The military and special government forces use nightvision goggles when they infiltrate enemy camps at night or during extreme darkness. They can't be seen by the enemy, but they can see everything around them because of such hi-tech goggles.

I'm thinking if something like this can somehow be applied for road use in the future. If so it would significantly reduce danger on the road at night because bikers will clearly be able to see everything around them, in contras to just relying on their headlights for road vision.

cool at first thought... however upon further consideration... you can easily be blinded by oncoming lights from other vehicles since those night vision goggles are very sensitive to lights.

The lights are the only worry since these things can't pick up light effectively. But if they are going to apply such for road use then I'm sure they'll do some adjusments to the technology.

Not sure how that will work with oncoming vehicles with their headlights on?

To! What will be your purpose ba on wearing night goggles when riding a bike at night??? I know Gov't special forces are using this tech for the purpose of stealth. If your idea is the same, maybe lagyan mo din ng silencer ang makina ng motor mo hehehe!!! :O

Ride safe at Mabuhay ka bro!!!

That would be a great idea, only if night vision goggles gave the user depth perception.

A quality that has relevant importance when operating a motorcycle.

night vision? just install more powerful and more efficient headlights on the bike. problem solved.

i have to agree with pulsar and spdfgtr, you use night vision only if you cannot use your headlight because you want to employ stealth, use a powerful headlight instead, say, an HID lamp.
o, wag tampo, opinion lang po ha. peace tayo :)

Yeah I understand your viewpoint. But I never said the goggles should replace the headlights on your bike. I only said that such goggles would help reduce danger on the road as the rider would no longer solely rely on the headlights of his bike for road vision.

With the headlights on, the rider can only see the road in front of him. But with additional nightvision goggles, the rider would be able to see wherever his head is pointed at. The rider would be able to glance to his left, to his right, or to his back and still see everything! Obviously something like this cannot be achieved with only the headlights.

another reason why in my opinion, it is impractical to use when riding a motorcycle is the effect of oncoming headlights to your eyes. night vision goggle(s) enhances and amplifies whatever amount of light there is and im sure the amplified lights from a headlights will be too much for our eyes.

This type of techonology is very reliable in Military Operation. I never seen any movie that uses bikes at the same time "Nightvision goggles". for me, it is better to use it w/o bike. :C

I agri,

although night vision goggles is one expensive equipment. It will not permit us from using our headlights. and the head lamp of other cage, these things are sensitive so maybe just a signal light will blind you.....

So, for now I think it's ok to use much powerfull head lamps.

Just thinking aloud

night vision goggles are to much expensive and impractical,,if ur mean purpose is to reduce danger on the road and to see clearly everything around u,,then why not just donate the money and put a streetlight instead,,the most high-tech one will cost u as high as $5,500.00 which i know u would prefer,,,imagine the hundreds of thousand motorist,,we only need 5-10 percent of them who can afford and think as impractical as u and multiply that by $5,500.00,,what do u get???you'll light up the whole town bro,,and that you'll make a better and safer place at night not only for the motorist but for the pedestrian as well,,who need a head light then??

I honestly like the idea. Headlights will still be used, however, there should be no need to use very high wattage bulbs or HIDs. Depending on the particular system, it may make use of IR lights (almost invisible to the naked eye) to augment your existing headlights.

Forget about goggles, they're too heavy and would probably kill you in a crash. A tiny camera that's sensitive to IR can be built into your helmet and use a HUD system to project a partial "boosted" image on your visor.

Glare from oncomming traffic is no problem. Properly calibrated IR cameras can only see the IR spectrum and almost none of the visible light.

There's nothing new with this idea. It's already found use on the more expensive cars like the Cadillac. See Demo (http://www.cadillaceurope.com/english/news_events/desig_techn/night/en_xx_clip.htm)

The cost of owning one is still prohibitive, but give it several more years and good 'ol healthy competition could catch on.

Donate money for streetlights?? Have you no idea that the streetlights over the metro are slowly winding due to theft?? Squatters steal lights and even manhole covers from the streets all the time.
