Helmet terms:
Full-Face helmet= Covers whole of your head with mouth guard, sometimes known as Full-coverage helmet with or without eye visor/shield
3/4-face helmet= Covers the whole head, face is exposed or can have face visor/shield but no mouth guard
1/2-face helmet or half-face helmets=are those that cover half of the head, ears can be exposed or not. This helmet may have ear-cover made of leather or synthetic leather material. Seldom have eye shields or visor. Some of these are called Novelty helmets (such as German-style helmets, Polo, Skull-cap, even kabo-kabo). Sometimes, they come in with goggles.
Modular Helmets= are those considered as "convertible" from full-face to 3/4-face helmets.

I brought this up to clear things between 3/4 and 1/2 (half-face) helmets.
As i often encounter ads telling me half-face helmets (for sale) when they are actually 3/4 face helmets.

One more thing,
Open-face (open-type) helmets can be 1/2 or 3/4 helmets

So, if you're selling an open face helmet it is best to specify whether it be a 1/2 (half-face/half-shell) or 3/4 -face helmet.

Good explanations, the variety offered by the helmet manufacturers is wonderful, but can be daunting.

Hope you don't mind if I take a stab at it...

FULL FACE - The safest of the all helmet designs, it covers most of your head exposing the only the eyes and bridge of the nose, this area is covered by a face sheild that can be raised for comfort and communication. The full face helmet is the most expensive of all the designs, heaviest, and warmest. Granted that this is can make it the least comfortable, the safety tradeoff makes it worthwhile.

3/4 Coverage (Open face/ Modular/ Flip Up) - This is very popular amongst tropical countries and smokers. Some of the helmets might offer eye protection, in the guise of a face sheild, so you will have to wear goggles. The significant difference is that this helmet does not protect your chin and mouth, as compare to a full face helmet.

Although they look like full face helmets Modular Helmets are not rated as full face helmets, because they use a plastic locking mechanism which breaks with mild-moderate impacts. The only exception is BMW's Modular helmet, which is rated as a full face helmet. The helmet has a steel bands going through the modular chinbar and main helmet shell, joined together by a steel locking mechanism.

2/3 Coverage - This design covers less than the 3/4 quarters helmet, exposing your entire jaw line, nape of the neck and part of your ears. Some don't have face sheilds... It's cheaper, lighter, temperately more comfortable, but offers LESS protection.

[B]1/2 Coverage - Exposes more of the ears, cheeks ad the nape of the neck. Haven't seen any models with face sheilds though. But you might want to take a very close look at the certification. I see some that have a DOT sticker on it, but lack the components to make it a motorcycle helmet.

Mga Sirs, ask lang ako... I've seen different helmets pero anu ba mga pagkakaiba nila... me full-face, half-face, modular, me pang motard... Kailan ba ang gamit nila? Do you need different types for different uses...long ride? daily service to work? Any inputs and feedbacks based on your experiences would be appreciated...TIA!!! :s:s

sa tingin ko, ito yung mas tama na terminologies. (full face, 1/2 coverage, 2/3 coverage and 3/4 coverage.)

for that budget you can get an HJC CL15 fullface helmet...its not that heavy and can be used even for everyday riding...

try mo rin yung mga sellers natin dito...i've had a KBC VR2 helmet which is even lighter than the HJC.

Replace "face" with "head" for super accurate definition. Ironically, none of those helmets offer complete protection for the fez.

full head, 1/2 head coverage, 2/3 head coverage and 3/4 head coverage

mag Zeus ka na... magaan naman ito at DOT approved... Zeus 805 (fullface, 1,800 "plain colors"/2,200-2,300 "w/design") gamit ko, magaan, not so bulky (para sa akin)
