View Full Version : Dress Code for Riders?

Cops wear bullet proof vests while on patrol. Special forces wear camouflage at work, so on and so forth.... can they choose to do otherwise if they chose to? What will happen?

Riders wear (or does not want to wear) all sorts of things. Should we really care about them? Why?

What should they wear? What they shouldn't wear? Should there be a dress code? Or it's just another infringement of our freedom. Helmet, anyone?

Well, all I can say is that I cannot impose on someone what to wear because I hate it myself when a dress code is imposed. Even telling myself to wear that helmet every freaking time I ride could really be irritating - specially to someone like me not really used on wearing one.

I wear my helmet, mesh jacket w/ some kind of protective pads (arms, shoulders and back), long pants, ankle high shoes (still have to get those boots to protect my feet) every time i ride - whether it will be a long one or a quick one just on the other side of the street. That's for me...for my safety.

I'm reminded of a lab teacher reminding his/her students on wearing protective goggles: "there's only one in one million who will have an accident in this lab that will affect your eyes - so, if you don't like wearing those safety goggles, it's up to you. I wouldn't want to be the one in that one million...do you?"

Some people here in MCP told me it's for my safety. I listened to them and it didn't harm me a bit. I've seen them with their safety gears on...seen some accidents...

It's all up to you - how you value yourself and how you define freedom. I still feel the breeze when I ride - feeling that freedom...

 to you!

Since we dont live in a Dictatorship, we should have the freedom to wear what we want. If we go to Airforce 1 and not wear a condom, we should be able to choose and take a risk of not wearing safety gear. :O

Yep dress code sucks! Just like wearing khaki and white shirt or below the knees pleated skirts for females at most schools in Manila. "Freedom on 2 wheels" does not encourage you to be suicidal! Remember the idiots on the road and don't argue with them cause people watching might not be able to distinguish who the idiot is! Wear your safety gear when you're saddled up on your bike, ALWAYS!.. If you're concerned that people will not recognize you on your "awesome cool looking bike" with all the safety gear masking your pretty face, listen up! your helmet will keep you looking pretty if you hit the hot sizzling blacktop. Just my .02 thought..ride safe ya'll!!!!

case scenario: a man of indian ancestry (from India) claimed that the helmet law is unconstitutional. it violated his right to practice religion because his religion requires him to wear turban all the time on his head (even when he's riding). with the passing of the helmet law, should he stop riding his bike or stop practicing his religion?

Dude,
i agree with pilak, rage, iszlandsnow and chrisjo. its is s matter of principles.. Doing what you belive, what you know, what youve learned, and what you want... thats freedom for me... if some1 having a conflict between religion and such law, he had always a freedom to choose what he belives. if he chosed his religion, he aquired his freedom by doing what belives that he will be blessed by his god, but when police caught him obeying the law, he should respect it, for the one who caught him also having its own freedom as like what he did. But if he chosed to obey law and thinks that his god will permit what he've decided, thats also freedom...

like i said, it is a matter of principle. How you look at things.. and how you will reacted with them.

for me, i always wear my helmet, even just a few block or steps.. it is my choice to be safe at any time!!

just chill bro!!

Yup, wear gloves... So that even after a crash, you can still use your hands to do stuff that you usually do :O

Wear balaclava... So that if and when you crash, you still have your dignity to walk up straight (because you won't be recognized... Just your bike) :O

Wear riding jackets... So that you can still look pogi even in an event of a crash! :D

Wear Knee pads... So that you'll still be able to use your legs if you get busted by the misis because hindi siya backride mo! You can still run like hell!

Wear leather (or any material) T-back... So that if you decide on doing the "tour-of-the-Philippine-Isalnds" you'll still get home rash free! :D

And most of all keep a saddlebag/tankbag filled with extra clothing... Just in case you get caught because of the "backride" affair and the misis decides to make you sleep out of the house! :argue:

Kidding aside, gearing up is a personal choice... Ride safe! :punk:

As much as most of us hate to be told what to do or what to wear, some of us are also slaves to fashion. Riding to Sturgis this month and seeing all the Harley riders in their blue jeans, black leather and skull caps for helmets, only reinforces the thought. Our type of riding also determines the kind of gear to wear. Can you imagine riding a Fat Boy wearing full race leathers and full face helmet? How about wearing motocross gear while astride a Yamaha R1? For those who want to maintain their individuality, the challenge is to find the gear that keeps them from looking like everybody else, but still fit in the crowd.

Chrisjo hits the nail on the head. If ever there is a dress code for us bikers, it is dictated by safety, due to the risks associated with our sport.

if he really want to ride at the same time practicing his religion,,i guess he has to wrap around the turban over his helmet,,,that way he not only ride his bike and practice his religion but add another cushion to his head,,now thats safety,,,everybody happy...... :D

Before Magellan died on the Island of Mactan, He forgot one thing. To wear his Breastplates metal collar.

Before Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan, There was one thing he never forgot. To have a razor sharp bolo with him always.

For me helmet is like my motorcycle key, can't drive my bike without it!!!

Last week i felt guilty! i'm dressing up my bikes, spending thousands pesos on accesories, but spending as little as i can spend on my safety gear. so what i did last week is, i went to buy 3 hjc helmet (2 for me ane one for my wife), bought 2 armoured riding jackets for me and her, knee protector i already have, now i need a riding boots. call this extreme gastos? well, i called it cheap insurance!!! some riders when they see fellow riders in full riding gear, they think it overacting! well, for me i call them guys smart, very smart!

Ok lang ba naka fullface or half face with visor?

yun nga eh. ang dami jan mag momotor nang walang protective gear, tapos pag namatay sila sa aksidente buong motorcycle community ang napapasama.

it's not a dress code imposed by bikers, it is actually a natural law imposed due to self preservation.

when we ride our big bikes for a long trip out of town i always wear full protection (leather suit, boots, gloves, helmet). they say it's overkill but what do they want me to do? stare at it inside my room? this is one of the reasons i bought it, when i get a new sportbike i'm sure as hell am going to wear it, after all i spent my savings on it & the attention i get is so very worth the investment.

sportbikes + full leather suit, boots, gloves & helmet = COOL

For me, I do not find it maangas :) pag nakakakita ako ng naka full gear, mapa sport bike man o scoot, bagkus ako'y napapa "whoooaaa!!" pag naman kakarampot na safety gear ang nakita ko, pero saksakan naman ng accessories ang motor, ako'y napapa "bahala ka nga sa buhay mo!" :D

Ride safe guys!

a rider told me that he doesn't need to wear safety jacket, knee guard, and other gears because he's only riding a cub and it's somewhat overkill (daw).
I told him that all bikes are capable of reaching at least 80kph, the only difference is the acceleration time. 80kph can do a lot of damage if it doesn't kill you, so gear up! (I'm not sure if wat i told him is correct, just my humble opinion)

ako... naka komine na riding jacket (medyo sporty) kahit na cruiser ride ko. who cares if baduy! basta i feel safer... ok na yun!

next project: komine triple-knee guard! :punk:
