Mac's post kind of reminded me of this old valuable tip on how to keep your helmet smell fresh. You will simply use an inexpensive baking soda. This was a tip I got from PATAT way way back in the ye old times when the forums was young... I tried to search for it but I can't find it anymore. So, I thought of sharing it with you guys again.

Keeping Helmet smell away--
I have tried in the past all sorts of things, the vilest being spraing the helmet liner with Lysol.
Soap kind of works but leaves a waxy deposit.
What I do is to use baking soda.
Wach liner by giving it a sponge bath with a mild solution of baking soda and water. Once clean-- no more grey goop getting absorbed by the sponge, go over the liner with a very very strong solution of baking soda and water and do not sponge off the excess. Dry in front of and electric fan. The baking soda will show itself as white powder on the helmet liner.

1. Baking soda is a mild cleaning agent that was popular in the past for general household use.
2. Baking soda is a known deodorant usually used in closets and refrigerators
3. Baking soda is a popular ingreedient in skin tonics and is known to be good for the skin.

Therefore a residue of baking soda in the helmet after cleaning and electric fan drying gives:
Deodorizing Action
Additional Cleaning Action
some benefits to the facial skin

Because of the above, I only need to clean my helmet maybe once in 6 weeks (and I ride daily)-- the helmet only begins to smell past the 2 month mark!

baking soda is good. I also wear a balaclava and stuff the helmet with crumpled newspaper after use. It also helps if you have several helmets and alternate using them.

Has anyone here tried the MotoSpray? Medyo okay din sya at hassle-free. You can still do the baking soda trick once in a while na lang.:)

then patuyuin,,

i remember posting a reply on a similar thread before...

just a reminder though when it comes to drying the helmet....avoid heated air...it will affect the condition of the styro liner, making it brittle...

remember the styro liner will absorb the impact between the helmets outer liner and your head should it hit the ground with your head in it....

thanks... :)

Proud to say I never had a smelly helmet :D

Wash the liner at regular intervals before it even smells.

For me that's the secret.

Pag hinintay mo mangamoy bago linisin, that's when the problem starts

baking soda is gawgaw (spank me if im wrong :O)

@ Sir bonnadictus

Baking soda has good deodorizing and cleaning properties nga po. I even use baking soda and water to wash vegetables na mahirap hugasan (ex. brocolli at cauliflower).
