour per 200 km ride )
- Full face, with extra half face helmet
- Padded jacket
- Padded pants
- Full elbow and Shin guard
- Heavy duty boots
- Rain Suit or Kapote
- Knuckled gloves
- refelectors

You are spot on my friend. I don't understand much of what is said in the various threads, but I have to say "salita lang" ( I hope I've spelt that correctly, I am trying to say "all talk, no action". A comment that I made in a similar thread applies here too "If you can't afford a helmet, then you can't afford a bike". I know that more than a helmet is needed, but I also recognise the fact that many don't have any money left over when they've bought the bike. All I can say to that is, buy a cheaper bike. Or, buy a GOOD helmet first and with the money left over buy the bike.
God Bless you all, and ride safe
act2000 December 1st, 2008, 11:04 PM Full face helmet for longer distances
Half face helmet for short distances and limited speed.
Good m/c gloves w/ knuckle protectors
Jacket w/ ce rated elbow, shoulder and back protectors.
Maganda ang air bag jacket but I don't think its THAT necessary.
Shoes -- preferably no slippers. Masakit ang makadkaran ng balat sa daan e. :)
reflectors at night will be very helpful

jodes December 3rd, 2008, 02:12 AM thanks people for your responses. :clap:you may have misinterpreted me but what am trying to get out from you here is the basic minimum safety gear that one must have on each ride. forgot to mention the minimum earlier... i apologize for that. just the gear that seems enough to save your life.
I am not saying that what you guys mentioned are wrong. I am just getting the bare minimum essentials that a rider must have in order to survive an accident. In a way the result of this census will benefit the newbies also as to what safety gear one must prioritize in acquiring. so i guess i can let go of the gloves, the knee and elbow protector, balaclava but am not saying its wrong to have them alright. but as this is a census , i will tabulate your answers . thank you so much people!

Android17 December 3rd, 2008, 09:35 PM Vote din ako :) malapit man or malayo sa tingin ko basic na toh
1. FULL FACE helmet
2. Spine/Kidney protector
3. Knee/Shin guards and elbow ( or padded jacket )
4. Riding Boots
5. Riding Gloves
Add na rin ako ng reason kung bakit MUST HAVE sakin toh :D
1. Full face helmet, ung barkada ko nadulas ung moto nyah ... kaskas ung nguso nya, d mo na cya makilala nun ( ok na cya ngaun ).. kasi hindi cya naka-full face helmet kahit maganda BRAND name nito
2. Spine.. saw 2 bikers in ayala flew over a car like a ragged-doll ( kasi nabanga sila sa likod ung kotse) .. parang bali ung spine nila nung lumipad sila pataas pero naka survive naman. ** hirap ng malumpo.
3. Guards, Minsan kasi tuhod sumasalo pag nag slide ung bike oh timilapon ka.
4. Riding boots... kadalasan paa natin ang nadidisgrasya dahil naiipit ng motor or cya sumasalo ng lahat ng weight, matibay na boots para saluhin ung bigat ng motot
5. Gloves , para matibay ung grip mo kahit umu-ulan.. or pag semplang .. eto pang aala-lay mo habang dumudulas ka :D ** haba ba?
